Thread: ATTN Eclipse Smugglers

With the upcoming changes to smuggler, I am sure many of us are wanting to get rid of our overflow of supplies. So I had an idea. On a coming weekend, for us to decide, I thought it might be fun if all the Eclipse Master Smugglers gathered at a storehouse I have on Rori, just near Narmle, or in every major city, and just did an all day free slicing blitz.
I am sure it would promote our customer base for the coming changes, as well as help us get rid of overstock. It's also something nice to do.
Not announcing it on our home forum, just here, to get feedback from our underworld. Let me know. Thanks.

Okay, I'm confused. A week ago, you were advocating a boycott of all Slicing, or at least charging outrageous prices for Slicing. Now you are proposing giving away Slicing for free. Must be nice to have such a successful Slicing business (and such a fortune) that you can afford to be so frivilous in your business decisions.
I certainly don't have an "overflow of supplies" and I'm sure that there are a great many others on Eclipse who are in the same boat. Much like the Slicing protest concepts you proposed a week ago, you can count me out of this one as well. Why? Because my character cannot afford to make such rash decisions regarding Slicing...going to either extreme will financially hurt my character a great deal. Aside from taking destroy missions, Slicing is a primary way for some of us to earn a living. As I have said before, not every character has millionsin credits, resources and supplies lying around. Some of us struggle to make it. As a result, going along with your proposals hurt us more than they help. Sometimes I wonder if you truly realize what you are proposing, or if you are proposing things just to keep the competition at bay.
Maybe some of you "generous" Smugglers who want to give away your excess tools andresources should consider helping your fellow Smugglers by sharing those tools and resources with us before you go giving away to everyone else. If youtruly want to help, there is no need to look outside of your own communityto find plenty of opportunities.

I don't see any inconsistency in the change of tack. The boycott/price hike proposal was a method of protest about theneglect of the smuggler profession - now that we're (apparently) going to get what we wanted, this could be a way to show the Eclipse community a bit of goodwill, and earn some goodwill in return.
I don't mean this to sound rude Guam (I hold you in high respect for being a prime mover behind the "smuggler friday feature" protest), but if people are being generous, it's their choice about who to be generous to, because that's how generosity works.
Personally, I have lots of clamps and especially knives, but not too many WUKs or AUKs, and going out and buying WUKs/AUKs to slice for freewouldbe a bit extravagant.

Good points Guam. In light of that, I have a suggestion for an alteration to the idea. If it's happening in that storehouse (which I presonally prefer to scattering across different starports, as it'd give all us Eclipse Smugglers a change to hang out together too), how about we just pool our gear there, that way we're all just donating time? If this goes ahead closer to the slicing revamp, none of us would be giving up any equipmentof any real value.
That sounds like it would keep most everyone happy?
That sounds like a very reasonable solution. Sorry for being difficult. I know sometimes it is hard for everyone to get the same perspective when we all have different viewpoints...and I am one who seldom shies away from sharingthe "other" viewpoints

Not rude at all
I just think that it is a bit presumptuous of N'Varra to try and get movements going which her character can obviously sustain when so many other characters within the same profession are struggling and will be hurt by these efforts. I know it is unpopular to go against N'Varra, but the fact is not everyone can afford to do the things she suggests...yet we are looked at as loners or non-team players if we cannot support things she proposes. I am just speaking my mind instead of staying silent in fear of being shunned.
I agree that people can choose to be generous however they want, but look at it from the other side. When you are rich it is easy to be charitable and stand on principles as N'Varra is...the sacrifice really isn't that great. When you are poor (as I am) you don't appreciate the rich folks telling you to do things which are a huge sacrifice to your character, and then looking down on you for not supporting the team. All I am saying is, if you want to be noble then look inside your own castle first...there are a lot of needy peasants who could use your help AND will be hurt either financially (if they try to toe the "party line" with their meager assests) or socially (if they can't toe the line, the rest of the community shuns them). I don't want anyone's charity, but don't presume to frown upon me because I cannot afford the sacrifice you propose...especially when the sacrifice hits me a hundredfold more than you.
I do whatever I can to help the newer or less-fortunate players out there and will continue to do so. I choose to help whenever and wherever I can, but I don't like being put in a position where I either make a sacrifice someone else lays forth or be viewed as an outcast. Too often, that is what ends up happening in these type of situations.
