if guild-wh0re-smuggler pays 100k for a component and then only charges 10k he is at a loss of 90k. Im not saying it cost 900k, I am saying that If the community thinks they are going to gouge smugglers of parts we need to slice.. then the cost of a slice is going to be (totalPriceofComponents) * 5.

You'll want to charge x5, I'll do it for x4. Then the guy down the block with do it for x2. Then it'll go back to guild smugglers doing it for x1 (cost of the mats). You can't charge arbitrary profit-margins and not expect someone to undercut you.

but likewise you cant expect to stick it to the public and not take it in the a.ss eventually too. Take it from a weaponsmith thats been one since game launch. Everytime they try to stick it to the WS for components it only comes back on the public later. This is why things like de-10 had obsurd prices and why even when guilds got them it was still unlikely to be given to guildmates, greed set in and the high price tags flew. Nobody is just going to roll over and let someone screw them repeatedly. You may think that eventually undercutting sets in but its not like we NEED to slice, they need us more than we need them. I am pretty sure that smugglers are more intelligent than the architect community. That was the only profession stupid enough to bid-war themselves into poverty. Hell im not even a public smuggler, Im more of the 'guild wh0re' you spoke of earlier and I can promise you that gougers will meet with fierce recompense. So again you missed my _entire_ point. My point isnt smugglers are gearing up to gouge.. my point is 'dont screw us and we wont screw you because what comes around goes around'. Its that simple.. spread the love, spread the karma, do unto others, show brotherly love and all that other happy hippy stuff.

Well... yeah, that was pretty much what happened. 
I did my best to try to bring prices back up but then the global vendor search pretty much killed my efforts.
Wait.. was this the forum where people were constantly bitching about smugglers driving prices down to 1.5k and oblivion? Or was that another smuggler forum? 
It's a little tricky with Weaponsmiths. I remember bringing a barrel,schem &tissues to a WS, and he whipped me upa DE-10for free. Pretty nice from a perfect stranger, but I sure didn't see him charging me high prices because someone else was "gouging." I expect that this will be similar with us. If someone shows up with the mats and a smile, but doesn't like our prices, they'll go to any number of other smugglers with identical ability. So there's no stabilizing element to slice prices.
I'm a Guild-Wh0re-01 too.. don't get me wrong. I'll probably contribute to the inevitable decline of slicing rates too. If my friends need a slice and have the mats, I'll probably do it for free. I expect that virtually every other player on every server has a few smuggler friends/associates as well.
Now, where I *do* agree with you is that if someone wants to screw me on slicing materials, best of luck to 'em. I don't *have* to slice for anyone, and I should have enough mats from the conversion to last myself.. well, a little while. But I'll do 'em one more, and not be willing to slice for 'em at all. I don't care if I could make x2, x5, x27 what they're charging for mats, I won't help them.
But someone else will. It won't take 'em long to find a friend that'll do it for next to nothing. So unless they're miserably alone, they probably won't be seeing many comeuppances.
Then again.. most of the price-gougers will probably be jedi. Who don't need slices at all!

You're going to charge 6k for level 4 components? I just converted 200 WUKs and got exactly 3 level 4 components...can I buy yours for 6k each?
So you're going to charge 2k for "repairs"??? What exactly is breaking that needs repairs?
I just spent 2.5 hours hunting krayts to get 3 loot drops.
6K? Dude, you need to lay off the spice.
I have an idea...how about not paying for any of this stuff. That'll keep the market tight.
