Thread: Why We Need Different Factions
At one point they abandoned the Hutt faction, because it didn't really fit. It was like, Black, White, and Airplane. The Hutts weren't a military organization so they didn't really belong in the war, and the devs had real problems figuring out faction perks and such. I remember the pre-beta boards always seemed awkward when discussing things like that.
What you see on the faction list is the remains of abandoned code.
What I'd personally like to see are two new factions, Hutt and Black Sun, that have their own kind of war (gang war) that aren't necessarily opposed to either Imperials or Rebels. I'm not the first one to bring this idea up though and I probably won't be the last.
It's a shame really, How hard would it actually be to figure out faction perks; if you really had to have them?
I love the Black-Sun idea though...
Initially i'd be happy with just being able to affiliate myself with xx faction...ofcourse there would have to be content added...but really, is this so hard to pull off? Conflict can be had PVP/RP by two rival gangs...the development team would not have to bend over backwards to get this going.
id pick up black sun affiliation in a heartbeat.

The NPC's are already in place...
"No. It's because there were originally going to be 3 factions, Imperial, Rebel, and Hutt. That's why you can pick the Hutt symbol as an avatar for this forum.

Right on, Atama! Haven't seen you since beta!
But Atama's right. I was in on the fight to keep Hutts, and have been fervantly hoping for it's inclusion at some point. I was for any underworld additions.

How come they didn't change Hutt into Black Sun? Black Sun was a para-military organization, with their own para-military forces and dominance objectives? In the Shadows of the Empire, we can clearly see how Xizor was going for Palpatine's spot.
Hutts are just lazy scheming slugs with too much money and contacts ...
Hutt and Black Sun... I've always liked that idea.
PvP is factioned. sure neutrals can go around /dueling each other, but that's not quite the same. until we see a good PvP system, we might as well only have 2 factions. those two factions are sparse enough as it is, and the reason people don't PvP isn't because they don't have a good selection of faction choices. People don't PvP because PvP in this game is fundamentally flawed.

I like this Idea, but I think it would make more sense to have a criminal-law war. So basically all the crime factions( hutt, alkara, valarien ect.) would fight all the law factionsNOT including the empire(corsec, fed-dub, RSF).

I was actually thinking that it would be rather nice to have our UnderWorld tree grant us the ability to join such factions Hut/Black Sun/Lady V etc. So every one would not be included.
But with this I would also think that there should be a Rebel Sympathizer faction/group...that would bestrictly for the RP'rs or non-combatants. These people would behave like neutrals, but get to use being a rebel in there bio(parents killed/enslaved by imperial type thing).
Neutrals are essentially sympathetic to the Empire...but now you've separated the crafters and dancers,
this should allow the development team a little more room to up the ante for those who'd like to see things be a little more difficult (increased scans) on a PVP/PVE level.
In a nutshell it separates your soldiers from your posers.
