Thread: Hopefully this post will allieviate confusion with the backpack/crate issue

What they fixed was being able to wear a backpack, and pull items out of a crate.

This allowed you to negate the mass of everything you had in a 50 carrying capacity backpack, thus giving you your original 50inventory slots.

If all you dealt with were crates of clamps, AUKs, and WUKs.. Wow... That's a hell of a lot of items in your inventory.

I noticed this several months ago. What did I say? "Hey, this looks like a bug. I can't believe they would let you have 50free item slots, and each one have the potential to be TWENTY-FIVE items that you can use. That's the equivalent of letting you carry 1250 items for free, AND having all 50 of your regular inventory slots free.

So what did I do? I stopped wearing my backpack. That's right. I have a backpack that I keep all of my crates of WUKs, AUKs, and Clamps in (I make my knives by hand, because of the knife crate bug).

I got into the game today, went to the bazaar, and bought a CDEF pistol. I selected the slice radial box, I applied my clamp, and I sliced it for a nice 25% damage (heh).

My knives in the backpack were used (not in a crate). My WUK in my backpack was used (IN a crate). My Clamp in my backpack was used (IN a crate).

The fix they made was you can't pull stuff out of crates in a container you are WEARING. This was a bug, and everyone who was doing this was essentially exploiting. No, you don't have to know it's an exploit to be exploiting. And the devs have no reason to tell you that something is an exploit. They can just fix it. Granted, it's taken them a YEAR before they fixed it. But hey, that's about the development time around here, right?

So there it is. Like it or not, you cannot have 50 crates of items in a backpack AND wear the backpack now. You'll have to do what I and the other smugglers that saw this as a bug do: Have 4-5 crates of WUKs, AUKs, and clamps in your NON-EQUIPPED backpack, and do your slicing that way.

UPDATED:

So this wasn't an issue with people trying to use items in a crate from a wearable backpack. This is an issue of people reading a patch note and taking it as gospel. The more this issue is talked about, the more it is pointing toward only being a problem with precision laser knife crates, which were bugged to begin with.

WUKs, AUKs, and clamps are still auto-pulling from crates as they always have.

Please please please people, in the future don't take the patch notes as the ultimate authority of what has changed in the game. Actually go into the game and see what's going on before you start ranting...

Having the crates in your NON-equipped backpack is good for being organized, but all you're doing is wasting an inventory slot by keeping the BP.

BUT, thanks for the info. 5 stars unless you're proved wrong buddy.

Many months ago, they made a patch that enabled autopulling from crates.

There was much rejoicing.

It was an intentional change in the past... there was no hidden glitch... No bug to address that I've ever seen.

I have acontainer of tictacs in my backpack. I open my backpack, I take out a tictac and I put it in my pocket. It's realistic.

Ah, but the issue at hand is if you want those tic tacs out of your backpack when you're WEARING it, you have to take OFF your backpack to get to it.

Unless you're a contortionist and are able to reach around behind you to unzip and pull out items.

I didn't put my backpack on to see if the slicing still worked, but with my backpack off, I'm able to pull items from the crates inside the non-worn backpack just fine. I'll load the game back up, put my slicing backpack on, and try to slice a weapon. Details to follow.

And yes, it is for organization purposes. That is the reason I use it. So if I want to quickly dump off my smuggling supplies, I can.

Ok...maybe I'm just extremely slow today...but that didn't make any sense whatsoever to me...

First...ok, you're not wearing your backpack, so it's just a container taking up more than one slot in your inventory. Therefore, you're defeating the purpose of saving space anyway.

Second...I've never had anything autopulled out of crates in the backpack I'm wearing.

Scenario:

I have a crate with a single clamp in my root inventory. Client hands me 2 weapons. I slice weapon 1 fine, single clamp is pulled and crate goes away in my root.

When I slice weapon #2 and try to apply a clamp, I get the "You must have a molecular clamp to perform this action" system message. I then drag a crate of clamps from my backpack to my root inventory, apply the clamp normally and go on about my business for 24 more slices.

I wear backpacks on one shoulder... for self defense reasons as well as a few others

I hardly require contorting myself to access contents in my backpack while wearing it, I was doing it all the time, looking for pens.

Ok Caylin, you know you're arguing semantics here now.... Was your backpack loaded with 50 CRATES of items? We could play this arguement like that all day long....

You know and I know that it was an exploitable inventory bug. They fixed the bug, and now people think it's a nerf.

And yes, I confirmed this. I put my backpack on, and was unable to pull a WUK from the crate when I was slicing.

It's never autopulled from the backpack.

That's why so many of us toss our slicing knife crates there...

Yes, in the case I'm stating, I'm not trying to 'save space' with the backpack. I'm trying to organize.

The ability to wear the backpack AND pull items out of a crate was a bug. They fixed it. Now you can wear the backpack to free up space, but you gotta take it off to use the items in it, which means you need to have the inventory space available to remove it.

Alright, then I'm not understanding what people are bitching about.

If it's never auto-pulled from a wearable backpack, then what is the problem?

I just did two slices, and it auto-pulled the WUK and the clamp from my crates that were in a non-worn backpack for organization....

So what is this issue that people are having?

When were you able to pull items from a crate in a backpack you were wearing? I have never been able to do this. Nor has anyone I have talked to.

When you have crates just sitting in your inventory, not your backpack, you can just head over to the weapon/armor, and start slicing.

Items will be removed automagikally as they are required. However, it would not use the charges on laser knives correctly. It would treat a 10 as a single charge knife.

With this change, as it is written, they want to remove that capability so we have to manually click everything out. We've done it in the past, but it's a pain in the neck. It's not so muchan issue with equippedbackpacks, we would use them to store our laser knives, so we would control how fast they were being pulled from their crates.

He apparently has backpacks sitting in his main inventory that are not equipped. In that situation, yes, the items would still be autopulled from the backpacks.

It's not granting new inventory space, as equipped ones would, it just helps organise.
