It looks like a couple a players got caught red handed using slicing expolots on the flurry server. There is a fairly headed debate going on there regarding slicing exploits. This was exposed by a couple of our master smiths. Please come and take a look.

The slicingtrick that is going on here is anexploit of the system not a legal one.
I have PMed Taurin who is the main exploit guy about this. They are aware of it, they just haven't fixed it as of yet. He confirmed it as an exploit but no I can't share my PM's or Emails with the devs unless I am specifically told that I can. You will rarely ever find developers confirming exploits of any kind.
I talked to GreenMarine at the Summit, who also confirmed it as an exploit.
We have had conflicting csr statements in the past but it is undoubtedly an exploit in the minds of the developers.

This is an asinine way to treat a "supposed" exploit. Not all players read the forums.
My real life co-worker also plays SWG. He's a Master Smuggler. People have asked him to slice their weapons in this manner, even trading him the powerups to do it.
Now - I ask this.
Absent reading these forums - what mechanism does he have to even begin to question whether this is an "exploit" or not?
The conduit of information to the player base (which is NOT the same as the "forum users") in this game is broken. I know that they have mechanisms to broadcast messages to everyone - they did it at Christmas with the free holocrons and art. They've done it several other times also.
If this HAS been determined to be an exploit, and it can't be fixed immediately, then they should do the following:
- Blast a message out to EVERY player telling them this is an exploit.
- Add a knowledge base entry that it is an exploit.
I know they want to play the "well others don't know about it, so we'll just be telling them" argument - that's just too lame. This slicing method is known widely and will continue unless they take the aggressive action I've proposed above.
If they are not willing to take the action above, then they are implicitly CHOOSING to allow it to continue and, in the process, underscoring that it is NOT an exploit, just an "unintended feature" until they are able to fix it.

It's real simple to tell it's an exploit. The GAME removes the powerup when you applyclamp/cut wire. To do the exploit you must interrupt the normal slicing steps. End of story.

I think it's clear that SOE is going to stay silent on this...they'll probably just ignore it and hope that it'll go away while justifying their lack of action by saying that if they tried to make it known that it was an exploit or take measures to stop it they would be making it public and more prevalent. The root of the problem is probably more along the line of not having the proper connection between developers/programmers and customer service to allow problems like this to be snuffed out as they come up.
What I really found funny was the bit in the second link about have 20 same serial scythes... I mean, something that they already brought up and stated as an exploit on the forum, and here's some guy filling a vendor with scythes made from blades using unserialized cube core schems...ROFL Even being pissed off as a WS that gets my lunch eaten by pr!cks like this, the fact that people are blatantly exploiting like this just floors me...

Why should SOE stay quiet on this? Making an announcement in the MOTD screen will serve the purpose.
Today MOTD just posted about the bug about consuming HALVA. How many Doctors do you think consume HALVA as compare to the number of smuggler who is exploiting the PU slicing?
Obviously, SOE developers aren't even thinking that this is a serious enough problem that warrant immediate attention despite being reported in the last few months.
Post official announcement via Proper Channel. Not via word of mouth, Not via some Correspondant, Not via Players, and definitely not via replying to a forum posting about any policy position.
80% of the players i know don't visit/read the forum.
Players pay to play the game. Not to attempt to read what the developers think what is right and what is wrong.

I'm going to guess that you yourself have not played long, and that you high-jacked someone's account to post that drival....cause anyone that has been around SWG since July of 2003 should know that there is no way SOE is going to BROADCAST THAT THERE IS AN EXPLOIT!!!! Everyone knows just by reading the pop-up that shows up whe you go tho slice that removing the PU is needed. It says nothing about adding one after that. It says to slice. Thats it. No need for them to go to the forums to know that. Any smuggler that doesn't know that adding a PU is an exploit is blind. And likely dumb as this exploit is likley to only gain a whopping 50 dmg at most. Not a big jump to risk on getting banned.

I thought Master Smugglers could get up to 40% Slices on Weapons now?

Never.
With the powerup slice you could technically get up to a 46.5% slice. That is ILLEGAL. To let you know a lil more about this... it would say 35% slice when in reality the percentages add up to 46.5%.
