Thread: Top 5 responses from SOE

1. Spices: Remember this was written when spices where incaping everyone. They said they would take a look at the problem and they have spices dont incap everyone.
2. Underworld needs help: This is a major issues and the devs have agreed. They have said that it will get a serious looking at.
3. Content: they agree with this as well. They also realize that its a tall order to fill but hope to be able to do something about it.
4. Master Smuggler upgrade: They need a little more time to get all there eggs in a row before they can make any judgements on this one.
5. Improve slicing, make it more of a skill then just upgrading weapons and armor. I.E. let us slice more things. I.E. Travel terminals, possible wehicles and or packs for secret smuggler compartments, That kind of thing. They need a little more time for this one as well.
Now remember guys this is a top 5 list not a bug report. I have reported all the major bugs that I know of thanks to you guys, Things like slicing locking up and feign death locking up.
This is just a perliminary response we should hear more in the future.
P.S. lets keep the ideas coming on content and anything else you can think of just remember it needs to be balanced and fit with in the game system.
Wow, what a phenomenal nothing of an answer.
There is some historical precedence for it, though.
Here's what we heard from Blair the Dev on August 26, 2003:
Smuggler
We are going to look at and probably revise the Underworld skill set.
We'll fix bugs with slicing 4.
Spices will get experimentation values (for withdrawals, etc).
Feign death causing the player to take too much damage and to be unusable when moving will be fixed.
We'll add more stuff to the master box. (Probably additional slicing features)
The bug with not being able to eat spice will be fixed.

So the Devs are apparently still pondering when to begin considering to commence developing an attack plan for the major issues we raised last Summer - those major issues being Underworld, Spice, the Master box, and overall content.
Seriously, we got our preliminary response four full months ago. This should be time to tell us a bit about the direction we're going, not justgive us a "roger, we got the e-mail." This new top five is yet another confirmation that the Devs have receivedour issues . . . issues which we submitted months ago. I hate to sound like a cynic, but holding out hope for the future when it's clear that our repeated suggestions have gone nowhere seems like a waste of our good intentions.
I'm not sure what else we can do in terms of ideas - we've plowed the same fields so much that there's not much left to discuss, and I'd hate to give any new Smugglers the illusion that their feedback is going to be used in any way at all.
As for me, I'm going to be in cut-and paste-mode from here on out when it comes to feedback. The ideas I have are the exact same ideas I presented four months ago when we were brainstorming. I'm here to help, but I'm creatively demoralized.
Anyway, the bottom line is that this is a lame update that breaks no new ground and which should be an embarassment to the Devs.
electricnomad...
did you happen to read the responses I got from TH today and pasted in the Smuggler disclosure thread?
He kept saying "Tell San." "Tell San."...
Well...we tell San the same thing every time he asks for ideas. And THIS is what we get from the devs in response...
*frustrated*
San, that wasn't meant against you bro...I know you're as frustrated as we are. I'm just convinced that the devs don't have a clue what to do with our "hybrid" profession.
I know this doesnt seem like much but things are looking up.
Do you really expect them to let the cat out of the bag?
They are trying to let us know that they understand our concernsbut they arnt going to tell us what they have planned thats just not what companies do. I was frustrated with the response but the truth is at least we know that they know what we think.
I really hope you're right Santsu but going on experience with their past track record concerning smugglers I have to be a pessimist at best on this.
We aren't broken and work pretty well which most of us can agree on. But there is always going to be opinions on WHAT we are. It comes down to I don't think the devs no what to do with us period. That's my only explanation for their responses since they won't give us their own.
I believe we were a profession thrown together for release with limited thought which is probably why our stuff works. I really hope they truly want to take the time and really do an indepth rework of our profession and not that it's something they say to get us to leave them alone again for awhile.
And until I see something tangible due to their past record with us, I'm not going to believe anything from them until I see it first hand in the patch notes, in my skill trees, and in action. But hey I'm a diehard so I'll hang around some more and see what happens.
I am a die hard as well and will keep working to get us heard. I keep on keeping on becuase I love being a smuggler and I hope that in the long run all of this will pay off. Until then I will enjoy what I have and continue to voice our wants and needs.
Well GreenMarine who is supposedly our Dev is also the Chef Dev so don't expect anything for the Smuggler until the Chef is fixed which will probably be January or Feb. - then he can work on someone else before he starts us. We just don't squeak enough - I'm convinced of that. We complain amongst ouselves and we are the only ones listening.
We need THX and then maybe the world will listen.
As I said before it will be a long winter.....but spring has hope eternal.
"But hey least the community is great and this profession board isn't full of the crybabies you see in some of the others (won't name any lol). "
