Hown can anyone steal and get away with it? Wouldn't someone report you on the spot? That's why I don't get how there can be dishonest smugglers.

We're the most trusted profession in the game. Ironic huh?

I don't find it ironic, I actually find it rather close to the elusive thing called "real life". If you were to have a smuggler move something illegal, you'd have to trust him/her with your, most likely valuable, goods, you have to trust someone who does illegal actions, and chances are you'd do this based on recommendation or street reputation. I don't see it any different than taking a car to the shop, having it fixed and you trusting the mechanic the things fixed were actually broken. Yes, car inclined people wouldn't do that, but someone with 10 thumbs like myself would have to

"At that point, I just suck up the 4k "loss" and stick the item on the nearest bazaar for 6k. One way or the other I'll get SOME kind of payment for it."

Even better, put it on your own vendor for 3 x the sum he/she refuses to pay and tell them right where it is.

Oh I just got a great idea, I am going to put up a new vendor named "Repo man".....I will put all the things like this there!

LOL - that's awesome MrSensitive!

I can picture it now, the Repo Man and the back of a house, the mark has to walk thorugh a corridor of empty merchants with ad bark enabled shouting "SHAME" to get to the RepoMan who berates them some more.

Bravo! :>

Picture this...

A small meek pistoleer steps into a crowded cantina. She takes in the scene, and carefully notes the lack of any imperial presence in the place. Through the smoke and commotion, she sees what she is looking for... a big burly smuggler, having a beer at a table in the far back, engaged in some sort of disagreement with another party. She approaches cautiously, taking in the scene. Should she do it? Can this guy be trusted? Will she ever emerge from this place if she follows through with what she is about to do? She pulls the hood on her cloakover her head, trying not to attract attention, and casually wanders over to the smuggler's table, keeping her head down the entire way. She bends over him, whispers something in his ear, and thrusts her most prized possession, a very special pistol wrapped in a hide to conceal it, into the smuggler's chest in a casual movement. The smuggler takes note of the fine workmanship on the pistol, brings it up into his hand to test the balance, and ...

You see, this is what I think is missing from the smuggler profession. Seriously. Where is the sense of danger? of intrigue? or the sense that you are doing something that is really outside the bounds of the law? The scene I describe above could end in a number of ways, and that's what makes it interesting, but not in SWG. In SWG, it always ends the same way:

"I got a 20% slice, that will be 2k plz"

/tip 2k

/trade pistol back to customer

"why thank you for the excellent service, I'll be sure to tell all my friends about you"

"thx, np".

Oh, and of course, in SWG the whole scene wouldn't have taken place in a cantina, it would have take place outside a starport, with a:

/yell MASTER SMUGGLER SLICING, ONLY 2k/slice PST!

blah, call me crazy, but the game would be a lot better off for immersion-sake if smugglers at least occasionally, actually acted like scoundrals.

If you don't tell them the price till after the slice, you should not stick it on a vendor for 6k, that is basically stealing.. however if you tell them before slicing, and they know full well that they don't have the money, that's fine. But still, I would never do that. I would just ask them to go do a mission and then pay me.

yep this game would be so much better if professions actually seemed to have some affect outside of skills like that ^^
