LordMaxx, the pistoleer correspondant made this comment in regards to a discussion on stopping shot:

"would be nice...but smugglers also already have a pistol KD...and they have the warcry-like shot also...and the only way you are going to reasonably use stopping shot with a DE-10 is if you have the speed mods of a bounty hunter...

Im really itching to see if we can bring Pistol back to the pistoleers and out of the hybrid's hands..."

I think you might want to ask him about what he meant by this, as I don't think we need to lose any more of our profession. Losing our pistol specials would be the death nell.

Sure thing, I'll go ask him, but I'm pretty sure what he means. Having said that, I'm not going to go put words into his mouth

It has never been my intention to diminish Smugglers or Bounty Hunters. The unfortunate truth is that Pistoleer by itself is a very weak profession. It takes the Accuray, Speed Mods, and Specials from both BH and Smuggler to really make us into something powerful.

BHs get true pistol speed mods and some VERY good specials. And Smugglers also get some Very nice specials. We the pistoleers with no hybrid addons are left with a very short list of actual working and worthwhile specials. Stopping shot is a joke if you dont have the BH speed mods, we are mainly left with Health Shot 2 a moderate damage pool specific shot, and Fan Shot a moderate damage cone shot. Multi-target pistol shot is nice too, but if you dont have the speed mods of a BH its not really worth it.

It has always been my intention and my purpose to make pistoleer a Strong standalone profession...I dont even want to take anything from the Hybrids (except maybe some speed mods to help us) but that would be up to the Bounty Hunters to be concerned over. Pistoleers need a revamp more than anyone...it really hasnt been noticed as a broken class because most people usually take BH or Smuggler to supplement the fact that we really have no power on our own. Carbines could be said to be in the same crowd, but they got a nice special revamp and have several Very nice working specials, even if their speed mods are worst than ours. So I think they have a leg up (no pun intended) on us. And Riflemen...well they are the King right now because mind is where its at...

So my statement was mainly to emphasize how the pistoleer class is NOT very playable in its current state unless you take one or even both of the hybrids that add to its ability.

If I offended you I am sorry, but my position is locked in stone. Pistoleers need help and we want in the pistoleer trees not from other sources.

True you guys have been needing your revamp for a while too...I wont say that other professions arent borked...

This game first and foremost is about combat. Everything in the game is geared towards getting the tools into the hands of the fighters. And then there are all the other RP and submersion/storyline things to distinguis this game from others.. We have 3 main ranged combat professions, 1 is working great. 1 Needs some tweaks and 1 just downright doesnt work by itself...I guess the reasoning is two-fold A. We do have hybrid professions to jack our skills up, so its ok. and B. All issues will be addressed in the CU/R/B and I guess they will.

Im very excited about the smuggler revamp. When I played in beta 3 I wanted to be a weaponsmith/smuggler...but unfortunately I wasnt smuggling anything, so I know your pain. But I will, of course, put the needs of my community (all pistol users) before any other profession and I just feel that we have been left with a bum deal for long enough.

Im not saying you guys havent either...I've been there. But as pistoleer correspondent I have to show my community how I feel..and I do feel that Pistoleers should be first and foremost...Bio Engineers would disagree...but thats why we have correspondents for everyone

i don't think we're here to start an argument about who's the more in need of some love.

The fact is that both profession are broken, they both need revamps, they both need love, and they are among the most iconic professions, and they are the most forgotten by the devs.

Wondering who's the most in need of attention will not bring attention sooner, so let's not get into this way.

On a side note, a pistoleer needs smugglers DF skills to gain some efficiency, smugglers need pistoleers skill mods to be able to land a shot once in a while, so we still are in need of each other, and i do find it a good thing this way, even if i perfectly agree that the pistoleers specials need to be at least working sometimes.

Based on my pistol use I will say that next to melee it is pointless which is just wrong. As a master pistoleer and master smuggler I still dont use pistols much and that for sure needs to be fixed. Maybe Im off base in saying this but it seems the CU should fix this issue as many people are saying ranged needs to be as good if not better then melee. In turn I wouldthink they will fix the pistoleer specials during this time. I dont think you need to take away skills/mods from other professions, we are hurting as well and robbing Peter to pay Paul does not usually work to well in the long term. I respect where you are comming from and hope pistoleer does in fact become more viable.

This one's somewhat close to my heart; Yes, a great pistol user should be looking to have Pistoleer, BH and Smuggler, just as anyone looking to be a great combatant will look to combine combat professions as best they can. However, Pistoleer costs the same about of SP, requirements and all, as every other elite combat profession and as such should be just as capable in combat. That's what I'm after as a pistoleer, that's what I'm after asa Smuggler with a tripple master template.

Don't take LordMaxx's coments as an attack on us or an attempt to remove abilities from our profession; As he says, he's just looking out for his profession and the people in his community. I can fully understand and emathpise with that

Took the words out of my mouth. I dont think pistoleers should have to use more skill points to be on par with other combat professions. And yes you guys need pistoleer stuff to be able to use your specials of course, but you are a hybrid for that reason.

I do think this will be addressed in the curb. My original comments were made with the curb in mind. As I hope so will the smugglers and bounty hunters. I love the triple master template it was one of my favorites, but right now, and during the curb ill focus on pure pistoleer first, then see how it stacks up with different templates. And hopefully my input will help as will Wes' and Tanks' input as well as everyone elses.

In the end I understand balance...balance between all the main combat professions, and their supporting classes. right now Pistoleers are not balanced. Neither are riflemen...but they are on the upper side of balance, as pistoleers are on the lower. and I am focused on that being fixed with the CURB. Its not a matter of saying, who needs more help...right now with the CURB on the horizon its a matter of fixing everything and acheiving the balance between the professions.

In no way do I want power taken FROM the smugglers... I want all the professions to be playable and fun, and balanced.

I agree 100% Pistoleer needs to be just a capable in combat as any other combat profession. My only point is that Carb's (for example) is a strong stand alone profession yet you can still add to it with other profession carb lines. My responce was only to the fact that LordMaxx wanted to remove that option in order to improve Pistoleer (seems that way). I think pistoleer needs to be fixed for sure just not at the expence of other professions, not an attack just a different perspective, is all. I respect 10000000% where LordMaxx is comming from and support the need for a pistol re-vamp

a mix of combat into hybrids was my only point and I agree with all your points. Mellee is to over powered against range and rifle is to over powered against pistols, I think we are on the same page over all, lol. /bow

I think the answer to the problem we are discussing is simple.

Make Pistoleer be a combat profession that can stand on it's own. Put skills instead of mods (speed, accuracy) in the BH and Smuggler professions. Give evasive tools to the smuggler, and give ensnaring or special targeting skills (effective against Jedi)tools to the BH. Give Pistoleer all of the mods, as well as powerful and well rounded specials for combat.

Before anyone notices that both smuggler and BH have no mods to make them worthwhile or easier to grind, just put significant mods in the Novice box of pistoleer that would make it easier on players of all three professions to earn xp.

This way, you will not have the discrepancy in skill mods between BH and Smuggler, you won't have the need to compliment Pistoleer in order to be effective, and you will not have to grind out millions of pistol xp with little to no skill mods to help (as is the case with Smuggler).

I agree with LordMaxx, Pistoleer NEEDS to be a standalone profession. Just put all the mods and stalwart specials in Pistoleer and put the specials that can be used as tools in the BH and Smuggler profession.

For example about the BH and Smuggler specials, let Smugglers have a special that puts a ranged intimidate on a single opponent, thereby cutting their damage in half and buying the smuggler time. Change the ranged KD to a special KD that would keep them an enemy on the ground for 2-3 seconds... which would allow the smuggler to buy distance from an attacker (if you got shot in the groin, you would stay down for a second or two anyways). This special KD would be sorta like a dizzy/KD, but without the dizzy, and without being able to keep a player down idefinitly. Also, allow smuggler to pull speeders in combat. They could duck behind a wall, pull a speeder, then get away!!!

BH's could retain their burn special, which can be stacked up to three times btw... Their bleedshot is also nice, but could be made better since pistols really got nerfed hard with the bleed changes back in the day. Their eyeshot is nice, and I feel that is also a good skill to retain. What are important to BH's are the DoT's they can put on someone, especially the hard to hit Jedi. What is also important to BH's are the states they put a player in to control them, but they can do that with their carbine specials.

Pistoleer needs all of the mods themselves if it is going to be the central profession on which BH and Smugglers depend on.

Of course, there was talk that Smuggler would be able to use their specials with any weapon, so pistol mods would be utterly useless anyways.

If Pistoleer gets fixed to be comparable to Rifleman, then pistol hybrids will still be better than ordinary Pistoleers. So, you still won't find too many pure Pistoleers. Probably just some crafters that like to go hunting once in a while, maybe some CH or Ranger types.

Since you have to assume that Pistoleer is going to be made into a hybrid, from a certain perspective it has to be a bit weaker than other professions. Otherwise, you've turned the tables on the Riflemen, but not fixed the balance.

There are a couple of ways to fix this... You could make BH use Rifle instead of Pistol, so that Smuggler/Pistol hybrids are offset by BH/Rifle and BH/Carbine hybrids. The downside to that would be that nobody can do the Jango BH/Pistol thing any more.

The other way I can think of, would be to change BH so that LLC is a Rifle skill -- so BH have Investigation, Pistol, Carbine, Rifle lines, and can hybrid with any ranged combat class as a ranged combat master. BH would still getplenty ofbonuses, making them offensive masters, if a little predictable. Then change Smuggler to require any one Brawler skill and any one Ranged skill. Allow Smuggler DF (and the proposed melee specials) to work with certified ranged or melee weapon. Give a couple of points of defense to Smugglers, and a couple of general ranged and melee bonuses, but not anywhere near a BH. So, Smugglers would become the infinitely variable "do what works" hybrid profession. Not nearly as beefy on the offense as a BH, but with a much more varied bag of tricks they can put together.

I personally like the second solution better -- gives lovin' to the BH, lets the Smugglers do interesting permutations, and allows all three ranged weapon types to be balanced against each other, because none of them will have to stand against hybrids of the other two.

(Of course, this can all be filed under "yeah, right"... We'll see how the CU goes.)
