Thread: HoC SWG Chat log
I have followed these HoC ever since I started playing SWG. There hasn't been ONE useful chat. 50 questions about stuff no one cares about, and a filter preventing any "hot topics."
Tiggs, it may go a long way for the developers to actually hold a HoC chat about stuff the players actually care about. Why not throw yourselves into the fire? Maybe have the following HoC chats,
- SWG Economics
- Jedi Favoritism
- Combat Upgrade Feedback
- GCW and Jedi, is there a possibility?
- Smuggler, Squad Leader, Ranger Discussion

Actually, there were50 questions people do care about, but 50 useless answers.

One exception, either June or July there was a HoC where afterward Darth_Platypus and Tiggs went into another channel to contigue a q&a dialog. I asked point blank if the combat level 192 super battle droids on the corellian corvette were working as intended since they 1hit kill everyone and spawn all over the place. By the next publish those droids got reduced to CL94 or somewhere around that value. Noone had even made him aware they were bugged despite many people putting it into the bugs on the forum. I think the programmers are kept in a vacuum.

What I would have asked,
1) Can we expect numerous bugs and the fixing of the said bugsconsuming thedeveloper's time for the next few months delaying any progress in other parts of the game?
2) Can we expect LoS issues with the terrain resulting in 100's ofplayers afk grinding for weeks?
3) Whois the content in the new expansion balanced to? Jedi? Carbineers? Smugglers?
4) This content you speak so highly of, will it consist of running 2500 meters to kill 50 mobs, travelling back, turning a quest and repeating it 25 times for a gun that is worthless?
5) Will Bounty Hunters be able to track jedi on Mustafar or will it be another safe spot for jedi to grind?
6) If this game is not supposed to follow any of the movie storylines, why is there so much concern with including content from the movies when EP3's DVD is released?

Rogue_5 - Great question. We like those planets too and there has been a lot of discussion about them. However, there has been a lot of interest in Mustafar coming from the Episode III movie and we also felt the Mustafar lent itself to some very exciting gameplay. The planet itself adds a completely new environment unlike anything currently in our galaxy. We believe it will be a lot of fun to explore.
-----------------
Who exactly expressed an interest in Mustafar? WHO?!!!!! Can we please see the petition submitted to a statistically significant cross section of either SWG players or at the very frickin' least of Star Wars fans that indicated there was a driving interest in Mustafar?
I felt compelled enough to add to this question.. as the person that offered the question on "the lava planet"*. The only compelling "interest" in this planet I can see is from the marketing department. Most folks I know in game (and on the boards) think we already got our EP3 related expansion and thats enough. But the reason for me breaking my self imposed forum ban and posting here is to point out that there is some data - unscientific as it may be, that falls totally contrary to the stated "interest" in Mustafar or any other EP3 content. Form the Lucas Arts home page, there currently is a poll:
Which of the following Star Wars Battlefront II gameplay features are you looking forward to the most?
Space Combat and Boarding Enemy Ships 53%
Playable Jedi 41%
Episode III Locations 6%
8/12/05 - 8/26/05
link to current results, will change when next poll is offered
There you go... "Star Warsy" content beats out both jedi and blows by Ep3 content by a mile
* and you jedi fanbois in chat that sent me tells calling me a nub for not knowing about or ever seeing ep3 realize that I did call it "some lava planet" because thats how i feel about it because my history is with the original trilogy and a number of EU books, not some movie i saw once
What is the development roadmap for SWG for the next twelve months?
As a good basis for ability to fulfill this roadmap, what was the roadmap for the previous 12 months?
The answers to these two questions would answer most other questions people have.
As a third, bonus, question, is there even a roadmap and if not, why not? It could also be called a business plan.
Basically, what are the mid term and long term plans for the game? Or are you all 'winging' it? I get the feeling that many of the Devs really like this game and want it to be great. But, there is a lack of a centralized plan and or whip cracker to stick to that plan.
And as a side note, I feel for you Tiggs. I really do. You are the messenger delivering only what you are allowed to deliver and constantly beat up for doing your job. But, I really hope you are passing on the deep dissatisfaction to those who can do something about it.
SCREW YOU. I'm not going to buy this crap if it sounds like crap to me... just to 'give it a try'. And the argument that we're ALL going to buy it because we ALL want the new crappy 'thanks for buying, here's something for you to play with in-game or sell for five million credits" 'award' is BULL.
I was close enough when Mount Saint Helen first blew up. I was just old enough to remember 3 days of darkness, the neverending layer of grey over everything and soot that feel from the sky like a dark snow. It was the pits!
A lava world? You can have it!
Regarding the HoC Chat and Trials
The dialogue from the IRC chat stated that the expansion would be for High Level characters. Does this mean Dual Combat Class CL80 characters and Jedi exclusively or would this include a Master Ranger + Combat Class which equals CL80 but is more akin to Master Combat + Master Crafter in real combat terms. ( A CL54 in CL80 clothing). Master Ranger + Master Combat may reflect CL 80 but its skill set, bugs, and lack of combat mods make this level erroneous. The Master Ranger profession according to the Astromech stats of old was once in the Top 5 most played professions and now is in the bottom 5 least played. This has occurred over 2 years of neglect and removal of viability of Ranger with no return (ie. removing the need for camps while not replacing camps with another skill, camo not working properly do to the CL Rating vs. Aggro implementation, etc). The list of proposals requested of the Ranger community for the Dev community or community representatives is substantial and the bug lists are equally substantial. When will this profession get some serious attention and recognition or deletion as an player profession? Can you answer this question Tiggs or do you only respond with astonished emote faces or to Happy Birthday threads.![]()

Secondly, how can this expansion be anything but Jedi content. 1. Its on Mustafar 2. ObiWan's Blue Glowie communicates missions(how is that Episode 3 content now its Episode 3 and 5 intermixed) 3. Learn more about the lIght Side and dark side 4. The big promo is OOH Get a Lava Light Saber Crystal

Might I suggest a "general swg" chat? There's plenty of on-going lingering issues in live that would be nice to get answers on. Or better yet, let the correspondents do the five questions deal again.
A general chat is harder for us to do because it would require us to pull members from each team off of the projects they are working on so every area is covered. That is why these are always based upon a set discussion topic.
Thanks for the quick response and communication. Perhaps you can just pull out a couple of "know-it-alls" from the staff and if a question arises that they don't know the answer to, they can just skip it like you would do in a normal topic-specific chat.
And what about the correspondent suggestion? Can we revive the 5 questions idea?

Nope it is all done for free.
So it is just being used as another marketing outlet for canned replies to predictable questions on narrow topics, then?
At least that's how I read all the, "We can't answer, but believe me, you can't wait!" replies. :/
Edit: What I was hoping that the HoC chats were were an opportunity to discuss and understand the nature and direction of the present and future of the game.

HoC chats are an opportunity to discuss the topic at hand. Last night's chat discussion was based upon the new expansion announcement and experience changes from last week.
We can only answer questions that pretain to those chat discussions. Players submit the questions to question takers and they are forwarded on to us during the chat. There will always be certain topics we can't discuss due to trade secrets so to speak.
I think most of us understand that. What you said in the announcement, however, is that there would be, and I quote:
Wednesday's topic'sare: Star Wars Galaxies: Trials of Obi-Wan (TOW) and a discussion about current and upcoming content publishes and updates.
Now if I were to read that, especially the RED PART, I would assume there would be more to it than "we can't talk about it but it's really exciting".
You discussed Trials of Obi-Wan but you DID SAY you would be discussing current and upcoming content publishes. You applied that separate from the Trial of Obi-Wan.
Thank you ![]()
