I'm an Imperial, and a Smuggler. At least, one character is. I have another Imperial in the making, and a potential Rebel. What I'm wondering is if you think the YT-1300, or indeed the YT-2400 (if the rumours are true) is worth saccrificing my TIE Fighter for. I like TIEs, and think they're pretty cool. But, I am aiming for a second Imp character. Are the smuggling possibilities of the YT enough to warrant me choosing the middle path, that lands me with Hutt Fighters at best?

I'm not sure if there's any way to answer this until we see the (legendary and possibly fictitious) revamp next year. The POSSIBILITIES of a YT-series for a smuggler is great, and it jives with our general persona more than being locked into one side of some profitless "war," but it's quite possible that one's faction and maybe even one's ship will have no impact on one's ability to smuggle. Assuming we ever get such an ability in the first place. So, I'd wait on any big decisions until we have any idea how all this is going to play out.

That said, if being Imperial is going to interfere with my smuggling runs (and assuming I'm still around, big if big if), I'd dump my faction faster than Han dumped Jabba's spice.

ya know, if they would let master smugglers be the only ones who could take off or land directly at any shuttleport, not just starports, that might make it useful to be a smuggler in a multiperson transport. That way, even people who owned ships might want to occasionally hire a smuggler to get them from player city A on naboo directly to player city B on lok, without having to 'go through customs' at any starport, or the hassle of riding their speeder 6k from the closest starport to where they are going. There could even be varying chances for success, based on smuggler/pilot level, that were checked when you entered orbit, to decide if you 'got passed traffic control' and were allowed to go directly to any shuttleport, or were forced to land at a starport...hmm...just a thought

I thought that I heard the DEV's say that non-factional ships like the YT-1300, YT-2400 (if true) would be available to all factions. So, you could be an IMP, Rebel, or Privateer Smuggler and still have a YT-1300.

So you can have your cake and eat it too

You needn't worry. According to the lastest info, the YT1300 is a multi-factional ship. All three factions will have access to this ship.

They're also going to be allowing ownership of more than one ship.

Therefore as an Imperial, you will be able to have a YT1300 AND a TIE.

As a Rebel, you will be able to have a YT1300 AND an X-Wing.

As a Neutral (Privateer, whatever), you will be able to have a YT1300 AND a Hutt Fighter.

Possibly more, as they haven't decided how many ships they're going to allow us to have. 3-5 is the range they're working with right now, I believe (and the Vet ship doesn't count against this number, but you won't be able to put the very best parts in it, I hear).

No one knows about any smuggler content involved with the space expansion. Not even the correspondents.

I'm not worried about whether, as an Imperial, I'll be able to get the YT. That's a sure thing. What I am worried about is if a YT will cost me a TIE. The YT and the Hutt Fighters are in the Privateer profession. TIEs are (surprisingly) in the Imperial Pilot profession. You can only have one pilot profession. For me, its either Imp Pilot or Private (you can't go Rebel Pilot as an Imp). I do want a YT-1300, but is it that good to warrant me giving up Imperial Pilothood? Should I go for a YT, and get stuck flying Hutt Fighters, or do I go for a TIE, and make do with the Vet Reward ship (if/when I ever get it), or wait and hope they add factional Multi-Persons?

I wonder if any of you agree...the current proposed system is biased towards NON-Faction aligned people...yet this expansion is supposed to make the GCW better. In fact, the Rebels seem to be doing pretty well out of it too. If you are a neutral, you can choose to get your hands on a TIE, or on a Rebel fighter. That begs the question "How the hell did they pull that off" from a Roleplay point of view, but SOE gave up on the RP in MMORPG a while ago, it seems. Rebel roleplayers shouldn't have a problem choosing either Rebel Pilot or Privateer...they'll fly whatever the heck they can get their hands on. But for an Imperial roleplayer, who IS a member of Imperial Staff (don't forget that you earn the rank "Private" as soon as you sign up to the Imp Faction), there's no way you'd go in anything other than a TIE Fighter...at least, when you're on duty. I suppose I can go for a TIE with my strictly-roleplay Imp character...its just that, cool as the Hutt Fighters look, I can't really go overt and fly on the side of the Imps in it...it just wouldn't be right. It'd be ok as a personal ship, but Imps aren't gonna want a stinky Hutt Fighter flying on its side, are they?

I know that the Vet ship is a multi-person too, and I know Lando used it as a smuggling ship...but it just isn't the same. If you see a YT-series Transport, you instantly think Smuggler. From that point of view, going Privateer is most in tune with my Smuggler side. But the Imperial Warrant Officer in me doesn't want to go with that. Unless the devs fix the problem, I'm gonna have to choose between Imperial Pilot and Privateer...which boils down to TIE or YT. Which should I pick? Will the Vet ship be enough?

I don't want to burts anyone bubble, but I thought the Vet Reward was a "Model of a ship". Meaning a wondeful decoration for our homes. If I am wrong, please enlighten me, but I'm fairly sure the anouncement said "MODEL".

Quoted from the front page:

"Veteran players will receive the deed of a multi-passenger ship model when Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed launches. "

It's a deed. A deed is for a structure, vehicle, or in this case, a ship.

The word "model" is just referring to the "SoroSuub Personal Luxury Yacht 3000 " . That is the 'model' of the ship.

There are missions in which you "deliver an item while hostiles attack you" in every profession. I still don't consider [Smuggler's Alliance] pilots to be Smugglers, nor 'Smuggling' - at least not any more than Rebel Pilots or Imperial Pilots might sometimes "smuggle", with a lower-case s - JFreeman - 10/6/04

As Renn and I both stated earlier...

The YT-1300 is a cert for all factions (Imperial, Rebel, and Privateer). So you will not have to give up your Imperial faction to fly a YT-1300.

The only thing I'm contemplating is giving up my Imperial rank and faction to go privateer because I really like the looks of the Hutt fighters.

Yep. As we said, ALL factions can have a YT1300, so there is no need to "give up" your TIE to have a YT1300. Have both!

I see there is another who decides on ships by the looks. Not surprising in a Smuggler, as we all know, style is the most important thing.

The Light Hutt Fighter's ok, the Medium looks pretty nice. I don't know about the Heavy one, though. Question is, does that Medium one beat the look of an X-Wing? Something to think about. I may end up resigning from the Rebellion just to pilot that Medium Hutt Fighter...

Cool, I guess that is better news than I originally thought.
