Thread: smuggling idea
So this would go along with a hope of new locations to travel to, that would require a smuggler to gain access. Perhaps even as a key to instanced dungeons for all I know. I'd gladly smuggle someone into those situations and if they pay me enough I might stick around to take them back out
(BEN: We haven't that much with us. But we could pay you two thousand now, plus fifteen when we reach Alderaan. HAN: Seventeen, huh? Okay, you guys got yourselves a ship. We'll leave as soon as you're ready. Docking Bay 94.)
We could let the bounty hunters follow those they have bounties against. I think I'd get a kick out of it if a jedi was smuggled to an instanced dungeon, then while there he gets bushwacked by a following bounty hunter.
EXAMPLE:
- A Doctor on Lok collects his harvests of Lokian Wild Wheat. Knowing that this is a restricted resource by the Empire, he takes his stacks of Wheat to a "Delivery Contact" NPC. The Contact take his Wheat and the Doctor inputs a payment to the NPC Contact.
- Somewhere in Tyrena, Corellia, a Master Smuggler is cycling through a list of Player Smuggling Missions from a "Smuggling Job Contact" NPC. He comes across the Doctor on Lok's mission to transport his Wheat to Doaba Guerfal. The Smuggler takes the mission, travels to Lok, and talks to the Contact there.
- He picks up a single item like a Datadisk and transports it to Doaba. He can be interfered with by other NPCs along the way. When he makes his delivery of the Datadisk to the Doaba "Delivery Contact" he is paid in full. Doctor comes along later and picks his shipment up from the contact who receives his actual items.
- NOTE: If the smuggler would fail the mission or give up the datadisk to an NPC in exchange for some decent loot, then the Doctor would have the option of placing a bounty on the Smuggler. The bounty could be the payment to the Smuggler with a certain multiplier for the bounty hunter's payment.
I'd like to see certain, high grade resources not able to be transported off their origin planet without the aid of a Smuggler.
But back to Ezkiel's idea....It'd be neat. I'd like to see it work for everyone, not just Jedi. I mean, that is if we can ever get player bounties going on individuals that aren't Smugglers or Jedi. Such as Smuggling high-ranking Rebel or Imperial players who may have a bounty on them through Coronet to the Dantooine Mining Outpost or something.

well, there are two parts in your idea Ezkiel, NPC smuggling, and Jedi smuggling (or maybe Smuggling, i have to check later).
About the NPC part, i'm all for it, having some NPC to give us missions (why not use those bothans spynets operators we can see everywhere and we can't have a discussion with, even as bothans?) Having a sliced terminal show up a third tab with black market jobs is a good idea too.
On the other hand, having a "smuggler's mission terminal" is not very immersive IMO.
About the Jedi part, i have a trouble about giving jedis the keys of contentfor otherplayers. They are the only ones with bounties on their head, they are the only ones that give BH some interdependancy with other players, if they become the master's smugglers content it wouldn't be good for the balance. We could have the opportunity to play with them or smuggle them, but they shouldn't be the only ones. Smuggling a jedi should be as bad as smuggling a Rebel Combat Medic (it's a chemical warfare terrorist, that's not supposed to be loved by Palpatine), playing with visibality could be an option too, but that would mean we could gain (and lose) some visibility ourselves, so that we should ask some fellow smugglers for help...).
As a conclusion, i would like to mention that the ideas that are here are all good, but if we are to ask for somethnig like this to happen (and we want something to happen), let's make sure we ask for the good things, i don't like the fact that there are more jedis than smugglers, i wouldn't like to be dependant on jedis to have some content.

Good ideas about a specific type of smuggling.
I'd still like to see a system where we can Smuggle items and resources for players.

i like this idea alot also because it involves other players also. could be more then resources of course, if could also be contraban weapons and so on.

Wow, this thread has some great thoughts!Just to expand on NickHeel's post here - If our Doctor can't transport Lokian Wheat off of Lok, then Lok should have import restrictions - that Tatoinne Fiberplast can't be brought onto the planet, otherwise Doctors will just set up their food factories on Lok.
I'd also love to see Smugglers develop a speciality - this goes back to the idea of developing reputation points discussed way back when. But a Smuggler who successfully transport Lokian wheat to Tat will develop a reputation for deliveries, maybe even get a skill modifer on a route that will help them bypass security (not that there is any - but one day God willing there'll be content like this!!)
The player can indicate what level of smuggler they want (and of course pay higher for it). To prevent players from using exclusively high end smugglers and cut the novice smuggler's out the tradeoff to the player would be the ability to put on bounty on the player, and seek repayment. At the low end the player can put a bounty on the lower rep player without a problem, however, for the higher end smuggler - the player realizes that the smuggler is successful and that sometimes things happen. Don't even tell me about the difficulty of the mechanics required to make this work - it's Xmas and this is my wish list! ![]()

What if smuggling was implemented into the game just like BH does its bounty hunting. Set up smuggling mission terms or NPC mission givers. Then the smuggler goes to the term and looks at various missions. Early missions would have him smuggling merchandise to on planet NPCs, and later ones, with bigger pay, have him going off planet. During the course of the mission (based on difficulty of mission) the smuggler may face resistance in space as well as on ground before arriving at the delivery spot.
At master smuggler level you could smuggler player Jedi’s also. The player Jedi would go to the NPC or smug term and request a smuggling job and pay the fee to the terminal at time of mission creation. The Jedi would then wait to be contacted by the hired smuggler. As soon as the smuggler agreed to the mission he would also be vulnerable to attack by the BH who might be pursuing the Jedi, thus involving three of the most iconic star wars classes in a player driven story.
The finale would be when the smuggler drops off said Jedi in the appointed location (chosen by the Jedi during mission creation), and is paid by the mission system using the money the Jedi paid to create the mission. Perhaps even if the BH is able to catch up and defeat both players, then he gets his reward plus the smugglers pay as a bounty on him.
1. Mission Terminals - (glorifield delivery mission) - mechanics are already in game just need smuggler terms and missions in criminal theme parks. These mission can be done all day every day and xp goes to the Underground Tree. If you fail the mission you build up visablity points for the BH terminals.

keep in mind that jedi, smuggler and bounty hunter are the three professions that form most of star wars films. they are the primary professions, and to get them all working together in player driven content is a very star warsy activity.
Sure i keep this in mind, (well in fact ony smugglers keep that in mind, even StarWars correspondants, LA reps and devs seem to have forgotten it). But my point is that being the 3 iconic professions in the universe doesn't make us the only 3 interactive professions. Smuggling jedis is referring to Han smuggling ObiWan and his farmer young friend Luke. That's one situation among others that happened in the everyday life of a smuggler, Han was more used to smuggle goods than persons, Booster Terrik (and his daughter Mirax) were better in art transactions, Talon Karrde in goos and information...
On a balancing point of view, only being able to smuggle Jedis would bring deep content for 3 professions, making them "superior" to the others and leaving the Bio engineers wondering what to do ingame (BEs are taken as examples here, but you can insert what you prefer). Further more, that would give Jedis all the content for the game, we would depend on them to fulfill our part, i'm all for connections with others professions, but i'm not for these connections to be converging around the same profession. Jedis are no kings and we are no servants.
If we are to smuggle people, that means that there would be reasons they need to be smuggled, and we all think of player bounties. That's ok, so let's put a system with players bounties available for everyone, for instance each and single time someone is caught with contraband (sliced gear, spices or others) his visability raises, and at a certain levelhe ends up on BH terms, thus needing a smuggler to help them escape the place, the more the smuggler smuggles people, the more his own visability grows and so on...
That would bring penalty for having contraband, that would bring content for everyone, and that would be a bit more fair for non jedis. Of course any feedback is welcome, but i think i've got something there. i'll try to go further in my mind to discove what hides behing the fog

I would much rather like to see a proper cargo smuggling system with starport checks (for illegal weapons, spices, even larger amounts of medications etc.) implemented to give Smugglers content with player and NPC interaction - something like the Imperial Crackdown v2.0, tightening the 'authority' grip on the travel system.
If 'smuggling' of player characters is ever to be implemented, it would have to be a much more complicated system, affecting everyone equally, tied to a crime&punishment system, more factions, proper factional area-of-influence system etc. And I sincerely doubt we'll be seeing all of that even in the Smuggler Revamp.
