Thread: Why smugglers make NO money selling faction

IT WAS YOU.... where is my bonking stick. LOL, had a faction buy at 125cpp. Guy waited till I had all the faction purchased and left to go buy from someone at 90 cpp. I laughed it off later and bought two spec force bases for Atlantica.
This is why I always get the credits before I purchase the faction. Gotta keep you bases covered, right

Old Smuggler rule of mine. I don't trade weapons or armor back that I've sliced until I receieve payment. I clearly state what it will cost them for everything and make sure they understand before I click slice on anything.
A quick story: I sliced a rifle fora guy back when everyone was doing 100 credits per percent increase (old system, early 2004). It came out 35% damage. He didn't want to pay 3,500 credits. I told him he wasn't going to get his gun back till he paid, one way or the other. He continued to argue. So, I just went around the corner and placed his new Krayt Laser Rifle on the bazaar at a listing of 3,520 credits (he was paying for the placement fee). Wasn't a minute later before I got the email saying it was bought by him ![]()
As for faction, I have the person meet me at a Rebel base. I have told them in advance how much it will cost them for whatever amount of faction. When they meet me, I have them tip me the money I need to purchase their faction. I use that money to buy their faction and whatever is left over is my profit.
If I expect someone to pay, I always get my money up front before any expenditures are made on my part. And I always deliver.
Oh, by the way...sorry about that whole customer ditching you thing. I do still make a tidy profit at 90cr/fp and I get plenty of customers...like I said above. Had I known you were in that situation and the person was ditching on you, I would have refused their sale and told them to get back with you. I've been in the retail trade for 4 years and I care more about keeping people happy and being honest than I do about cleaning up...cause I can clean up in other ways. I don't need to be a scammer or crook to do it. You can be a scammer, cheat, and an ass in some RP, but if you're dealing with an OOC situation like that, you should be honest, even as a Smuggler.
