Smuggler Archive
Thread: This is not a please read post.
I think I've had it up to here with these forums.
Too much bickering going down now... Too much whining about the fact that soon isn't soon enough... Too much whining that people are seeing fixes for other things before our own content appearing and completley FORGETTING a little post made by our good buddy Greenmarine about how coding of this game works...
(I wish i could find a link for It, but I couldn't, so excuse the paraphrasing)
Some things we see patched in this game can use current resourses (code, art, etc) and as such are quicker to produce and get out.
Some things need NEW CODE, new art, new resources, and take FAR LONGER BEFORE THEY ARE READY.
"New" animations for jedi and TK (a say "new" because they arent and have just been lying around unused) a bit of patching to the current code required.
Fixing elements of the CU, among other patches we are seeing...ditto. could be as simple as changing one variable.
The Slicing update - New interfaces, new dialogue, new code all of which has to be integrated into the current system, If we end up slicing more than just damage and speed I'd think there's going to be some kind of database issue too... I'ts a COMPLEX thing.
The Smuggling missions are going to be very similar to this. Veelas told us the code to that is done and it needs the dialogue written. Mission dialogue is going to take a while unless they decided to make every conversation and mission sound rediculously generic, and you just know we'd complain like mad if that happened. So writing that is going to take a bit of time.
The more complex something is going to be the more likley it might conflict with existing code... see Jfreemans posts.
It saddens me to see the once patience once seen in these forums has given way to something akin to a bunch of bawling kids in the back seat of a car...
"Are we nearly there yet?"
"not far now"
"Are we nearly there yet?"
"we'll be there soon"
"Are we nearly there yet?"
"I SAID SOON"
CHILL OUT.
Edit: DING! I'm orangey! Like the centre of a jaffa cake!

I totally get that but there is nothing I can do about what happened back then. I have come in this forum a few times and got blasted. Does it stop me from coming back? Nope, it does make me choose my words wisely when talking to this profession because every statement is ripped apart and taken 10 different ways.
I broke my rule and gave you tentative information, lets see how it goes.
I think that I can speak for most players in that we would rather be in the loop and be asked to wait a few weeks rather than be totally in the dark. I hope people appreciate the fact you are communicating and act maturely if the tentitive schedule needs to be adjusted.
This is our chance to show maturity and patience...we have been given information....lets give them a reason to continue giving it to us.

I almost want to tell you not to bother, because you're right...it IS a catch-22. You give info and (god forbid) something changes, people call you guys liars. You don't give info, and people call you guys liars anyway.
It makes me sad that you have to choose your words wisely to talk to us.![]()
I think you have forgotten or need to realize that you shouldn't trust the Developers. Just because someone told you something to your face...or told a crowd of people something in person, does not mean they were telling you the honest truth or that they had any intention on following through with their actions.
We've been preached to for 2 years how everything was just one patch away. Or coming just after this fix or that fix. I don't believe these statements from JFreeman or Tiggs or whoever talked to you at FanFestany more or less than any other we've seen.
I believe that Fishy and Veela were told something at Fan Fest. I do. But until I see results, I have to go with past history and believe that sooner or later, something's going to happen and we'll hear the classic "Oops! Something came up. We couldn't get your profession fixed the way you wanted."
I don't think people should get their hopes up too high. We've got a lot of new people around here with "born on" dates from late 2004 and early this year and they think they've been fooled around on by the Devs. I hope everything goes smoothly but...nothing with us has...ever.
Everyone needs to think about this before we so blindly follow a statement. It's no different than anything else we've been told in the past.

There is no doubt smugglers need to get their slicing ability fixed..but...
I think the people in this thread (devs included) are going too far with communicating game info, the purpose of correspondants and profession forums was for the community to have a place for their concerns and/or potential game balances fixes to be heardbut now its just a place where people are ranting and demanding their profession needs fixed.."I want it now now now now" kinda thing, if they could give you the fix now wouldnt they? I thinkYes they would, so it stands to reason that they cant...yet.
Its a hard truth to accept but numbers count for everything and compared to other professions smugglers and slicing in particular is a low priority.
Tiggs: If you are going to reply to these threads or give fix progression updates in general it might be an idea to explain why those fixes were put back, what replaces them and why they took priority, people wont be happy but at least they will have a reason and know the devs are being honest.
I'm really sory to say this., but : bite be glow stick boy
I was just a little drunk last night, hence the spelling mistakes. So here is the way it should look :

So in other words Tiggs, don't expect to see slicing fixed for a good 3-6 months. Great
*sighs* No! We are on a publish schedule of 2-3 weeks for each publish to hit Live.
Psst, Tiggs... you're on the Smuggler forum, one week is like a month to us.

/sigh okay, I didn't want to get into this, as I have a tendency to get a little abrasive...
but I need to know just one thing.
2-3 weeks from what? From when the devs working on it turn it over to QA? From when it goes to TC?
Because last time I checked, Publish 18 wasn't on TC yet. So that's 3 weeks. Pub 19 is 3 weeks. Almost 2 months right there. QA pushes it back a couple publishes like JF and you have said could happen...
and that's 3 months right there. Ignoring whether QA gets further delayed by the stuff that's apparently going in before slicing.
Heh, there goes that overanalyzing that you were worried would happen.
Hey Tiggs, how about posting on the Ranger forums once in a while?
Have you forgotten about us? ![]()

It's times like this when I realize how LITTLE has changed since November '03...
Back then, I would've been excited by this...
Now...eh...*shrug*...
The real crux of the problem is, Day 1 of the Combat Upgrade Alphaforums, I TOLD the devs that the existing slicing system wasn't going to work in a Post-CU world. Did they listen? Nope...they basically told me that it wasn't a priority and to sit quietly in my corner. Now they're having to scramble to fix something that should have been part of the CU anyway...
Ah well...back to my exile...
/salute to all of the Smugglers still fighting the fight...

Totally in agreement.
This thread means absolutely nothing unless results are produced. How many posts by all of the Devs do I have to site that say the profession is being reworked very soon, it's getting a brand new skill onion, slicing will be fixed soon, ect. It's all been done before with nothing to show for it. I've seen it for the past 2 years, why should I get excited and believe them this time?
Have the Devs put something on the table that I can see, experience, and evaluate. Then I'll get hopefull. Until then, this thread is just as useless as any other in the past. I hope they are working on this and it'll be out in 2-3 weeks...or even a month. But...well, go read EN's classic thread on our history and you tell me what you really think and why this situation is any different.

I look at posts like this and realize it is a catch-22. When information was communicated in the past (before my time) everyone went wild. If that information missed the target or was removed then everyone was upset and the community felt the team was lying. This is why when I first started posting not only to this profession but to all, I stood firmly with if it is not 100% solid, I wouldn't post. Players were across the board on my posting that but for the most part many agreed that this would be a better route to take.
Our communication has been down lately with the following events hitting us from all sides: Celebration, Combat Upgrade, Rage of the Wookiee, E3 and Fan Fest. While these are not excuses the actuality of it all is releasing Combat Upgrade and RoW was like releasing two expansions at once. Something that no game has ever done.
We all learned some valuable lessons from doing two simultaneous releases and in the future our goal is to improve the communication flow so we don't run into that situation again.
Smugglers are mad and rightfully so...they have been promised loving for well over a year and instead of getting love the smuggler system get gutted and Jedi keep getting loving/fixes over smuggler and every other system in the game.
Jedi is an alpha class and people are REALLY getting tired of it...
I'm NOT a Jedi, have no plans on BEING a Jedi, and don't even think TWICE about any Jedi...
I am a SMUGGLER, I set out to BE a SMUGGLER, and that is what I did! Am I happy? No! But at least with CU I was given some special moves besides low-blow, last ditch, but my feign death was destroyed! But fine..
I do want people like you to know that although we have NEVER "received the "love" people feel they should have received; be aware that Jedi, Doctors, Entertainers, and in many cases the crafters were all screwed over after CU... Plus, there must have been a FIRE SALE over at the Imperial Bounty Hunter License Center because the number of "Masters" that have crapped out is insane!
It's as if SOE introduced the ability to change your species, and added Chiss, all you'll see are blue faces with red eyes! (hehe, yeah, I'll be one!) (HINT TIGGS!)
But at leat we were given ABILITIES! our SPICES (although I resent being a drug dealer to some degree) are useful again! and we have no faction cap (although the PRICES are insane)!
But don't say "Jedi is the Alpha Class" when it's clear to me that that "honor" goes to Bounty Hunters... The're abilities have been increased, as were their numbers, defenses, and damage, wherein Jedi saber damage is on par with a CDEF Pistol and we are ALL *** F O R C E D *** to group in order to gain any XP (now, I'm completed, so I have no use for XP and I'm NOT grinding FS! so this does not directly effect ME, but it's still a JOKE!)
It always seems to me that rather then people being constructive, like the original post "was" to a degree, everyone has to poin their figer on what "the other guy got"...
The only thing I'm P.O.'d about with SOE is - as an almost 2 year vet, I got a lizard that runs nice but not as fast as a guy that just started yesterday's BARC that will wind up being DELETED because the guy will NEVER accept the fact that he can't be a Jedi in a week! That, to me is more of a pain the a patch we've been waiting for and still THINK it's coming... Guys... It'll get here when it does... I'm not going to hold my breath!!
So get your nose away from the window, and stop looking at what your neighbor is doing, do your job, mind your business, and worry about your family, not someone elses!
