Thread: A view of the YT1300 conundrum

Greetings,

Just wanted to ask if anyone else was a little disenchanted with the knowledge that the YT was in the master box of privateer. I must admit, for the most part, I liked the stuff I have seen in JTL, but the ship certs kinda through me for a loop. I was hoping that I would be able to get one right off the bat and start slowly modifying it as I did missions ground out exp, etc.

Some may say, "big deal, didn't want to see a gazillion yt's in space anyway", or "it's a reward for all your hard work grinding", or even "it's more realistic cause you gotta learn from the ground up". I say frack. To me, the ships are as much a character as our toons. The ships shouldn't be just another item or "trophy piece". Where is the fun in getting the YT at master, for once you are master, you are then certed for all the best gear.Alas, for me at least, there is the rub. The Falcon for instance, all be the fastest ship in the galaxy (if you belive the press that is), but it had major draw backs. Han didn't one day say, "hey, i'm a master pilot" and tada, he gets the yt fullyloaded. He built that ship up, making modifacations as he went.

Anyroad, just wanted to voice my opinion on this. Thanks for your time attention.

That's because the idiots didn't add any smuggler profession content to JTL, and the smuggler stuff that did add is open to all.

So, in their eyes, what would be the point of a YT class ship in the hands of a Master Smuggler or whatnot.

Just some info on the YT-1300 for you non JTL testers. The freelancer profession (the one with the YT-1300) is the only profession that doesnt have a master level ship that only takes one person to fly. I know theres a ton of Solo wanta-bes out there (count me in), but as it stand right now, to get to master and only be able to compete with out masters by having a crew of people on one ship sucks. Not to mension that both Rebel and Imperial pilots both get their own POS ship. Freelancer is really going to be a profession for the hardcore smugglers . Somewhat sad.

Just because you're certed for it doesn't mean you have it.

It's always possible to loot a better component than what you've already got. It's also possible to tweak your components (by tweak I mean buy a new one with different specs) in order to ween the most out of your ship. Say you loot a crazy good reactor that frees up some mass on your ship and adds a ton of energy. Now you can look for better shields or weapons or whatever that will take advantage of that extra energy and freed up mass.

Being a Master Shipwright in Beta has allowed me to craft whatever I need on a whim, so I've really seen how I can tweak this stat or that stat to get the most out of my ship. It won't be so easy when the game goes Live, but it will still be do-able.

Well privateer can fly that firespray at master yah know, instead of the YT. So that's at least one other master-level ship.

This was talked about to death on the beta boards with several extremly thought out and well planed suggestions but the devs didn't listen. And Just to back up the devs a little GreenMarine specifically stated he wanted to add in smuggler content into jtl but ran out of time. He said he'd have to add it in later.

He did add "smuggler" content, just not "Smuggler" content . Crazy devs.

Just as a little sidebit... as somebody that tested both Rebel Pilot and Freelance Pilot... the dev that did the Privateer missions is one sadistic SOB. I had a hard time with my fully decked out X-Wing at 4444 Rebel pilot helping out some of the privateers with their Teir 3 missions, and I did all of the rebel missions up to 4444 solo. It wasn't hard to blow the ships up... that only took a couple shots. The problem was trying to survive the 6 ships shooting missles at you.

I thought the NGE couldn't be any worse than the CU, but I was wrong.

If GreenMarine actualy said that then believe it. Personaly he is the only Dev that i remotely trust, that and from reading the dev diarys looks like he the only one working also to bad for us, tha we cant clone him

Well its still beta. ButI do argee, smuggler missions after tier 2 were almost all group work. So much for us "freelancers".

It wasn't just the smuggler's alliance missions, it was the Corsec and NSF missions that became group missions at T3 as well.

Incontrast, thedev that did the Rebel missions also claimed to be an Imperial that had the joy of bringing pain to Rebel pilots, but all in all the missions were challenging at times, but not impossible to solo.

They should have made different classes as different professions. Instead of pushing JTL out like they did with SWG in general, they should have focused more time and money into everything. Think about it this way:

Numerous players want to fly the "Falcon" but not everyone wants to be a neutral pilot. Everyone wanted the YT-1300 for all factions, but only neutrals got it BUT all factions got the KSE Firespray. Han was neither a master pilot nor a master smuggler, so how does any of this make sense?

Heres the answer.

Different classes = Different ships

Think about it, if you go pistoleer, you do not have to master rifles as a pre-req. Why should you master star-fighters to pilot a freighter?

There needs to be seperate classes:

Freighter Class -YT-1300, YT-2400, VT 49, ect. Multi-passanger ships that require a skilled crew to opperate effectivly.

Star Fighter Class -X-Wing, TIE Variants (limited) ect. One man multipurpose ships for attacks, escorts, ect. Jack-of-All-Trades kind of ship.

Interceptor Class -A-Wing, TIE Interceptor Small one man ships for recon and patrols. For the player that needs to move fast.

Heavy Fighter Class -Y-Wing, TIE BomberLarger fighters made for strategic bombing and heavy support roles. 2 passenger.

Capitol Ship Class -Star Destroyer, Corvette Wishful thinking on my part

If this system was implemented, everyone would be able to fly a class of ship of their choosing without having to master an entire profession. And this will allow player to pilot say, a YT-1300 off the bat, but it would a ship that is improved as the pilot earns more skills. Thicker armor, stronger weapons, ect.

Bonus to RPers, we can keep our character the way we like it. Im a smuggler and I would prefer to spend my time in a ship of my choice to master then grind in other ships to get what I want after weeks of shooting down Black Sun ships...

Do I want a YT-1300, no. I want a YT-2400 and I want to have the ship evolve with my character. I am currently writing a novel about my character and my experiences since I started playing this game 1 year ago and I would love to be able to let my character roam free rather than go back to another form of the holo grind just to get a ship...

Edit: Minor edits for spelling error... And yes, I just noticed the Spell Check button...
