Thread: A Thought About Our Entertainer Friends

Okay, the news of the CURB changes to Entertainer is, to say the least, annoying many of my friends, who are, you guessed it, Entertainers. With the creation of buffbots, Entertainers have had about the same amount of content in the game as us. Many of those who took up the profession because they wanted to(not those who wanted a convenient 24-hour buffer for thier main character), are now having what is already reduced to slightly above buff-bot only is now getting whittled away even further by the fact that characters will no longer even need to choose to apply manually, instead, it happens automatically. I'm no longer an entertainer and this still pisses me off. I personally HATE buff-bots, and never use them. Instead, I'd strike up deals with the Novice Entertainer, who's actually playing, standing five feet away and give them several times what the bot keeps asking.

Seriously. The entertainer professions are being delegated into something that no longer needs anyone behind a computer to operate except to set them up and get them going. Please help my friends and all entertainers who actually want to actively entertain, plea to the devs to find ways of making it so that these characters have to be controled to a marginal extent to make them effective and usefull; and ask that they find a way to eradicate buff-bots.

Personally, my favorite method to remove the bot equation would be to make auto-AFK status five minutes for everyone, then disable buffs while the character giving them is in the AFK state, so even if macros remain looping, it just won't work, without the use of 3rd party programs, in which case, the player risks cancellation of the account and banning of the credit card number. And if all possible, I'd like to kick each and every single one of thier asses personally, but I doubt SOE would give me any addresses.

Lastly, I find it disheartening that the devs seem to wanna take professions which have great potential for role-play, and then make it so difficult to actually role-play with that profession, much less find an actual person behind the character. No, its not just disheartening, its bordering on malicious intent upon one's own customers.

Agree

When I need bf healing, I'll always ask 'Any non-afkers in need of the xp?'. I do use mind buffbots, despite the fact that I loathe afk, but they are just too damned convenient, with mind buffs sometimes being essential as things stand. But with the proposed changes andInspiration buffs being now optional, I say ye, any move that would kill afk buffing gets my vote.

There's a nice proposal by Warryyr in that thread which could work, and also another that ties the credit tips directly to the /setperform command, combined, they would do very much to eliminate both buffbots and the 'ME TIP YU? LOLOLOBYE' customers.

I agree totally. As you can tell by my signature, my alternate character is an entertainer. No, she is not a bot and I have never given an AFK buff, not once. I have been looked at strangely for being a Smuggler and an Entertainer. I guess some people consider me a masochist, hehe.

But I agree, just as most everything else that has been passed down for Ents, Inspiriation Buffs are a wonderful concept. The problem is, they suffer from bad implementation. If you want to truly help the entertainment community, go to the In Concept thread about Insp. Buffs and post. Don't be negative, don't be mean, be constructive and give good feedback. Why will these work, why not? What can/should be changed to make them better? Etc.

Even if you don't post though, your support of Live Entertainment is appreciated.

I have an alt entertainer I rarely play for that very reason.

Sony has refused to address this problem satisfactory and, as you stated, even made it easier for the buf bots.

I'd like to see something as simple as a window that requires interactivity, or even have the performer have to use commands while doing the buff then have those commands somehow not able to be done with a macro.

You know how websites sometimes have the "type the message you see below" and it is a word that looks messed up to prevent auto-fillers, hacks and whatnot???? Maybe something like that. A window pops up every 15 secs and says type "Wookiee Hangover" and if you don't type it in 10 secs you stop performing and sit.

Yeah, this should be posted in the Ent forum....but I was thought-streaming.

Thanks for posting this thread Nick.

The only true way to help them out is to make it impossible to run a recursive macro while dancing or playing music. Make the buff experience a little more interactive requiring someone to be at the keyboard..such as having a "Image Design" type interface between customer and performer.

Heh, I've seen a musician, and not only are the Ents some of the finest people in the game, they have been royally hosed time and again. Personally I feel Smugglers and Ents are linked in a way. Very rp-friendly profs, who are looked upon by other profs as shoe-shiners. Both profs have been promised more content and even the Hutt Casino, a content-rich poi for both Smugglers and Ents

Always good to see smugglers defending ents and vice versa

Keckerdoodles!!!

gotcha!

okay, now onto the point:

I'm solidly behind the smugglers and have been for a while, I just got a new account recently and am making her into a BH/Smug/some-other-stuff. I love the fact that we oppressed and overlooked professions stick together rather than devolving into a 'my profession sucks worse than yours, so quit whining' mentality (see any number of posts on jedi/BH forums). The docs released for upcoming smuggler changes look really interesting and should add some exciting content and flexibility to the smugglers. As is the case with the new entertainer buffs, both are good concepts who's implementation should be careful studied and given feedback on, I hope to offer whatever I can for you all, but I don't have the long-suffering experience with smuggling so maybe it will be more of an 'outsiders view' for a while.

well to be honest I hate all macros combat, entertainer, healing, etc all should leave the game

now that being said I think if entertainers look at this a bit differently they will see its not so bad. First you have to find the two real reasons for the afk entertainer.

1 initially it was the rediculous holo grind.

2 and more importantly the buff bot. The need for a mind buff overwhelmingly increased the need for an entertainer. so much so that there was no real pupose in doing alot of things in this game without amind buff.

Now like always soe went and did what was asked they gave entainers a purpose now there needs to be balance. They went and made the need for entertainers so great that people now need to have them all the time....hence the buff bots. now they are making a move to do away with most of that which i think most of the true entertainers will find is a nice change.

You know back in the begining my friends and I used to wind down a group hunt with hanging out in the cantinas with some music, dance and some jawa beer. Now a days it takes 20 mins to even get going with a need for a buff and a mind buff and such...

I think when you remove a bit of the need you will see the removal of the afk bots and true entertainers can get back to well entertaining maybe setting up a play night in the cantina. RP or not its really kinda fun just to sit and chat in game....a bit like the forums really

As most peoples already said ,I love the Inspiration buffs but fear the increased "bottability" of it.

I think macros have a place in this game, to automatise repetitive task and prevent carpal tunnel syndrom. Like the buying faction macro, or one key "I'm in combat, bug me later" macro, only to name a few.

However, AFK macroing is another thing. I agree, automated buff giving and healing and automated combat (!!!) should not be possible. I know the Devs have talked since a long while to solve that issue, something aboutu putting restriction on recursive macros I think. Idea is, not penalise good legitimate use of macros while making abuse of them impossble. Not easy to do.lol Been a while since they talked about it, curious to see what they will do.

Anyway, gonna post later today on the Inspiration buffs thread.
