I always suspected he was probably the only true die-hard Star Wars Fan red-name. I definitely knew he was the _only_ rebel red name, the rest are imperial fanboi's. But his thread today strikes to the core of those of us who identify most closely as a smuggler.

I call BS. If he was our upgrade/revamp/thingthatwillneverhappen would have been a slam dunk a long time ago.
I dont think he has any control over content.. he's just the community relations guy. Every monday they sit down for a weekly meeting and he gives a report of what the community opinion is. I'd be willing to bet that every monday he does say '.. and the smuggling community is still upset and some outraged that after XTime they still cant smuggle and havent gotten their promised revamp'. That doesnt mean he gets his way, they probably hire him to tell them this stuff to cover their butt but do what they want anyway. Remember GreenMarine? He actually WAS a programmer completely onboard with smuggling. Infact it was his love of the idea that got him assigned to us in the first place. He eventaully quit because he was never listened to. If you read his reply on his blog about working for a smaller company.. you can read between the lines. The difference between a big company and a small company all boils down to voice and recognition. In a large company you are a tiny voice, a cog in a wheel. To a small company your opinion and ideas carry significantly more weight. Ive worked at both and definitely preferr small, specializing consultant firms where I am paid to come in and be the outside expert. The same companies that hire me to give them an opinion had people giving the same opinion, they just wouldnt listen to them. Suddenly now that the same opinion cost $100,000US they love it.
Thunderheart's fault lie in his breakdown in communicating with the public... he cant be held responsible for anything above and beyond that simply because of how impotent a public relations position is in the first place. I know for a fact other programmers have said that he nags the crap out of them for answers and when they see him comming they try and hide. That was mentioned more than one time by some of the programmers.
Yea, I agree. A Community Relations position really is impotent. That is why I don't hold any sort of grudge against Thunderheart or Tiggs. I really feelthat the producers of this game don't really even listen to the SOE staff that much. They seem to get ALL of their information from exit questioneers, archaic polls, and Star Wars movie marketing trends. Now the producers are hiring the Neilson company to tell them the same crap that we've been saying and that the community relations people here have.
I really suspect a large degree of mistrust on the part of Lucas Arts toward SOE. I feel that has played a very large part in keeping this game from reaching it's potential.
Lucas Arts has never done a MMO before, and they probably mistake the friction that arrisesfromtheir inexperiencewith their interaction with the SOE staff, which has been making MMO's for years now.
Lucas Arts is used to probably enjoying strict control over many of the first-person-shooter games that it has produced in the past, so much so that they are probably bureaucratic in nature by now,a characteristic that bodes VERY POORLY for them being in charge of a company (SOE) to make their new MMO, especially when the Lucas Arts people have had little experience with the genre.
The result is that big decisions are made that are very poor for the health of the game and produce side effects that have effectively destroyed it.
i can't agree with that one Axob. CR is not, by definition, impotent. their job is not just to disseminate information DOWN from the top, but also to deliver it UP from the bottom. they are the conduit. and so they (should) have the power of the masses behind them.
unfortunately, the CR people at SOE have either been ignored or have no backbone. Tiggs made a statement the other day that the devs will do what they think is best even if the community doesn't agree. if CR had a voice, one way or the other, this would never happen. it is CR's job to make sure the community's wants and needs are translated and listened to at the top. but, like i said, either they are being ignored or not pushing hard enough. no idea which, but either way something needs to change.
"only rebel red name, the rest are imperial fanboi's."
From a Rebel point of view I find that pretty funny. The Imperial players are nerfed to oblivion and the GCW is nothing but "find a bunch of stormtroopers and kill them with a lightsabre".
Yes, the imperial faction perks are better but thats only because its supposed to be an incentive to join the Empire considering Imperial players are typicaly outnumbered 3 to 1 atleast.
As for TH being a Smuggler... no offense to TH but he'd be pretty lousyas a smuggler![]()

put yourself in his shoes.. your a paid beta tester who gets offered a corporate position for a company that used to be quite reputable. Your esteem goes up, you move to a completely different town at their request. Your cost of living is a lot higher, your standard of living got higher too because of the increase in job pay and title. You and your family are living in LA, hopefully making new friends, if not your only friends are your work associates at SOE. Suddenly the wheels start falling off the bus and theres 2 major staffing turnovers at SOE and a major staff turnover at LA. Nobody at corporate cares what you tell them and no matter how many times you try go get the communities point across without being blatantly insubordinate, they just dont care. It's apparent they just hired you to be the abuse shield and nothing more. Similar to the way they appoint corrospondents and refuse to listen to them. Now you are trapped, you cannot return to the life you knew because they painted you into this corner with an increase in living expense coupled with an increase in standard of living coupled with the move-and-isolation manuever. All he can do is try and interview elsewhere and hope something takes hold before the ship goes underwater.
