Thread: Protesters Listen

DigiDante's got a point guys. In-game protests and "feign-ins" are going to accomplish nothing. There's not a single skill that you possess that can't be replaced by something else if you cut off your Smuggler services.

Slicing Weapons: Power-ups serve the same purpose, and aren't as random as slicing...may be temporary, but are relatively cheap to replace.

Slicing Armor: Well...effectiveness slices get you a few extra points on your base percentages, which are generally pretty damned high anyway if you buy from a halfway competent AS. Encumb slices...if you're having trouble getting into your armor, that can be overcome by food or a good set of buffs from a doc, which most people will have anyway if they're going to kill things that warrant wearing armor that heavy.

Spices: Doc buffs...Chef food...need I say more?

FP Sales: Any faction farmer can use the /delegatefaction command to sell off excess faction. It may take longer without the use of the recruiter and readily available faction it provides, but the profit would justify it.

And DF is basically the 5th Pistoleer tree.

You don't provide any services that are ABSOLUTELY necessary for the playablity of the game. It's not like Weaponsmiths going on strike or something (now THAT would make the devs stand up and "WOAH!...wait a second.")

Last time I checked, our only major role in a group was to take down a base terminal...and with the GCW in its current state, I'm not even sure how useful that is at the moment.

"Well...I'm just going to drop Smuggler and go play [insert equally borked profession name here] and then come back when everything is fixed."

That's great. But what have you accomplished? You're still paying them $15 / month for a messed up product with lousy customer service and zero communication from the people who are supposed to be fixing it.

"So what do you propose?"

Simple. Take the only step that may or may not hurt SOE in the long run. Cancel. Take your $15 / month and stick it in a piggy bank, or find another game and give it to SOE's competition.

"And why are you still here?"

I'm technically not here any more. I clicked the Cancel button a few weeks ago and am just waiting for my account to expire in August. In the mean time, I still very much care for what the Smuggler profession and what this game COULD be, and will continue to keep up the fight in the hopes that, one day, the Devs will give me some reason to come back, other than the Star Wars name on the box and the vague promises that it will live up to that license.

So, to the guys who want to protest, I wish you luck. But just keep in mind the points I and others have made here and what you will accomplish, or not accomplish, with an in-game protest.

Non-smuggler putting in my two cents. i have a soft spot for smugglers (Dont know why). It seems pretty clear that the devs know exactly what they want this prof to be: A space-based profession.

I would expect alot of love post-JTL. It dosent really help you guys now but they have stated that they want to institute the 3rd faction and i would expect smuggler to play a huge role in that.

I said this in another thread somewhere ,but I will say it again. Now this is just my opinion but it makes sense to me. From the first concept of smuggler the dev team probably said "Oh sh!t ,this isn't going to work right until the space expansion" so they threw a bunch of skills in a bucket and called it smuggler so at least smuggler would be in the initial launch. After JTL and out revamp I believe smuggler will be the place to be,and we will probably see an influx of new smugglers. For better or worse it seems our hand has been delt. So lets go about things smartly, raise enough cane to keep us from being forgotten but not to much or else we might get ignored like a car alarm.(when was the last time you ran to look when the car alarm down the street went off?)

So far the squeeky wheels have gotten the grease. If we have to protest to get something done than I am all for it. I do agree, that there is no real feasible way to protest in a manner that would accomplish anything. If there was one "something" that we as smugglers could do to let the community, the devs, and the players know what kinda crap we have put up with and are expected to put up with, than I would be all for it.

I was going to post something lengthy and biting, in response to this "Stop whining and quit already" post, but then I realized...

My "whining" is ten times more constructive than this waste of text.

What do you plan on accomplishing here? Squelching the desire for a community to get response and attention that they've been missing for over a year? There comes a time when "be patient" becomes "go fly a kite".

If you're happy with the profession, go play it. Some of us are entirely dismayed with it, the developer's treatment of it, and the general lack of respect for a community of paying customers. This isn't an issue of "well, there are other important things". These other important things have taken priority since well before launch, and it's gotten ridiculous.

I'm not asking your permission to fight for the few changes some of us have begged for, for months on end. I'm also not asking for a complete revamp. I just feel we're overdue for a little attention in the interim.

I also loved how you claimed that Jedi fixes are necessary because it's "the MAJORITY of the playerbase". Since when? I can't remember seeing 130 Jedi milling around Coronet while the 2 or 3 non-FS professions hid in the woods. The majority of the playerbase have been non-FS professions for over twelve months. Jedi Eye Candy accounts are the minority here, and they don't deserve any more attention than the rest of us.

Wow this post is starting to get way off hand guys.

My original and main point was - Please lets not rally for causes that fighting will not help.

The forums like someone mentioned earlier are a place to come and DISCUSS issues and game context dealing with our specific profession.

The forum is not a place to come and try to gather people to fight for an unworthy cause.

If you have something to say about the game, do it in a constructive way.

Constructive posts spark discussion. Good discussion forms the community. Smuggler, widely, is a communal profession. More so then any other profession, smugglers have each other back in most situations.

I am not telling people to quit, I am saying dont start a troll the forums afterwrads; just say goodbye, give a reason maybe, and leave. I hate reading posts from people who were sapose to leave days, weeks, months ago.

There are alot of people crying that "Oh if they don't do this I'll quit."

My opinion, they aren't going to do it- so go ahead.

When you rally for people to quit with you, protest, or anything like that you're splitting the community.

There are us that are perfectly content as of now, frustrated yes, but we are willing to wait for our time.

Then there are those of you who are sick and tired of it and have nothing better to do then complain and express why you're upset. Want to? Do it constructively, with a cool attitude. Don't try to force your attitude on others...

Someone made comment of starting a smuggler union. Great idea, I started one on flurry over a month ago. I try to keep in contact with them and see how everyones doing. There are alot of people who have dropped smuggler until the revamp.

Just like me, they are a smuggler at heart. In my opinion, your personality makes you a smuggler. In game there is no way to actually smuggle, so technically anyone can hold an item and take it from one place to the other undetected now... Being able to slice a weapon, and make a few drugs doesn't make me a smuggler. Someone who can stich wounds isn't necessarily a doctor.

To reply to WolrdMaker2k4 directly, I believe we are due for some content and small fixes. I know we're way over due. Recently we've gotten more responces from the dev team then in the past 11 months. They have come, said their apologies and shown they are still thinking about us. They saw the community was majorly upset, they know our frustrations - Why keep being upset?

I never said the majority of the game was jedi. I said the majority of the game wouldn't mind being one. Currently it is only about 1/10 people hologrinding working on jedi, but it use to be alot worse and it screwed up the economy which I'm sure you're aware of. The heart of the game minus the GCW is the jedi ( and eventually space battle ). The heart of the game is working to be fixed prior to the first launch, space.

Oh and by the way, the game hasn't been live 12 months yet.

There are differences between picketing and rioting; besides one being legal and the other not One is a constructive way to accomplish something while showing a communal disgruntled-ness; the other is a bunch of upset people showing their anger in a manor which is destructive to the community.

I originally used the word protesting in my previous posts, but i should have labeled it rioting.
