Huh??

What military does it's own manufacturing please tell?

Well it doesn't matter what real life says.

The Empire did give out exclusive contracts to build military hardware, like Siener and INCOM before they made the X-Wing and defected. q

Aside from the tons of cash we might possibly make selling FP/Perks/Bases, Its going to make the crackdown scan different for certain, as any non-civilian/on leave rebel, for example, will be shot on sight.

Just to clarify, those that are on leave will not be 'shot on sight'. You are however right, this will change the crackdown somewhat in that a large number of people will be SoS instead of scanned and ergo not care if they're scanned or not.

Do you think we might get some new abilities... maybe some kind of /maskfaction command, that could allow (at least PVP disabled) members of the same faction appear civilian when grouped? Hence allowingrebs to sneak past crackdown troops, and also for groups (imp or reb) to infiltrate the new PvE Bases?

It could be the first step towardsus reallysmuggling...

Nations both past and present have military-owned arsenals, but yes in most countries military equipment is primarily made by private companies.

However, that military equipment is ONLY sold to military buyers. I can't call up my local Colt sales rep and order 24 M203 Grenade Launcers, 100 M16A4 Rifles, and 200 M4 Carbines. Hense the black market for military grade weapons. I probably should have been more specific in how I worded that.

But anyway, I concede that the idea of a division between Imperial, Rebel and Civilian weapons would never be implimented because of the player outcry. It was just an idea since, finally, the devs are starting to tighten down on Factional distinctions and services, and since it seems most people are pleased with this development, it might have been possible to lay the groundwork for this Smuggling idea we all seem to want.

Case of bad punctuation there - was supposed to read as "if you are not a civilian or an on leave rebel", if you catch my drift. post edited. it makes far more sence now

As a Neutral Smuggler, for RP as well as choice, some aspects of the new changes are a little discomforting. I really hope this game does not become about having to join one side or the other in order to really experience it. I've always hoped that they would create more faction interaction for neutrals. I've wanted to wanted by the Empire because I was a Smuggler and not because I was a rebel. I really hope that the Smuggler Revamp and more changes to the GCW will bring more of this into play. The funny thing is that the people who profit most (and sometimes even decide the outcomes of battle) are those who are just in it for the money. They are the ones who work for whoever is paying the most at that point in time (as I like to RP).

I know there should always be a benefit to joining a faction and I will never suggest we go against that. But I also think there are ways to get everyone involved without having to pick a side. I like that they are making sweeping changes, but I hope that some of these changes are followed up by others that expand the game to all.

That's one of the major points I have a problem with. I want to get scanned as a civilian. I want to be attacked as a civilian because I broke the law. I want these things, and they are realistic and should be a part of the equation.

As for military equipment and us getting to smuggle. If Smuggling becomes a faction based skill, or the only way to participate in meaningful smuggling is to join a faction would be a huge disappointment. To me, it's an asinine prospect. I'm not saying that you shouldn't get smuggling missions from factions, I'm saying that they shouldn't be the best missions or the only meaningful missions.

Have they never heard of mercenaries or war profiteers or just plain criminals?

Civilan and people on "leave" from their factionneed to be subject to major fines and attack( if they run) from the empire. The crack down now needs to move twords Spice and Slice in a big wayand not focus mostlyon rebel seek and destroy or we go right back to where we were before the crack down pub.

Well, actually I had been assuming that those on leave, if detected, would be treated as if they were conbatants immediately after.. I'll go check on this.

Thanks Wes, I was thinking about this too. Let us know when you know more!

Theed was a bustling commerce city...people hawked their wares, danced, laughed, dueled, and had a rollicking good time. Cantinas packed with Entertainers of every race, shape and size...along with scoundrels, Stormtroopers, and drunks. People grouped up and stuck together in the wilderness, and you ALWAYS took a Scout or a Ranger with you. We lived our own Star Wars saga. We created our own personas, our own histories, and it all blended into this wonderful, magical experience that I will always remember...

That magic is gone now, but I'd pay 50 bucks a month to have it back.

Add to that imps shouldn't be able to pull rank when on leave, either.
