Thread: feign death and pvp

I'm not a smuggler, but I was hoping that perhaps someone from the profession could help clarify this for me. Last night, a group of an opposing faction attacked a few members from my guild in Tyrena, myself included. After being killed a couple of times (admittedly I'm not the best PVPer), I was able to incap two of our assailants. The first one I db'ed no problems. The second one was a slicer. I approached him, then double-clicked him.

Nothing...

Except my avatar kept on shooting him...I thought this was a bug. So I clicked DB on the radial menu.

Again, nothing. Just shooting an incapped body.

He had nothing left on his HAM, but as far as I could tell he wasn't DB'ed. After about 20 seconds, I figured "oh well, for whatever reason I can't DB him". So I left. Then maybe oh, say, less than a minute later, I receive a rather bitter /tell from this guy (and I paraphrase): "Enjoy your SOE account while it lasts. You've just been reported for exploiting the Feign Death bug."

Whaaaaa? Since this was like say, my 3rd or 4th experience with PVP, I had no clue about this. I thought exploits were when you were aware of a system glitch or bug, and use it repeatedly, giving you an unfair advantage...but then maybe that's just me. I am new to online rpgs, so maybe my preconceived notions are a little off-base.

I spoke to a few guild members afterwards, only to find that most of them received the same tell from him. Seeing this perhaps as a means of intimidating us, or even genuinely getting us in trouble (which is an utterly pathetic PVP strategy) I reported him as well. Admittedly I was a little overheated too, since at the beginning of the skirmish I was killed in lag so bad, I thought I had Link Disconnected. This morning has found me hoping nothing will come out of it, though, for either of us.

But for the record, dear Smugglers, I'd like to know...is Feign Death bugged in PVP? How is it bugged? Please let me know so I won't repeat an innocent mistake again, and get forever labelled a griefer.

PS - PAX Imperius on Scylla (and especially the person in question...P - this means you) - If this is your new PVP strategy for ridding Scylla of Rebels, SHAME ON YOU!

FD is not not bugged. If I FD in a PvP I can not be DBed, but you can still shoot me and cause lots of wounds. It is not an exploit. That is just how it works and offsets the fact you can't db us.

He is just a jerk. You cant DB a feigning smuggler but you can just stand there and wound him down to 1 HAM. Its not a glitch or an exploit its meant to be that way.

^^^^^^^^

PS: I always have a commando friend of mine lay a Flame2 on anyone who feigns in PvP. Keeps them down for a good long time so they cant just be healed and right back in the fight.

You obviously never met a Doctor. 1000 wounds? They go away in 20 seconds.

Master Smugglers should have the added benefit of becoming UNTARGETABLE after a successful FD. Maybe even add "Corpse of ... " to our attacker's combat que or something. After all...we're supposed to be DEAD, there should be no reason for him to stand around and shoot at us more.

I dunno...I'm just trying to come up with some stuff to fill our EMPTY Master box.

We should beuntargetable in a FD. I believe it is a bug that keeps us targetable, and I'd like to imagine that it isn't working as intended (just like poison, fire and disease on incap)...

But, What you did is no big deal... especially since you didn't know and until the Devs fix it, there really is no way we can say that it is griefing.

Personally... I prefer to take the DB than the downtime/wounds in PvP

how does it work in pvp?

i ahve it but i am currently dying way too much times when i should have feigned death...

also what the modifiers for feign death are for?

i mean in pve they assure that you "succeed" into your feign attempt but in pvp is there a "succes" rate or a dirty fight 1 can feign as well as a rogue?

thanks for your time

I think that if you hit FD you will always drop - it was my understanding that as you have to take a hit before you drop, the higher that tree you are, the less intense the hit will be. So when at level IV, you wont get hurt as much when you drop.

But if you are in PVP, it might be handy to have a macro that clears your combat queue and unequips your armour (either strip to your undies or change to civvies) as your gear can get blown away by griefers.
