Thread: Persuasion FS quest unlock requires MEDIC abilities?

Wait a second... If the Persuasion tree of Senses is supposed to give faction perk price reduction, then why does the quest to unlock it require MEDIC abilities?

It doesn't make any sense (pun intended). So not only do I find out that the quest for this is in phase 1 (which I already took the crafting quest), but now I find out that I'll NEVER be able to unlock this tree because the quest requires Medic to do?

There are missions in which you "deliver an item while hostiles attack you" in every profession. I still don't consider [Smuggler's Alliance] pilots to be Smugglers, nor 'Smuggling' - at least not any more than Rebel Pilots or Imperial Pilots might sometimes "smuggle", with a lower-case s - JFreeman - 10/6/04

I think that's the general idea. They didn't want hologrinding, but in order to go up the trees you have to dabble in just about everything. I have heard that one of the things you have to do requires Master Medic, so that means if you like your template you will have to butcher erm...ahem...alter it to get Jedi.

Me, if I get a visit, fine. I will not destroy my template for a glowing stick.

I don't want a glowing stick, I just want lowered faction perk costs...

of course, no one has confirmed that persuasion actually does this, so it could all be a moot point.

What was the requirement for doing that quest?

Did you need to be a Master Medic to complete it?

And thanks for checking to see if you get more faction discount!

I did one holocron so I know I'll get one free branch. Soon as the Old Man shows up to give me candy, I'll run away from him, beat up any bullies that come my way, and visit the village to pick up Persuasion for free, assuming I don't have to get Medic.

Actually you need to have done 3 holocrons to get a free branch unlock.

I also would like to know more about persuasion. I got one free unlock and picked up luck which so far has seemed to do jack. A friend got it and claime to be looting stuff left and right but that was not the case with me. I have not done a quest yet so I would be interested in knowing more about persuasion before I go and do one of the others.

Persuasion sounds like a good smuggler skill to have. Even though I will turn this character into a Jedi I doubt I will drop smuggler, at least for a long time(it will take more then a year probably at the rate of xp accumulation and the amount of time I have to play). Won't be master any more but feign death would be to useful to have when every death counts.

So we created a system that would allow players to switch professions during the game, and there would be a lot of gameplay around making that change. If you want to go from architect to scout we've created a system to make that happen."

The wording here is all incorrect:

The number of unlocks you receive is based on the number of HIDDEN professions you mastered. The holocrons only told you up to four of them, but you didn't have to use a holocron to get the free unlock.

You needed to master at least three hidden professions to get a free unlock.

The scale is:

Three = One Unlock

Four = Two Unlocks

Five = Three Unlocks

Six = Four Unlocks

Seven = Five Unlocks

Eight = Six Unlocks

In this scale, the Post Publish Nine unlockers receive a full six trees, and then everyone behind them gets that type of credit.

I only Mastered three professions, two of them were hidden, and I received zero unlocks. If I had mastered one more hidden profession, I would have received one unlock tree.

Ok, replies to several points here...

First, I found out that the Slicing XP conversion ratio was changed to 3:1 at Live, so 99,999 of my maxed 100k slicing XP converted to 33,333 Senses XP. Much better than the 15:1 it was whenthe slicing XP conversionwas added to Test Center.

Second, I was about to ask if it required Master Medic still to do the Persuasion quest. It would be really bad if it did. That means a profession who generates an type of XP that can convert to Senses XP cannot use it without another profession Mastered. This needs to be changed, as the Smuggler profession screams Persuasion FS skills, and can get the XP for it, but cannot do the quest for it. Can you put in a word for us on this, Caylin?

Third, one Holo profession does not mean 1 unlock, unfortunately. I did 1 Holo profession and 6 others, and got ZERO free unlocks, despite my thinking I deserved 1. On top of that, the weapons/combat XP conversion ratio was not changed from 30:1 and 3:1, so the two disappointments I expected upon entering the Village came true.

In any case, I'm on my way to getting XP to unlock 6 of the combat/reflexes branches so I can get my second character slot.

All right, I've been gated out of the FS quests for now, so I'm not on top of this sadly. (/shakes fist at tc2 limits while he is at it, preventing him from testing this stuff out more)

I'll try to get a better feel for what’s going on. Basicall the problem is these quests are wanting skills that we don't have in order to complete them. A chronic problem since their creation. It's easy enough for me to add this to live issues.

Persuasion Quest:

  • Progression is restricted, as smugglers do not possess master medic, which is required to succeed.

Or am I missing something?

/waits for further education on the subject.

OK I checked it out last night and from what I can tell there seems to be no discount at all

I went and bought a ST armor bracer.. cost at the recruiter came up as 1050 fp, which is the normal price for a human M smuggler iirc. After purchase i lost 1050 fp so there is no discount before or after purchase by the looks of it

That's about it, thoughthe problemis a bit deeper than that. We also generate XP that can be used for the Crafting quests (Spice crafting and generic crafting from making our tools), yet these quests require Master Artisan, I believe.

I think a more generic description would be better. Something like:

Crafting and Senses Quests: Access is restricted. Though many professions (including Smuggler) generate XP that can be used for these skills, they cannot unlock the skills to learn without having Master Artisan (for Crafting) or Master Medic (for Senses). Any profession that generates XP that can be used for a FS skill should be able to do the quests to unlock the skills without requiring another profession (possibly require Mastery of the appropriate profession to allow access to the quests, if Mastery is a requirement the Devs want to include).
