Edit: The quote below indicates that Rangers could end up having missions designed to prevent Smugglers from successfully delivering their cargo (albeit for specific Smuggling missions with which the player is informed of the Ranger threat before accepting it).

You won't be able to PvP steal from other players when the system launches. It is supported, but content hasn't been created to make us of this capability yet. If/When the content does go in, it will probably be more in the direction of the Bounty-Hunter/Jedi relationship - where someone (a smuggler, just for instance) would consent to carrying a stealable item (some illegal spice, just for instance), knowing another player will get a mission to try and come steal it from them. It's almost like a game of capture the flag (gotta write that one down!).

You won't, however, be able to take anything from anyone's normal inventory.
For now, though - it's strictly a PvE ability (with the possibility of a PvP component down the line).

Sounds like an interesting skill, however I don't really see the point of having it. Especially if all you are going to get is the same money/items that you would normally get killing them.

Couple of questions though:

1. Person #1 stealths to a NPC and successfully steals from it. Person #2 comes up not knowing that Person #1 is there and kills the NPC. Does Person #2 get anything for thier troubles?

2. Does this skill apply only to NPC humanoid types and non-animals? If animals/creatures are included all I have to say is.......Krayt Graveyard will be filled with players we will never see.

3. Will the steal ability be useable on quest based characters (Grevious, etc.)? God I hope not.

1) yes the do stealing will not affect anything they may be looted from killing the npc

2) i would say NPCs only as you cant reach into a krayts pockets to steal stufff from them cna you

3) i pray to god not but knowing the devs it wont matter who you steal from it will only ever give you ever 20-500c or some crudy loot thing that you cna loot of lvl 1 npcs

The way Helios explained what's available on NPCs that can be stolen is that each has a limited number of small bags on them, each containing different loot items (presumably some good, some not so useful); There are a limited number on each NPC, so once all the bags have been stolen, there won't be any more until the NPC is killed (assuming it respawns).

These bags are only on NPCs and are completely seperate from what someone would receive for killing the NPC.

sounds like a cool addition. Smuggler takes mission, Ranger steals cargo, Smuggler gets a Bounty, Bounty Hunter hunts down Smuggler and/or Ranger

What I dont like about this is the smuggler... someone who is supposed to be able to deliver an item illicitly and by stealth (dictionary definition), ends up walking through the city carrying his cargo, plain as day, while the guy asked to steal it can use his stealth holomijig to go invisible and snatch it out of his pocket.

Not that rangers SHOULDN'T have this skill. But smugglers really need something akin to it to make sure this possible encounter isn'ttotally one-sided.

I still stand by the fact that we musthave the skillsto try and AVOID encounters whenever possible. 'Tis the smuggler way.

I have4 comments at this point.

1. We better be next.

2. Sneaking around, fine, stealing fine. What I'm trying to figure out at this point is why, since Rangers are not direct combat related like us, do they not get more combat moves. This does not bode well for us at all. It makes me think that we are pretty much screwed.I've been waiting to see how they handle Ranger as an indicator for us. They gave us way too much direct combat related skills. We're either gonna get them pulled, or we're gonna get a minimal smuggling system.

3. WHY THE HELL CAN'T WE GET A REVAMP?!?!?!?! Seriously, they "don't" want to focus onlarge scale profession revamps, yet others are getting them. Once again, the rule that is applied to us, is never applied to the rest of the game. Wes, this IS a question that needs to get answered at this point. They've now brought theft into the game. Having a smuggling system SHOULD not be that far off. Better yet, they say PvP theft is supported, so PfP smuggling SHOULD now be supported (at least in the minds of the team).

4.They are STILL only talking about spice as a smuggled item. That means a singular smuggling system that will do nothing but drive down the demand for spice since the cost will become higher. Not only that, but the only thing they talk about stealing is from a smuggler. So we're finally gonna get a smuggling system, where we can't really smuggle for the player base, but we can have it stolen from us by players?

I got nothin but love for the Rangers. This has nothing to do with them. What the dev team has announced has brought nothing but additional questions and concerns for this profession. Once again, we're left hanging. Left with an answer that only applies to us (no more revamps). Left with only meaningless references to a singular, pointless smuggling system that we've been begging for for over 2 years, that everyday we lose hope of getting.

My only question is, if a Ranger starts stealing my cargo do I get to shoot 'em?

We better get to shoot them. Hell, they better give us something better than just spice to smuggle if we're gonna have to deal with players stealing from us.

Stealing, no not really. Unless it's stealing an identity or the key/code to something we have to get past... but we have slicing for that if it were ever implemented properly.

What's troubling is 2 fold:

1. They're still only talking about really smuggling spice.

2. They're talking about us being content for Rangers. I have no problem being content for another profession, but give it a better reasoning than stealing spice from me. Make em take missions to interrupt me smuggling for someone's rival. Make it something worthwhile, not just "as part of the new smuggling missions, Rangers can steal spice from Smugglers running said missions".
