The problem is NOT PvP vs PvE related because you have to go to the EXTREME to get to a level 5 deadbeat. Even if you wanted to just keep getting spice you could go to level 4. Succeed in a mission bringing you back to level 3. Fail and go back to level 4 rinse and repeat.

So why don't we stay away from the PvP and PvE argument. It's not a winnable one.

The problem is NOT are we strong enough to face a PC BH because:

  1. We shouldn't be able to face a BH with just Smuggler skills alone

  2. Our focus should be on having an arsenal to escape a BH.

The problem IS exploitation ability.

It would be too easy for a Smuggler to fail a level 5 mission by keeping the cargo and allowing a PC BH to kill him and then they both split the pot.

Now I want to say again, and anyone who has followed my posts knows this- I WANT aPC BH to have a contract on me.

But until we can solve the exploitation problem I will be DAMN HAPPY to take this system as it is.

How about Instead of a 5 deadbeat score to get on the Bounty Hunter terms you take a mission specifically designed for PVP, in that mission your goal is to deliver the goods and the Bounty Hunters is to catch you and retrieve the goods before you can. Since they are apparently designing these missions to take differing amounts of time it should be do able to write the mission in a way that would work fairly well for this. The imbalance of combat power isnegated by the fact that the Smuggler's responsibility is to avoid detection, if we get caught it should hurt.By putting it this way only the SmugglerOR the Bounty Hunter get paid for the mission. Hunter and the Rabbit anyone.

I could be wrong, but I just went to a character boulder. A M-Smuggler not only could Master Pistoler, but also TKM and still have 3 Skill points left over. BHs also only get two weapon certs the "Scatter pistol and the LLC." I know this will be long after the CU you would still be more skilled then any BH with both templates. A BH can only master 1 ranged pro or 3/4th of a melee and still be a MBH. If that even does anything after the CU.

So you don't need a Skill point reduction your Pro has little pre req as it is?

I would like a simple system: When a Smuggler fails a cargo/cash related mission, he's put into debt with the mission-giver. In actual in-game credits. It could accumulate and you could work it off by performing free extra missions so you can work for that NPC again and actually make a profit when the debt is worked off, or a BH could contact the same NPC mission giver to see the list of people in debt, and get the option to collect it when he catches you. Which would be done without tracking droids or with them just giving the general location (for example, Arakyds just tell you the planet, while seekers pinpoint the mark, perhaps a passive skill to confuse seekers as was suggested, so the BH just gets the planet). Something like that - no real room for credit exploits, I think, since you owe money to a NPC, and his reward comes from a NPC (and would be smaller than the actual debt, of course).

I wouldn't put any deathblowing into this at all, or maybe just as something you can do if the person doesn't have the money, but doesn't give you a result as good as the capture/debt collection. (maybe the deathblowing puts the BH into a same 'bad' standing with the NPC, so it would actually be encouraged to either collect the money, pay a part of it yourself, give the Smuggler more time... well, it would obviously have to be worked out within the constraints of the game mechanics, this is just how I'd like BH/Smuggler bounties to look ).

Exactly.

BHs, by mature of having to ply alot of sp into Scout and Marksman, aren't that powerful. Certainly I'd fancy my chances of walkign away from a fight with a BH more than the obvious PvP templates

I wouldn't mind being hunted by a PC BH. But personally I think hunting Smugglers should be for a Master BH, and not a TKM with BH Investigation III. That would even out the playing field just a little.

This begs the question- when the CURB hits, what other profs do the bounty hunters want to be balanced against?

I think master BH is seriously underpowered at the moment. I would like to see master BH at the level where a jedi klight sees them coming and thinks 'f**k me, a MBH is comming to kill me, I'm in for a tough fight if I don't want to die'. MBH should be feared by the jedi. Right now, master BH vs jedi knight is not good, it's the BH 4000/melee stackers who can take on jedi knights.

As jedi knight is a pvp prof, it should be more powerful than a master smuggler in combat. It then becomes difficult to blance master smuggler vs master BH without making the master BH weak vs jedi knights.

Before they can add smugglers to player BH terminals they first need to fix the bugs and inbalances on the BH/Jedi system as it exists now. Then they need to make sure the new smuggler system works, and is bug free. People are saying that if you fail 5 mission in a row you should get on the BH terminals, but what if you had 5 missions in a row that you could not complete due to bugs? Anyone who does not think this is possible, talk to the older BH's, the ones who did the investigation tree in the time before mounts were added and ask how many of the BH missions were bugged back then. A new type of smuggler mission could be just as buggy to start. Then they need to find a way to balance smuggler vs BH vs jedi knight.

I'm sure some BH out there want a hunt to be a challenge, so they can't just kill smugglers in seconds with no risk, but they still want to be able to hold their own against jedi knights. This will be very difficult to get right. The devs are right to start with the NPC only part first, at least until all the bugs are worked out of the system.

It's also worth remembering that NPC bounty hunters do not need to be easy. Tiggs said the difficulty of encounts wildepend on the smuggler and the size of the smugglers group. You want to see how hard an npc could be after the CU? Try soloing a rebel commodore with no buffs, and at best 50% resist armour.

If you remember what this game was like before buffs, 90% comp and playing in a god mode became the norm NPC's could be a real challenge.

Tanks on smuggler bounties:

"This was brought up and the devs want to get the Smuggler changes in before a controversial PvP element is introduced."

Which sounds like excellent foresight on their part and implies they're open to adding it if that's what we want and the NPC end of things is working fine. I think that's the ideal situation for us.

There's some interesting discussion of smuggler bounties in the BH forum now, I recommend you all go take a look. A lot of thoughtful posts out of them, and they mostly seem to be on the same page we are.

Oh please you're a TKA, PIstoler, andM-Smuggler the same templetI just talked about. "Yeah better make it a MBH only thing so we know we can win." I bet even after the CU with that tempyou will out do a MBH.

As a Master Smuggler with no other combat skills (Master Shipwright and some Merchant), I have a feeling that any PC bounty hunter worth a darn would take me out easily. I would like the opportunity to try, but I do not want to have to fend them off every time I have to drop a shipment.

Iam all for it if there is some way to make it optional. I know that many people want it, and that many people don't. I hope that some kind of balance can be struck and those that want it can get greater rewards for thier greater risk.

I would like to see how the proposed system works out before we start adding on. What they are talking about is such a huge step forward that I am willing to wait to take it to the next level.

Look at my post about it. I have a neat way that Smugglers as PC bounties would work. The idea is that a smuggler wouldn't win in combat, but has a library of techniques to stay out of combat with a BH and a few ways to get out of combat if it is initiated.

With all the Hate, flame wars, trolls, complaining, accusing and every other negative thing that has been posted just over the BH hunting Jedi you really can not blame them for not wanting to expand it to other players. I think it would be great but seeing as there is so much negative content around this already why would they want to make it even more like that? I would not be surprised if the did not do the same with Jedi and have NPC BH go after them also. Not to be mean, but the people in the BH community that have posted all the negative posts (this doesnt mean trying to get things/bugs fixed) have basically brought this to be considered by them...it also says nothing is set in stone also but I would not blame that at all if they tried to avoid the headache of it.

Smugglers be careful what you ask for...you may get it.

I'm happy you smuggs got the love you need...we all know you deserve it.

Further more, as an ex BH, I do hope they put PC Bounties in the game, but when you take the contract (for a good number of credits of course) it gives a disclaimer that you would be placed on the terms if you fail.

Of course like most things, this would be high end content...but for now I'd rahter see you guys hunted by those NPC BH's and see how this system will work out.

Yes IF one of the following were true...

2. Smuggler evasion skills that would give us a chance of permanently evading the BH and removing ourselves from the term.

I personally would like to see #2 since I think our specialty should be stealth and avoidance.

What about instead of removing from the terms for #2, higher evasion skills foil the abilites of the BH's droids? "Can not locate target". I could picture a deadbeat master smuggler with a handfull of BHs hunting him, but having trouble finding him.

Another idea would be to put underworld skills to use: the smuggler learns that a player bounty has been taken on him. At lower level, he would recieve a mail simply stating "A player bounter has been taken on you." A higher level, the mail might even state the name of the BH. The mail could also be delayed a set amount of time after the bounty has been taken, and then time is reduced with level.

Ok, I'm done trolling... Good to see you guys seeing some documents. I'll head by to my SL board where I belong
