Exactly. Which is why I suspect that this Combat Upgrade thing could go terribly wrong in the same manner in which the current combat system (and the whole game design) went wrong. Not caring enough about the 'starwarsiness' factor, and not predicting the actions of powergamers and players who are in it just to 'pwn' others, whether in PvP or in other ways.
If they manage to fix the whole melee/ranged imbalance - great. If they add new factional armor - even better. But, since melee won't be 'uber' anymore, this means all the 'l33t' PvPers will switch to Jedi, and instead of encouraging people to, for example, use Stormtrooper armor and blasters, as it is intended, they will just encourage the hardcore PvPers who don't already have a Jedi character to get one. It will make all the potential 'casual' PvPers who want to do it in a starwarsy manner totally useless in combat against the 'l33t' Jedi hordes, just as a roleplaying Stormtrooper squadron with proper Star Wars weapons is currently useless against two hammer-wielding melee stackers.
This will, of course, ruin the immersiveness of the gameworld even more than it is ruined now, and most of the features in the CU, which could potentially be very cool, won't even be used by anyone, just like some of the best in-game items and features aren't used right now.
Cynicism? Maybe. We'll see, I guess.

Maybe this will mean a master pistoleer/master smuggler, can be effective without having to have an uber geo. Lets face it folks a master of pistols that is also a master of underhanded tactics should be better then it is now. We may now have PvP respect. Boy with the Dot pikemen mellee stackers be pissed

Glad you all like it so far
. I can't wait for you to hear more so I can discuss stuff with you! No idea when that'll be mind
.
As for the power gamers moving to Jedi enmass, that's certainly a concern that's been bobbing around in my mind recently; I'll be sure to make the concern known once we get testing and we see what'swhat
.

Key things that really caught my eye,
Increased range maybe this means that pistol users any in the room. Will get a little more distance to work with. Can I hear a amen.
No more range damage immunity, All I can say is about damned time.
All the weapons useable in combat. Maybe just maybe someone will get to use the beamrifle. Maybe we will get some more pistols that can cut through armor.
New ways to recover from attacks. Maybe something for disease and poison we can always wish.
Any guesses on a smugglers new role in combat? This has me really curious.
Anyone understand the new death and incapacitation rules. What is this about grouping with other players increaseing some overall stat such as defense? Anyone got a clue.
Three chears for the poster.

Are we considered a combat profession? I mean, we only have the one tree.
