With this GCW shake up, what do you guys think the implications will be on out much loved profession.

Aside from the tons of cash we might possibly make selling FP/Perks/Bases, Its going to make the crackdown scan different for certain, as any rebel that is not "on leave", and acting as a civilian, for example, will be shot on sight.

Do you think we might get some new abilities... maybe some kind of /maskfaction command, that could allow (at least PVP disabled) members of the same faction appear civilian when grouped? Hence allowingrebs to sneak past crackdown troops, and also for groups (imp or reb) to infiltrate the new PvE Bases?

It could be the first step towardsus reallysmuggling...

The maskfaction command is an old idea I'd LOVE implemented. It would probably only be allowed to benefit "Combatant" (aka PvP Disabled aka PvE aka Covert) smugglers.

I think you'll find the only way you are going to be covert now is be on leave, as opposite faction NPCs will attack PvP disabled on sight.

Which is why it seems this is the perfedct time to introduce something we've been asking for for ages.

Well here's a bit of a dumb thought, but with the proposed GCW change, let me know what you think. According to the services breakdown:

Imperial Special Forces can heal Imperial Special Forces, Imperial Combatants and Civilians.
Imperial Special Forces can NOT heal Rebel Combatants or Rebel Special Forces
Imperial Combatants can heal Imperial Combatants and Civilians.
Imperial combatants can NOT heal Imperial Special Forces, Rebel Combatants, or Rebel Special Forces

Civilians can heal other Civilians.
Civilians can NOT heal Rebel Special forces, Rebel Combatants, Imperial Special Forces, or Imperial Combatants.

Rebel combatants can heal Rebel Combatants and Civilians
Rebel combatants can NOT heal Rebel Special Forces, Imperial Combatants, or Imperial Special Forces
Rebel Special Forces can heal Rebel Special Forces, Rebel Combatants and civilians.
Rebel Special Forces can NOT heal Imperial Combatants or Imperial Special Forces

How would we, as Smugglers, feel if this services chart were also applied to the crafting of military material (primarily weapons and armor). To me, it doesn't seem logical that a civilian would be producing these items for the military when the military has their own industrial complex. Likewise, I don't see an Imperial Weapon maker outright supplying the Rebels (not without a middleman). This would give Smugglers the opportunities to move weapons and armor between the lines.

Is this just way too far out there, or does it at least give us some kind of foothold to an actual Smuggling system?

ahhhh, Gunrunning... I subject close to my heart (through RP)

Question is, would you start dividing up different weapons for imperial/civilian/rebel use? or would they all make the same weapons with subtle differences? (a rebel spec T21 being different to an Imp one, for example, maybe they could implement factional versions of certain weapon components, available through fp exchange)

Armour is something different, as we all know whats happening with that, with factions getting their own, and I'm not sure if they'd let a bunch of rebs get hold of and use stormie armour

Yeah, first two things that crossed my mind when reading the In Development threads. I guess thoses changes explain WHY they did the whole "removing the 500 fp cap" move when they did.

I love the idea that as a Rebel I should not be able to walk without risk in the middle of an Imperial base. I love the idea that maybe as a Master Smuggler I might have a chance of pulling it off. Under that new system, the mask faction suggestion make so much sence.

I don't know, it seemed to work out pretty well for Han and Luke at one point

Point taken though about the armor. I mostly included armor because in the past i always forget to mention armor. In regard to weapons: essentially an E11 is a standard issue Stormtrooper carbine, while the DL17 is the Rebel equivalent. You'd basically be developing additional artwork for compatable weapons (i.e the Rebs might not have a T21, but a new Rifle with the same base-stats as a T21 and the same certification). This would also alow a bit more personal customization for characters. Instead of EVERY Rifleman using a T21, there'd at least be another option that doesn't detract from weapons effectivness.

I don't know if that makes much sense. I'm not good at developing fleshed out design docs. I just see an opportunity to help push along a Smuggling system, increase SWG's ties to traditional cannon, and get everyone away from cookie-cutter characters at once. Someone like Wes, Caylin, Drev or a few others with more experience might be better able to flesh the idea out and see all the eventual ramifications better than I could.

I think most of it is pretty much weaponsmith territory, get them interested in the idea and we might have something to work on. Don't think they'd bite though, sadly.

Hmmm...neutrals become "citizens"? No "criminal" faction? That makes me a sad panda...

let's get the GCW straitend out...then see what becomes of the criminal faction. Though...I think it would be cool to include a third faction (criminal, underworld, etc.) and let each side of the GCW (reb/imperial) vy for the services of the 3rd faction.

Yeah, they're not going to work criminality in for a while. I'm still hoping it'll be the next expansion.

Lay the foundations first. build on it later. We've pretty much been told "The Underworld" (as opposed to our underworld skill tree) will probably end up an expansion pack. Thats where they'll add new criminal factions, if anywhere.
