I'm usually one of the first to scold the red names ... but I really don't think there has been an announcement about the Combat Upgrade that is anti-smuggler.
We've known for a while now that Combat Upgrade was going to happen first. We had hoped that GM would at least start talks with us after JTL, but we've known that our revamp would not be until after Combat Upgrade at any rate.
TH has said that theprofession revamps would follow the Combat Upgrade and beBEFORE GCW, and we have the strong belief of Caylin that this is the phase where the Smuggler revamp will fall ... and that we should be somewhere near the top of the "professions to revamp" list.
I dont thinkWescould help ourcause by jumping on red names in the Combat Upgrade thread. We need the combat upgrade (we as smugglers and we as old-school players who are BORED in the ground game). We're still on the radar and nothing so far has indicated that we've been pushed beyond our last solid information: "After Combat revamp".
Must correct you there INDY, TH stated that the non-Combat profession would be revamp to balance out the effects of the Combat Upgrade. This means that food, weapons, armor, spice, Entertainer and Doc buffs will be revamped to balance out the new combat system. This does not mean that the Smuggler Revamp will take place that we were looking forward to.
I know you are going to say he did NOT state that specifically, yes that is true, What he said was that the ONLY thing thay will discuss is the current project which is the "Combat Upgrade" after the upgrade the GCW is a natural follow on and an extension of the Upgrade.
What will happen is that there will be different dirty fighting skills which others can dabble in, our spices will be balanced to food and buffs, and slicing will be balance too.
Therefore, a real Revamp will NEVER take place unless we push for it NOW!!!
BTW -- Seeing how GM balanced ship parts in JTL, I expect to see slicing work the same way. Probably you can get a damage slice at the cost of speedor a speed slice at the cost of damage. That way the combat balance will remain unaffected.

Maybe some clearer statements or announcements would help us in a better understanding.
This is the perfect example of a what i said, the way they turn their announcement, we can think one way or the other.
Being subject to interpretations in such opposite ways leads the community to eitherfalse hope or eagerness.

I mean every correspodnant seem to bring answers or to QFE some points about issues or questions. I didn't see any intervention from any of my correspondants, that is Ryutek, LordMaxx and you.
That leads me to two different ways of thinking :
1. you're so upset with what is announced that your courage has already flown away (which i can't believe)
2. you have some infos that makes you feel you don't need to post there since WE smugglers have no reason to worry (which i would badly want to believe).
On a side note, i have the feeling that most correspondants are "defending" the devs on the ambiguities raised. I can easily understand the fact that being better informed helps them to have a more comprehensive of the devs point of view, but i have the feeling they are on the devs side instead of the players side. Is this the reason you stay appart? you don't want to be considered an accomplice of the anti-smuggler comspiracy?
Part of the reason I didn't chime in was simply not to swamp people with blue names. TH was sitting in on that thread answering a whole bunch of questions, including some that were Smuggler related.
I am restricted in what I can say. Believe me, I want to share everything with you in order to get your reactions and feedback, but that's just not possible right now. What I can tell you however, is as it stands, while there are some issues that need resolving, the role given to Smuggler in combat is, I think, extremely fitting to what a Smuggler in combat is all about.
Yes, I have some fears, as no doubt many correspondents do for their profession, butoverall, things look really very good. As to my activity rating, I've been settling in and getting comfortable in new surroundings and assessing what I'm doing and what needs to be done. My apologies if you wish me to be quicker on the uptake, I'll do my best to double my efforts, but I'll warn you that I do occasionally have to sleep, eat and get some air
.
As to when our revamp will be, I have no idea myself. As Caylin says, we're supposed to be on the top of the pile, so I'm hoping we'll be getting done after the CU. Having said that, things can always change (if I've learned anything over the past year or so, it's that). It's no doubt a large reason to why red names will from now on only be discussing "what's next". While it's frustrating that we don't know, I would far rather this than be told "You're next" again and again, only to find out we're not. Been there, done that andIreally didn't like it.

No problem with your activity rate Wes, i perfectly know you have a life (or hope so) and i already told you you were doing really fast on taking your position. I just got somewhat puzzled in not seeing you jumping in at the moment, now i'm a little bit reassured and i'll continue to keep hope and support you in any way you may need.
Thanks for answering by the way.
