I did several slices and master level weapons. Every damage slice I got said 16% damage increase, but the numbers worked out to a 5% slice.Every speed slice I got said 5% and worked out to 1% so there is definately something not right I get the feeling we will get ignored during the CU since we supposedly have a revamp coming but I won't hold my breath. The CU as is makes me not want to play at all so I hope they scrap it and start again.

Reposting these numbers from another thread. Multiple slices were done of each type of weapon to ensure consistency.

Pre-slice stats/Post-slice stats
Reported damage increase/Real damage increase min-max

DE-10
351-701/376-742
20%/7.1-5.8%

DL44 XT
351-701/378-746
16%/7.7-6.4%

CDEF Pistol
28-56/30-59
22%/7.1-5.4%

Scout Blaster
70-140/75-150
12%/7.1-7.1%

D18
34-68/37-73
10%/8.8-7.4%

Now some crafted weapon testing to see if it scales

Crafted D18
23-61, 2.45 speed
27% speed/6.1%

Crafted D18
23-61/28-68
13% damage/22-15%

Comments/issues:

- Slicing % is fixed for a given weapon
- The % increase is determined by the stats of that weapon
- The reported slice % is not the real slice %

(edit)Slicing seems to be pretty broken. The numbers it gives do not line up with the results at all. and armor slicing does't take effect till after server reset.

I've been running through slicing here and there when I get a chance over the last couple days and here is what I've come up with so far. All weapons I recorded info for where master level weapons.

Some initial notes:

  • All my test materials were frog supplied.

  • The lower level weapons will get higher slices (I only used master level weaps to test).

  • There is no more randomness other than speed/damage. Its a set slice, period.

  • Armor slicing only improves its effectiveness (all protections) at the cost of a slight increase in hindrances.

  • I wasn't able to nail down the exact formula for the hindrance increase, but percentage-wise seemed like it was twice to three times as much as the effectiveness increase (17% effect increase resulted in a 53% increase in hindrances)

Slicing 2
Weapons: 12% damage or 1% speed

Slicing 3
Weapons: 12% damage or 1% speed
Basic Armor: 17% effectiveness
Standard Armor: 9%
Advanced Armor: 1%

Slicing 4
Weapons: 14% damage or 3% speed
Basic Armor: 19% effectiveness
Standard Armor: 11%
Advanced Armor: 3%

Master
Weapons: 16% damage or 5% speed
Basic Armor: 23% effectiveness
Standard Armor: 15%
Advanced Armor: 7%

Some final notes:

  • Speed slices were always worse than their couterpart damage slices. Damage slices always ended up with better DPS

  • The hindrance increases, while they seemed relatively high, only made an additional 1-3% hindrance over what you were certed for, so probably will not be much of an obstacle to getting high end stuff sliced.

  • There was no improvement in weapon slicing between slicing 2 and 3

  • I would love to get in touch with some armorsmiths and weapons smiths to work out theoretical maximums for some weapons and armors

  • Fishbrains/Joras will be doing a more comprehensive writeup with the specifics of around 500 or so slices Soon(tm).

Update: Slicing calculations are completely wrong. A supposed 16% damage slice on a 387-775 dmg weapon resulted in a 416-824 dmg weapon = a 6% increase. apparently its doing the % based on minimum damage.

ive respected to master smuggler a few days ago, and yesterday was my first armor slice (i just craft a 6965 energy mabari) and when i slice it, the system message taold me " Efectiveness 7%", but when i look at the efectiveness, is just the same, nothing changed.. is this another bug?

thanks

yes this is a bug. You won't see the results of the slice for a while, but you will see them. My bet is next server reset.

Ok. Well after I hopped on to TC4(which happens to be my server, bloodfin, Yay!) did some fighting, and thought to do a slice. I only had one weapon on me to slice. was a crappy DL44 with like a 40-100 damage range.

Still absorbing what all the stats mean and what not but this is my result. Speed Slice at 46%. I had to do a double take. Not sure what the ranges are supposed to be. I did think enough to take a screen shot of the message though. However I don't remember what the speed was before the slice. afterwards it was somewhere's around 2.5 or so.

You should see if you can get more weapons and see if it's consistent.

It was my understanding that there is a soft cap on weapon damage with the new system, so If you have a higher level weapon, or one made with tissues, it'll be closer to the cap, so when you slice it, it can't get too much better... hence the 3-4% slices.... Anyways, that was my understanding, or has it been decided that was just another way to screw smuggler, and hence renamed a bug?

So Wes, what do you know about the future of slicing? Is the current system on CU going to stay for a while or are they talking about the revamp system of slicing any time soon? It seems the CU system is pretty buggy and needs a lot of work. What have they told you about what's going on with slicing? I plan on slicing some stuff on test soon so I'll get some results soon too.

There is a cap on weapons and armor currently. I personally suspect this will remain because one of the many balancing things they're trying to do with CU is keep everyone at about the same level equipment wise.

All armor currently slices at 7%. This number doesn't vary, or at least it hasn't on any of the 8 sets of armor I've sliced for people dueling on TC since they enabled slicing.

I also noticed before the weapon revamp the weapons too were only sliceable at 7% but this changed with the weapon revamp. Now I'm getting better slices, a lot of 30% ones, but these slices will not ever bring the weapon up to what it was a few days ago (pre-nerf).

(I have to chuckle at the idea that players are already hoarding pre-nerf weapons on the TC)

Anyways, player crafted weapons are much closer to the damage cap and therefore you're not going to see any high percentage slices on them. Whether this changes or not is unknown of course.

As for Spices, they are easily the best BUFF food around. No stomach issues, lasts 15 minutes, and the downer seems to be overshortly afterthe time it takes for your toon to animate throwing up. I personally hope they don't change this. I also don't see any real balancing issues since everyone has access to buy spice. So anyone can run around with crates of pixie and staying 20% buffed literally at all times.

I for one welcome having spice be useful. Slicing may not be as useful however, which does suck. But in the interests of balance, I do understand the need to keep weapons "consistant" and not have some "uber" rifle doing thousands of points in damage.

I made a master smuggler on tcep3 2 nights ago and sliced about 50 weapons and every one of the slices were either 15% speed or 30% damage range. all weapons and resources came from the frog.

I was messing around with master WS on TC Ep3 the other night, and I kept recieving the same message...

"The stats on this weapon exceed the maximum for this item, the crafting tool has adjusted the stats for the prototype"

Or something like that... I mostly ran into this issue with the wound mod.. I was getting 46-37% and on the DL44 XT it's capped at 26%.. I also got my damage around the same as the prenerf frog weapons, which are supposed to be near the weapon's max..... So, when this comes to live, with the caps the way they are, I don't see slicing working to very well, as on live my WS resources, and other WS resources are much much better than what is on the frogs on TC... not to mention the extra 2 points od experimentation that a 12 pointer has...

So, I think they need to either raise the soft cap on weapons damage, or make an exception for slicing.. because with weapon caps, this makes slicing kinda obsolete, as the weapons can already be made at their cap... and that's not even mentioning krayt tissues....

just a thought... I hope they don't wait for the smuggler's revamp to fix this..... but I'm sure they will. So, two years before it's fixed.. yay

I imagine slicing is going to get the nerf pretty bad think about the weapon you just sliced 775 max dmg a 35% slice would get you 1046 dmg

the thing is slicing is by percentage so the higher the damage the higher the damage slice potential....I don't see anyone toting around 1k dmg pistols for very long

you have a good point....I dont want a cookie cutter weapon, I want a weapon that will be unique from most if not all other weapons of its type.

Sliced a wide range of weapons, from the inital issue CDEFs to DX2. The CDEFs all slice 15% damage to 30% Speed. The high end weapons all sliced 5% flat. My guess is that there is a max limit on weapons and once you get there you are there and nothing can do to help you. Takes some of the fun out of the game.
