Thread: Wes, is it normal you're not answering on the combat upgrade topic?

I mean every correspodnant seem to bring answers or to QFE some points about issues or questions. I didn't see any intervention from any of my correspondants, that is Ryutek, LordMaxx and you.

That leads me to two different ways of thinking :

1. you're so upset with what is announced that your courage has already flown away (which i can't believe)

2. you have some infos that makes you feel you don't need to post there since WE smugglers have no reason to worry (which i would badly want to believe).

On a side note, i have the feeling that most correspondants are "defending" the devs on the ambiguities raised. I can easily understand the fact that being better informed helps them to have a more comprehensive of the devs point of view, but i have the feeling they are on the devs side instead of the players side. Is this the reason you stay appart? you don't want to be considered an accomplice of the anti-smuggler comspiracy?

Geez, take it easy on the guy, its only been what, four days? Try to think of how much work a correspondant actually has to do and then think about what you said, maybe you'll realize how your post shouldn't have been posted

I don't want to be accressive here about him or meaning he's not around or anything like that, and i do imagine he's rather busy with his new position (in fact i fear i'm from truth) but i feel this is a major concern for all of us.

We do need some clarifications and he does need to show the devs that being the noob on the C-forum doesn't make him voiceless. I don't intend to charge himin any way, i just felt it would be a good place for him to express our fears about the revamp being once more delayed to the day after the earth explodes. As now we don't really know if the non-combat publishes after the CU will include our revamp or just some adjustements to make the smugglers fit in the grand scheme of the CU.

I'm sorry if any of you felt i was rude or aggressive towards Wes, i do have much respect for him and didn't intend to be any aggressive.

I'm usually one of the first to scold the red names ... but I really don't think there has been an announcement about the Combat Upgrade that is anti-smuggler.

We've known for a while now that Combat Upgrade was going to happen first. We had hoped that GM would at least start talks with us after JTL, but we've known that our revamp would not be until after Combat Upgrade at any rate.

TH has said that theprofession revamps would follow the Combat Upgrade and beBEFORE GCW, and we have the strong belief of Caylin that this is the phase where the Smuggler revamp will fall ... and that we should be somewhere near the top of the "professions to revamp" list.

I dont thinkWescould help ourcause by jumping on red names in the Combat Upgrade thread. We need the combat upgrade (we as smugglers and we as old-school players who are BORED in the ground game). We're still on the radar and nothing so far has indicated that we've been pushed beyond our last solid information: "After Combat revamp".

Not appearing as voiceless is good, but so is having time to read up and get up to speed before expressing an opinion.

As correspondent, he can't afford to be careless when he express an opinion, peoples will take almost everything he say as the "official stand of the Smuggler Correspondent".

There is a ballance to be reached between posting recklessly and being too shy, but I am sure he will find that ballance, let's just give him some time to settle in. Not like the Combat Upgrade will go live tomorow, alpha testing is not started yet.

As for the correspondents attitude on that combat upgrade thread, when you say "I can easily understand the fact that being better informed helps them to have a more comprehensive of the devs point of view", I think you hit the nail on the head. I have seen several correspondants publicly disagree with a dev before, so I do not think it is a matter of "side" here, but just of being better informed than we are and actually liking the way the Combat Upgrade is going.

Just my humble 2 creds, not meant to jump on everyone.

What bothers me is we only have a strong belief, from what i read we know for sure there will be some publishes after combat upgrade and before GCW revamp, what we don't know is if these publishes will happen to be the so long promised revamps (smugglers, SL, rangers ...) or if they will make some tweaks to go with the combat upgrade, then do the GCW revamp and after that make the true revamp we are all waiting for. I, among others, would like to have a statement that things are going to be on a way or the other. We have had enough broken promises, if the revamp is not scheduled yet, if GM has been reassigned somewhere else, i think we should at least know it. We just can't wait for GM to show as if he was the messiah.

I don't mean to be combative, really, but I think they've been pretty clear.

TH explains many of the items that are included in the Combat Upgrade (CU)

TH wrote:

The Combat Upgrade is our overall effort to improve our player combat experience, including:

  • Combat Balance - tuning all our numbers and the combat professions.

  • Core Combat Changes - HAM improvements, Incapacitation & Death changes, Armor and more.

  • Combat Additions - more special moves, new counter moves, new armors, new weapons and new crafting options.

TH adds some details to what is considered in scope for the CU:

TH wrote:

  • All weapons will be brought to within a balance, though if you had an item that was really good, it will still be really good, just not "off the scale".

  • Combat Medic and Doc are included. Buffs will be addressed, but in a "rock, paper, scissors" sort of way.

  • With the skill re-allocation, you will keep the same number of skill points and changing the costs of professions isn't planned.

  • Once the Combat Upgrade, you will still be able to keep whatever professions you had before. You will also get one chance to re-allocate your points if you find something more appealing.

TH further says that the scope of the CU is NOT intended to be the revamp we all want ... and that the smuggler revamp is still coming.

(i.e. Don't worry, the DEVs aren't going to consider the fixes from CU sufficient for the Smuggler revamp)

TH wrote: No. This is not a profession revamp - this is an upgrade to the combat system. All the combat professions will be involved and this will be a great thing for those professions, but for Squad Leaders, Smugglers, Rangers, ETC, your revamps are still going to happen. We just arent going to talk about them until they are on deck.

SOETyrant explains that while we do have to wait until the end of CU, what follows (in an unannounced schedule) will be the profession revamps ... they are a completely different projects.

SOETyrant wrote:

And unfortunately non-combat professions will need to wait for this to be complete, since the context of the final Conbat Upgrade will be what sets our bar for the other profession revamps.

SOETyrant further explains that what follows the CU is profession revamps, and that the CU must be in place/complete to provide the basis needed to revamp professions. He further states that they want the professions to be "solid"(thus a meaningful profession revamp must happen) prior to the GCW revamp.

SOETyrant wrote: Combat Upgrade is the basis we need in place before revamping the other professions. And we need all the professions to be solid to build a complete and compelling GCW, because it will affect everyone. We will do all this as quickly as we know how, but it will be high quality first and foremost.

We've known for quite a while now that our revamp would follow the combat balance (this isn't new). It seems to me they are still sticking to that plan. The only thing that is different is that they are no longer publishing timelines (which is good...they jsut piss people off anyhow).

Its:

Combat Upgrade >> Professions Revamps (smuggler somewhere in here) >> GCW Revamp

Further, in response to TH's statement of:

TH wrote:

Once Combat Upgrade is done, we will immediately work on upgrading all the non-combat professions in another series of publishes.Once all the professions have been through the upgrade process we will focus on expanding and enhancing the Galactic Civil War.Our promise to our players is that Star Wars Galaxies will become an even more amazing experience each month, truly a place to "live the saga" that is Star Wars Galaxies.

Smuggler_Cayin states that his understanding is that the highlighted portion is talking about the time period where The Smuggler Revamp will occur.

Smuggler_Caylin wrote: That's us last I heard and we were on the top of the pile.

We need CU ...once that's done (and the core of the game is working as it's going to for the foreseeable future), THEN and ONLY THEN we can get a meaningful profession revamp.

Well put in ths way it appears a little bit clearer, i thought i had read everysingle post of this topic, but i somehow must have missed this one, which state they do speak of revamps and not only publishes to fix non combat classes accordingly to the CE.

sorry to have raised an issue that in fact doesn't seem to exist

Nice and clear, IndySWG. You know, there are so many "we are being screwed" , "we are being shafted again", "revamp put off again" etc threads lately that maybe you should start your own thread with that post and ask our correspondent to sticky it.

(btw Kgmkiorys , my suggestion is NOT meant as a flame, I just think a lot of peoples have the same interogations you had, and that infos could help calm some fears. )

This still does NOT alleviate my concerns over the Combat Upgrade:

1) Dirty Fighting line -- Will NOT be changed after they are Combat balance.

2) Spice Line -- WE may get some new spices, however they will be based on what happens during the balance.

3) Slicing line -- We may get additional things to slice, However, what we havewill be combat balanced. I expect, based soley on JTL beta experience, that we will be able to increase weapon Damage at the cost o weapon Speed or Speed at the cost of Damage. Armor, similar tradeoffs.

4) The underworld line -- GCW based and fixed around this
