Thread: People will hate me… but here is the secret…

My business is built around getting people the slice that they want. As a matter of fact, I have been so consistent at studying the patterns that I get them the slice they want 85% of the time I would say. Why is that beating a dead horse?

Well to me it is an issue because people are calling for pick a slice and smuggling when I already pick a slice and smuggle "aquiring the illegal weapons and armor they want"

Perhaps if more people realized much of what they are wanting is already here, they would have as much fun being a smuggler as I do.

But there are definately some people who dont want to hear any good news or admit that they might have been wrong.

The professions of this game are like 32 spice fiends in the same room with a few fences. Everyone is screaming for their their fix. If you try to give everyone a little bump at the same time, nobody will be satisfied and the screaming will never end. If you single out each one really hook them up , you will slowly end the screaming. I know my turn is coming, but it still does not ease the pain of realizing I am nobody's favorite ho. --------------------------------------------------------------------

On my first day as Master, I got only Speed slices with one notable expection.

To those who say it can be manipulated, I say tell me exactly how to do it, because hell, another day like that and I'm gonna cry.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Yep runs like this occur. If I had wanted a damage slice after having a run like that... I would not have sliced the weapon on that day. Watch the patterns.

The ball has no memory. Patterns only exist in the mind of the person.

And this is what it all comes down to. To relate it a little further, you see 'patterns' because you are looking at what has happened. And if the game took each of those into account, there would actually be truepatterns. But I doubt they keep a running history of past slices to predict the future ones, which is why your chance is still 50/50 on speed or damage.

And as already stated, it can be disputed forever because nobody has looked at the code to see what is going on. All we know is what we see, which is why some people think it isn't random and some think it is. I, for one, believe it is random based on what I've seen but I can't prove it to anyone who thinks otherwise because the only solid proof is data, which can be manipulated by presentation and our personal biases.

But even with the way you 'predict' slices, you are playing the odds. You can't guarantee your results 100% of the time, which obviously leaves room for error. If your system isn't completely reliable, it isn't anything more than chance. What the smuggler community has asked for isn't what you claim to already have. You can't pick the slice, only sliceuntil you see a pattern and hope you get the desired result. It may be fairly reliable, but it isn't anything this community hasn't heard before (and as I recall, someone posted this idea a few months ago and also claimed that they could pick the slice with good accuracy, but not 100%). The proposed change isn't about guesswork, it is about being able to perform a completely reliable service, as far as I can tell.

You forgot group C. Peeps such as yourself who analyize what group A and B are doing. I quess that would make for group D. Me.

I hate to tell you this, but there is no pattern. I know this because for a pattern to exist you would have to take out all rules of randomness and chaos. And that is impossible. There is no such thing as order. There is always an unknown factor, negating order.

However...

Saying there is an always an unknown factor creates a constant, negating chaos.

So what am I saying here?

It's just a game. Play it, don't analyze it.

Here is the dumbed down version:

people have said it many times: Everyone who has sliced knows that slices often comes in "patterns". If you just got several speed slices, there is a very high probability that your next slice is gonna be a damage slice.

This also works with blackjack and roulette too. Just be sure to go to a table where they use multiple decks for black jack. They face the cards up and keep an eye out for strings of face/10 cards and low 2 or 3 cards. Almost like card counting except you don't need to count. Just look. In roullette if red/black comes up several times in a row odds are the next one will be the opposite color. Just be careful of those pesky 0s

On another note I think what you are getting at is that the game is designed to be 50/50 in the slicing department. This thatgetting several speed slices in a row increases your chance of getting damage slices in a row. In the end it's a 50/50 chance but pay attention and bet beg when the odds seem to be in your favor. Otherwise you are going to slice that Krayt pistol for 12% speed..errr...never mind that's just me.

Your analogy with the card counting is not relevant to this discussion. When playing a deck of cards the odds are calculated differently because each card flip is not a seperate event like a coin flip. The card flips are a set of events that affect the odds of each subsequent card flip due to the fact that you have a set number of cards. Therefore as you go through the cards without flipping a face card the odds of a face card coming up become greater. However with coin flips it has been shown that the odds are always the same.

The only way this would be relevant is if the devs made the slice results based off a set sample of results. However for such a sample to seem random would require more memory than a simple random number generator and thus would be less likely to be used. Similarly when flipping cards you have to remember what has already come out and I doubt that the devs would spend memory space for every individual smuggler to keep track of past slices. Without saving a past record there is no way for the computer to do any type of adjustments to adhere to the law of averages. Even having a script that went through the database to check your past slices from the saved weapon data would be a waste of bandwidth and therefore most likely not used.

With all do respect...I think your crazy. There cannot be a pattern to a random occurrence. If you over-analyze something like this, soon enough you will WANT to believe in what you know is not true.

Dude you realy need to chill on this stuff it is comments like this that get you flamed (then you flame them and the circle of life goes on and on and on). While your point about slicing is good it is not new it really was beaten to death in the past.I understand your new to the smugglerboardsand want to strike up a conversation and i can dig that, Butyou really need to stop with saying people are negative all the time, its like your trying to pick off a scab. I, as well as everyone here has fun with smuggler as a matter of fact geevo's random thoughts thread is a good example of that. You dont need to point out the fun in smuggler people are (for the last time) upset about communtication and dead lines not being met by the dev's (who we all respect but are a little peeved at atm), it is really that simple.

Then if it was completely random how did the guy get speed slices all night long and how did I slice 4 full suits of armor for encumbrance last night whereas the previous night I was getting all speed slices? It is not completely random.

I apologize for raising a smuggler based topic that is not based on called the developers liars and rebuke SWG as being a piece of crap game. I apologize for hinting that there could actually be some things in SWG that made the game "fun" for those who figured out how to do it. I apologize for offending the left brain thinkers who want to make the whole galaxy conform to their limited view of the galaxy. This board used to be cool. Oh how I hated the BH boards where you could not even hint at having any kind of pleasure in the game without being flamed all to hell. This board is really beginning to suck.

I always find it funny when the crazies think they see a pattern in a roll.

And since weapons are capped at 35% slices, you won't see anything higher.

I had a long response to this, but it signed me out...Im in no mood to re-type it, so let me simply say this - calm down. How did you slice speed all night? Luck of the draw. From one slice to another, your chance of getting Speed or Damage is completly identical - 50% chance. 14,523 speed slices in a row, and your next slice is just as likely to be speed. I think I speak for all smugglers when I say we are open to views/opinions/theorys/thoughts on our proffesion...but this idea has come and gone, and as much as we would all love a "usable" pattern or system, I think most of us would agree, there isnt one.
