Situation: A player, be it a random player, Weaponsmith, Guildmate, whoever, approaches you with items he/she wants sliced. Like many other players trying to get exploited sliceds, they give you the weapon and the "other equipment" you'll need. In short, they are asking for an exploit slice without coming right out and saying it, because they, of course, know it's an exploit.
Old Solution: Turn them away.
New Solution: Slice the weapon normally. Tell them the results however you want (personally, in this situation I would say them out loud, and continue all conversation with that person in Spatial, no /tells for exploiters says I!), then thank them for the power-up, and tell them how much they owe you. They will, of course, complain, but don't give the weapon back until you get paid. If they give you a ton of crap, tell them (in Spatial of course) that you gave them a legitimate slice, and that the slice they were requesting is an exploit that is a bane upon Smugglers and the entire SWG Economy (RP versions of this statement are preferred of course). If they continue harassment, then report them, and be sure to include in your ticket that they asked for an exploit slice.
Now, will we (or I since I'm sure most people will say "no thanks" to this idea, which I can't blame you for doing so) take a lot of heat for this? Yeah, we sure as Hell will. Will it do anything to slow down the amount of exploited slices happening? It could, but then again it could not.
Personally, I don't want to act like a limp, pathetic noodle anymore by losing business and turning people away while exploiters get rich. Screw the exploiters, and screw those that want exploited slices. Those wanting exploited slices ARE exploiters too; they are just as bad as the player actually performing the slice, especially if the person wanting the slice provides the necessary "equipment." Screw 'em.
I'm not a dishonest player, but I'm also not one to lie down and take a beating if I feel that I can stand up and do something, anything, even if it brings heat down on me. If the Devs won't fix this exploit that has been around for a LONG time, then it's up to us to do something. We can't stop them, but damnit we can't just lie down and let them keep kicking dirt in our faces.

y'know what? i like it...
i'm tired of this bs. i'm tired of having players come to me asking for exploits, and me not doing the job. i'm tired of this whole seeming of the devs that the smuggler prof is there for their own personal "lovesock"
I am no longer on strike. I will slice for anyone. I will charge what I want. I will not use exploits.. and if they get impatient, they can stuff themselves out the airlock. i'm workin here..
APPLE SAUCE, Beeyotch. apple sauce.
'nuff said.

Way ahead of you. I have a nice Republic Blaster some idiot wanted exploit sliced. Got a nice slice on it, too.
If he hadn't become abusive, he might have gotten his pistol back.

*Giggles*
I'm not slicing publicly for the time being anyway due to the crate "fix", but as soon as they "nerf the fix" I'll be back in business. Of course, anyone that wants an exploited slice is going to wind up getting a regular slice and a /shrug ... probably a report too.

Yeah, reporting people has gotten us nowhere. Not a single player has been banned for an exploit the Devs know about. They haven't fixed this age old exploit since day one. Slice the weapon the legitimate way, thank them for the free powerup, and tell them how much they owe. Screw them, and screw anybody else the exploits or attempts to cheapen our profession. We can't stop the exploiters ourselvs, but we can do our best to discourage people from asking in the first place by just giving them a regular slice and then keeping the powerup. Might as well make some money off these jerks, and be sure to explain to the in spatial that what they wanted you to do was an exploit.
They know the exploit hasn't gotten anybody in trouble with SOE, so it's about time we make the exploit get them in trouble with us instead.

Nifty idea esepcialy reporting in spatial chat , unfortunate happenings, unfortuntely some not so nice, or rule abiding smuggler, on my server would go psttttt take customer
Recently i tried to explain the new round of bugs on our server and there's always another smugler that will under cut which is fine with me i already made a nice small fortune playing fairly
I think if we do not /report and or /bug it or be loud once in a while we will never ever be heard
but i will still play fairly with others and let those that "cheat trip themselves up"

Generally, iffolks request an exploited slice, i politely decline, despite the high offers i receive if i indulgethem. If they hand me the weapon without mentioning a word, i just slice it legitimately and the pup is removed. None of my customers have gotten abusive as of yet.
Course, all this changed when i went on strike post-pub 10. Didnt go on strike to get a reaction from the devs, though. Just found slicing even more tedious to bother with.

Just a quick note, not all players that ask for slices on powerup'd weapons are trying to exploit. Before becoming a smuggler and learning of the existance of this exploit I had asked for plenty of weapons to be sliced with a powerup already attached; not because I wanted to exploit, but because I was using the durn things and they still had the p-ups on 'em.

Naw, have fun with it.
Just put the power up on after you slice... I mean, that's the nice thing to do, isn't it? They obviously wanted the powerup's effect, so you may as well put it on afterwards...

Now if they hand you a weapon and a powerup, yeah, they're cheating bastards and I say slice it the right way, then play dumb about the powerup and see if you can get them to say something stupid for the /report.
Ah, thats possible as well. Darn, i shouldnt have given my last customer such a dirty look.

I haven't been playing much recently.
I've always just sliced the weapon and the powerup is destroyed.
Has there recently been a bug introduced where the slice based on the powered-up stats of the weapon?
So if I'm handed a weapon WITH powerup then I should remove the powerup manually before slicing?
So far I've not had anyone hand me a weapon and a seperate powerup.
Someone fill me in so I don't inadvertantly promote an exploit please.

heh, ok...don't think you need to go into details...doesn't take an Einstein to figure it out from there.
Not had anyone do that to me so far. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't accidently doing it if the weapon came with a pu installed.
Thanks.
