You'll find that a lot of us old smugglers are very jaded, cynical and sarcastic on these forums. Its because of the broken promises the devs have been giving us since day 1 and we've still not seen any results. Read through the forums, you'll get the picture.

While you are grinding your pistol XP definitely take scout and train up EXP4 and Hunting 4. Since you are on the forums hit up your galaxy trade board and generally there are Doctors, Chefs or armorsmiths looking for a particular hide or meat. Contact them, work out a deal harvesting what they need for credits, so that while you are working on your pistol XP you are earning credits to fund your slicing and spice grind. As well as funding your pistol and armor purchases.
Have fun

Another tip...other starting professions make your life easier when you're broke. Always be on the look out for opprotunity, until you HAVE to ditch them.
For instance, I made some good money and pistol/unarmed xp getting hides for armorsmiths when something specific came up. They'll pay up to, no lie, 100 credits per unit of some hides. It's insane. Medic can be infinitely valuable when you don't have the money for buffs and healing. Just heal yourself. When you DO grind spice, be your own best customer for buffs until you've got enough to start blowing on doc's.
