Thread: Smuggler in Combat is AWESOME!!!

I did the EXTREMELY difficult Miner's Quest in the Death Watch Bunker with my guild last night. Imagine going all the way to the bottom, then back up, then repeating this five times!!! We did it with NINE people, and I'll tell you how we did it: with a smuggler.

Concussion Shot

Panic Shot

Overwhelming Shot

Low Blow

Intimidate Shot (Pistoleer)

We all know that NPC's humanoids/aliens/creatures can be mezzed. Using Conc and Panic Shot is common sense that it helps down there. Droids cannot be mezzed, but the NPC's CAN. In times when you're group is overwhelmed, Conc./Panic Shot will save you all.

Overwhelming Shot:Shoot this at targets not being mezzed. It will allow Low Blow, Intimidate Shot, and the Armor Breaks that your friends put on them land easier

Low Blow.... I NEVER thought this was a useful special because I though the -40 combat speed debuff just took speed off a target's Pistol/Rifle/Carbine/Pike/Unarmed/Sword speed. This is not correct. Combat Speed is something different, and the testing I did on the shot showed that it decreases their attack speed much more than just taking 40 off their skill-based, weapon-specific speed. Low Blow was able to reduce a target's speed by 25%!!!

Intimidate Shot:while not able to be applied to droids, this will decrease the damage an NPC does by 20%. Couple this with Low Blow, and your target will be doind 45% less damage!!! Those NPC's and droids hit hard down there, and cutting their damage by 25-40% for enemies not mezzed helps ALOT.

Of course, a smuggler must be ON TOP of mezzing NPC's down there. Have someone from your combat team (who can take damage) pull enemies while the rest of you stay out of line-of-sight away and behind a corner. If more than one enemy is pulled, have the smuggler mez them, while the group focuses on killing the droids one at a time. It is important to have a voicechat program so that targets can be called for mezzing or attacking. You can't mez droids, so put a Overwhelming and Low Blow on the droids your team is not attacking.

It is important to have some medical skills if you are going to be doing this as well. Get a rez arm, too.

Overall, I found that I was a VERY important member of my combat team, and that we probably wouldn't have been able to do the DWB WITHOUT someone with smuggler skills. I had a GREAT time, and this game really opening up for me. In PvP, I have Commando 0404, and I can use the Acid Stream Launcher to put ALL of these states on HUGE groups of people in PvP.

For those wanting to try an exciting template, try Master Smuggler/Commando 0404/Pistoleer 0430/Combat Medic 4000. Get some ranged cybernetic arms, or throw on a rez arm. You will absolutely LOVE being in combat

I know when I'm in TS and not out hunting with them, I do hear them say "Well, we don't any mezzers, so be careful!"

Between mez and our slicing the terms, hunting groups LOVE me!

Excellent

Another reason for my post was to add MUCH respect to Low Blow. It is a shot that will ALWAYS remain on my toolbar now that I know how effective it is.

If you couple Low Blow with Intimidate Shot, you will cut an enemies damage output by 45% ish, and that is as much as Intimidate did before the CU.

Smuggler combat skills depend much on the group you are with. Unfortunately a couple of the people I play with just can't get it through their heads about the rules for the mez skills. It's because of this that I often have problems.

I did notice last night that low blow is not as bad as I thought, but I'd still love to see a good animation with it hehe.

I've always used overwhelming shot, and everyone seems to notice a difference when I'm not there using it.

Since I only have one tree in Pistoleer, I don't really use intimidate shot, and the one person in our group who had it just went Jedi, so we unfortunately don't have that addition anymore.

All in all, most of the guys in my group will try something once, and when it proves too hard, they start asking me when I can make a run with them.

"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

Like the shot hitting them between the legs and them grabbing their crotch? Kind of an America's Funniest Home Videos thing.

The smuggler forum had a "Crotch-Grabbing Animation Petition" a year or so ago. The consensus was that we'd rather see the time put into bug fixes and getting us to actually SMUGGLE.

I don't think we'd get that since the icon has the X on the knee. But anything to show that shot landing below the belt would be cool... even if it dropped them to one knee for a moment.

Haha

Overwhelming and Low Blow DO work on the super battle droids though At least you can cut their attack speed by 25%. That often times means life or death as far as keeping friends alive is concerned

Yeah it is. I'm Master Smuggler, Master Pistoleer, 4440 Commando (might change the commando part)

In group PvP I hit targets with this.

Stopping Shot, Warning Shot, Overwhelming Shot, Low Blow, Intimidate, Burst Shot. I'm not a great for DPS but I do the prep work so targets can be chewed up in a hurry. Other targets get Concussion shot/Panic Shot to take them out of the fight.

The only thing is that getting shots to land on Jedi in PvP can be a big pain in the butt. A Jedi with Force Valor on will block or cause misses on 60% of my shots

Yeah I started loving my Smuggler once I got Low Blow. Really if I did nothing in my groups but lay one of those on every target pulled I'd pull my weight in a group. Really eases the stress on your main tank and healer without drawing alot of unwanted aggro in the process. I keep it in my first hotkey slot for use as my opening move.

Concussion shot is near impossible to use effectively in an aoe grind group but was very nice in a single target pulling group that got a few extras.
