I'm possitive that's what he meant. It would be rediculous for him to post about a single skill tree in Smuggler in such a broad post. It's about the criminal environment as a whole.

I'm with Caylin on this. He stated they're not upgrading "the underworld". To me, the word "the" in front of a non-capitalized "underworld" means that he's not referring to our skill tree at all and is rather talking about the various criminal organizations of the galaxy.

I don't think they're going to revamp the smuggler profession without giving us the ability to smuggle... that'd be too obvious of a slap in the face after all the times that they've pushed our revamp back further and further.

I just hope that smuggling doesn't constitute a glorified delivery mission and is something more akin to what has been suggested in the past by GreenMarine, several of the other forum regulars, and myself (check the sig).

This game needs a developed law enforcement system with the capability to not only detect crime, but the balls and might to enforce it.

Only then will there be true smuggling, without a lame, glorified delivery mission.

Exactly.

At first, I was very excited to see the new posts about quests, POIs, new additions to professions etc. but now it somehow seems to me that this is all going into an Everquest-ish direction instead of a proper GCW, a proper Underworld, and, well, proper Star Wars.

Give it time. Maybe we'll turn this game from being an amusement park to being Star Wars - dirty and dangerous.

IMO, they were talking about the Underworld as a whole (factions, NPCs, quests, etc.) but the problem is - Smugglers, much like Bounty Hunters and other shady types (me, me, me!) can't really be revamped properly or even changed in a meaningful way without adding the whole law enforcement and Underworld factions element to the game.

That may very well be, however if we have our underworld branch revamped but the content is not there (The underworld) then we are still left with a usless skill tree. There needs to be an in game reason for using our skills.

They have set a precedent in pushing large amounts of new content and code into the game via their publishes and revamps such that I don't really see, even from a software development standpoint, that it is necessary to make underworld content part of an expansion.
Additionally, bug fixes and missing content aren't the realm of expansions -- they're the realm of patches and publishes.

Unless the underworld is going to be something expansive, and with new professions, ala JTL, it seems like a copout.
Although, if they are going to make an intricate underworld system, with factions, and perhaps new planets and cities, then I could deal with that being an expansion. Hell yeah.

Wouldn't work as an expansion - it needs a proper law enforcement system, a proper faction system not consisting just of Rebels and Imperials, and a whole set of rules and mechanics which wouldn't work if someone had the expansion, and someone didn't. The groundwork for all that we need to make a proper Underworld/factional revamp is already in the game, it just needs to be done as a larger publish.

I don't want to pay money for an expansion in order tocomplete a profession that's been around since launch.

Well, everyone should be involved if it's a crime/punishment/Underworld/factions revamp - but the way I see it, you can't really revamp that whole system without giving Smugglers a large role in it, making it very closely tied in with the Smuggler Revamp. So... I'm really hoping they will finally see the greater picture, make a proper plan and stick with it. The way they're currently doing things - with minipublishes and publishes... well, there's a lot of neat additions with each one, but some fundamental systems need to be changed in a manner that affects everyone - just like the Combat Upgrade/Revamp/Balance. I'm not sure if an ordinary publish is enough, and if it's done in an ordinary publish, it will probably mean it's not done in a way it should be.

I just meant it would be like JTL where anybody can join the Smugglers Alliance and not anything for smugglers only. I should have been more clear, sorry. my excuse is not enough coffee
