Thread: Smuggling fraud, the policy change, and UI request!

They need to make it so the client has to pay before the slice. Otherwise one could not pay unless they get a perfect slice.
Yep we for sure need some sort of ID type of trade window, oh and dont steal stuff, my job is hard enough!

So who else read the TOS policy changes recently? ...no really?
Advertising (or even offering) to slice someone's gear, then just taking it for yourself, is considered fraud. Yes yes, all well and good I'm fine by that- really, the defrauded person would be well within rights to try and put a laser bolt between your eyes, but of course that becomes a PvP system issue. - Good, Im sorry but people trust us with equipment to slice and the few who steal it ruin it for the rest of us.
I hadn't had a chance to do this, butI had resolved that if an Imperial wanted my slicing services, I was going to keep their weapon for the Rebel Alliance. Yes, a bit shady in the realm of exploiting that they couldn't shoot me for it. The other thing that I guess had some people worried was that the CDEF pistol in the locked container was slipped in by the smuggler, who maybe took a holocron or force crystal. - I hate this, its hard enough. Why do people think because your a smuggler its ok to steal from a client, not cool, not cool at all.
But, with the policy change making it officially a RL BadThing(tm), I figure this is a good point to make a request of the devs! (Probably asked for before, but who am I to do my research and not dupe a thread topic?)
Image Designers got an interface so that they could be paid for their services- something they previously didn't have. Could we smugglers get a similar interface, since we are trading in a 'service' rather than goods?
Said interface would need to look like the secure trade window: - agree with you 100%
- Space for the goods to be sliced, and to look at the stats of the item. Since the smuggler side of the trade window isn't stat-important, maybe it could have before/after stats?
- Space for the smuggler's tools to be used: Precision Laser Knife, optional upgrade kits, flow analyzers, molecular clamps. (For the sake of a fair, honest trade in services, this is "keeping all cards on the table.")
- Credits for the slice in two parts which once both parties agree to will have to be held in escrow: first, non-refundable advance funds, and second, refundable amount for a successful slice (remember: clamps may not be involved!).
So the scenario would be: parties place items in the 'trade window' boxes, set the prices and click 'agree'. The slicer selects an item and clicks 'slice' and thus goes to work on an item (advance funds are paid).Once the outcome of the slice is known, the other funds transfer. Both fees should be able to have a checkbox for 'per sliced item', and the second fee should have a checkbox for 'per percent of slice' (for those who don't charge a flat fee).
Then, the customer gets their sliced goods or unlocked container (which never left their posession nor could even be peeked into by the slicer), and the slicer gets their fee. And everything is honest, fraud-risk-free.

Slicing is random, you as a Master Smuggler have absolutly NO control over the quality of the slice. Stop telling people the actual number...I promise you wont regret it.
I started my slicing career doing it like this, but I pissed off some good customers. Now, I always tell them. I've never had complaints since then. I've also never had someone nervous that I'll run with their gear. And there have been times when I get a little bug that makes me autorun while trading. Talk about suspicious! I fix the bug (I get it so often I've learned how to counter it) and immedeately run back to the customer. Then I tell 'em what happened. We have a good laugh, and I finish the job.
I don't advertise other than putting my master smuggler tags up. The customers come to me. If they were afraid that I'd steal their stuff, why are they contacting me for a slice? Only once have I had a no-pay customer. Since then I won't trade back until I have the money either in my bank or in the trade window. I run a very simple flat-fee-based deal and I'mhonest with all my customers,so slicing is simple and fun. No worries for me.
Kibbypoo, it is what most of us do, me included, but we still get the occasional "you wil steal my stuff!" paranoid client. And now every time we keep an item for non payement we have to be ready to defend that decision, in case the client report us.
You can be sure some will yell at us "You can'T do that, saw the new policy?? I will report you!" (often in less good English but I am not good at typing lewt typing hehe)
A good CSR of course would look up the logs, see the weapon have been sliced but not paid for, and the report will go down the drain. But it become enough of a judgment call on CSR's part to make me nervous. I would hate to see honest yet unwilling to be screwed Smugglers be griefed by that policy.
If it was a problem enough to warrent a change in the policy, I think fixing the problem with a secure window is better than threatening us with a report stick.
