Really this would do alot ot add the flavor the movies had.
I have a few suggestions on how to make it work.
1. All overt imperials would be given the option to scan any smuggler of any faction for contraband.
2. Smugglers would be given missions and goods from the mission giver to make deliveries past Imperial officials on ground and space. For instance;
A smuggler grabs a mission from Jabba to deliver some spice to his contact at the mining outpost on dantooine. If you succesfully deleiver, you get paid. If you are scanned by a player or npc imperial you would be forced overt and try to fight your way thru them or run like hell, if you run you lose the shipment and your pay.
What happens when this occurs?
Your employers puts a bounty on your head
Now in I know people will jump, no no that is forced pvp blah blah.
hear me out
the smuggler would be given a certain time period to pay their employer what is owed, if they fail to do so, the bounty goes on their head, insuring only those who want to deal with a BH do so.
I also suggest a tie in in space.
Imperial ships, such as decimators and the upcoming capitol ships could scan ships in space for contraband. If found you pay a fine to the empire, if you refuse you gain a tef and mustattempt to fight off the imperial ship, if you run you lose your shipment and face your employer's wrath. If you lose the fight you also will face your employer's anger.Pay him in a timely manner for the loss or face a bounty on your head.
Now the tie in to the thurd faction (Hutt) would be in order to do these missions you must visit a crime lord and take a contract, this could be Blacksun, Hutt, etc... So we could even add in 4th or 5th playable factions into the game as well.
By completing missions as a Hutt or Blacksun or what have you, you would gain money and of course prestige in the organization( faction points)
Rebels should be given missions to smuggle for the alliance by their superiors at various rebel stronghold's in the galaxy.
Same for imperial smugglers.
As you can see this would be VERY easy to implement and could be done NOW.
It would also offer us many new star warsy places to visit in the game.
Some of my ideas for Hutt faction perks would be
1. A casino with fully functional gaming tables, playable sabacc, various gambling systems for players to bet on. Even the possibility of ifyouwin too much the housecan make you leave the establishment or attack you with their in house security( even a possible tef that would allow Hutt factioned players to attack you)
2. Hotels that could be places in player cities with fully rentable rooms within along with a casino.
3 Both factional type bases named would have a npc to draw smuggler missions from as well as bh missions on smugglers who and BHs that failed their employers. So yes if the BH fails he could also face an angry boss and a possible bounty on his head, he either pays his boss for the failure or deals with a death mark on his head.
3. a Hangar with instanced bays to park ships in and a crimelord to take bh and smuggler missions from in space.
I am posting this here and the smuggler forums.
Please offer an more ideas you may have to further make this more interesting and fun.
I posted this in the core systems forums as well , i hope a dev can really get a good look at this.

an idea that has been brought up before. Not a flame in anyway mate, just pointing that out. I like the idea except for the running part. Surely running away from a combat situation shouldnt mean mission fail.

Some great ideas. File them next to all the others in that nice shiny container labelled 'bin'

While I am sure that your ideas are nice and you invested a lot of thought into them, I can no longer be bothered to even read new idea suggestions. As it is, it doesn´t matter how good or easy to implement they may be - they will not be implemented. Period. The best you can hope for is a few month ofdiscussion about them and then another Jedi expansion. My advice, take your ideas to the other Smuggler forum. People there might listen. Good luck!
Please don´t take offense at our attitude, it isn´t directed against you or your ideas. We are just plain simple desillusioned beyond hope.

It looks like we'll be able to smuggler in Pirates of the Burning Sea. That's my best hope for smuggling, plus pirates, ships, and no j3d1.

I can say that we can't really give any specifics about our plans, other than we plan to stop promising a smuggler revamp that we never seem to get around to delivering.
It's very unlikely we'd ever do a full profession revamp for smugglers anyway.

Unless your idea involves making the FS grind faster, or making jedi trials, then they won't add it.

What the heck. I'm for it. Ideally, you wouldn't have terms for this, or overts would just camp the terms. Or if you did have terms, they'd need to send you to an NPC to do the pickup. You could still get followed, but tails are easy to lose.
If you run and get away, you shouldn't lose your shipment. Just because the Empire knows who was delivering what, they don't necessarily know to where.

This favours Imperials though. Gives them the oppurtunity to scan people and do more, but nothing for the Rebels.
Are you forced into PvP when scanned, and then you run away from them? Or is it that you get a choice whether to enter PvP for combat or stay out of PvP and run?

Yeah it does but come on, why would rebels be scanning people? They aren't the official government. Perhaps allow rebel smugglers to scan suspected imperial spies for carrying suspected stolen plans? Of course this would make imperial smugglers more like spies and their missions involving stealing and or delivering such things as stolen plans, recon information etc...

You would be given the choice to surrender your shipment and pay a fine or run and gain a tef which would involve pvp. You would then become a wanted man like Han Solo and all imperials( or the appropriate faction)would be watching for you.

Did you miss the part where they said they'd never give us a revamp?
