Thread: It's Official, CU Goes Live This Week

I'm just worried about the number of specials that are said to be broken. I haven't had a chance to test since the first couple days, so I'm really not sure what the status of all that is.
I am looking forward to getting this respec done. I'm guessing that that's the main reason they want to push to live. So everyone's templates can be somewhat solid for the RotW as well as the fact that they don't want any server crashes because of the CU on the same day they release an expansion they're hoping will bring new Star Wars fans to the game.

Yes indeed, Fishbrains. Thems would be the words.
I think they are doing this well in advance of what they anticipate will be a huge influx of new players. They want to get all the screaming of the veterans done with (not to mention catch as many BUGS as possible in what is now a huge, involuntary beta) before ROTW is released.
Just think of the tens of thousands who don't read the boards and have NO idea what this "Upgrade" is. It's not an upgrade; it is a CORE CHANGE. It touches (and not gently) every aspect of the game that they have been playing for two years, and not, in my opinion, for the better.
Jesus, think of it -- the "conversions" of people's possessions for which they worked so hard (well, some of them, anyway), the complete changes in resources and/or effectiveness regarding the crafting of foods, meds, armor and weapons. Millions of credits that people will feel have been taken from them.
The Entertainer profession has been gutted.
The fact that COMBAT PROFESSIONS ALONE determine a user's all-important "LEVEL" and thus their ability to move about, to hunt and harvest -- to PLAY, really. If you are not a double elitecombat prof good luck to ya.
Not to mention that ALL that matters in combat seems to be your "level" -- it's so drastically over-simplified and god-awful SLOW (as of Saturday night, anyway)... I am a level 80 and it took me ten minutes to kill a level 60 critter. It took me 5 minutes to kill a level 38 critter and it incapped me.
The particle effects drastically reduce performance on slower machines. Just imagine on Live what the effect will be in a group of 8 using Specials. Even high end machines will be affected.
And we know how bugged it is on Test Center... man this is gonna be... well: What you said.
It really does make sense... get all the CU stuff and downtime & a crash hotfix (if crashers are found) out of the way so people buying the new box can load it and get online right away and play.

Seriously, what's with the surprise, I've been saying that the CU was going live before ROTW since they announced CU was hitting TC.
I personally have a LOT of questions unanswered about CU bugs/conversion issues (I really think another 3 or 4 days of constant new conversions would be needed before anyone could feel good about the output), and there are bugs like the Ship weapon ones or specials that could be fixed but as a player i just don't know, and that's the kind of thign that I worry about. As such I would have loved to see thigns get worked on until the end of the week.

All of the game design issues, well, they were lost causes almost the minute they hit a test server.
End result, medicore level of bad for the first round of conversion servers in terms of bugginess, game play good vs. bad is an open and more personal thing.

Wow, I didn't even think of that. We are yet again going Live as an unfinished profession. This is the Second time now. wow...
