I and many others have or are headed to what's known as 'The triple master'.... or something like that. It's master Smuggler, Master Pistoleer and Master TKA. They all fit nicely together, but you have to work out if it's your cup of tea or not. Come the Combat Balance, it should be areal nice combination, allowing you to switch between2-3 combat/group rolls (3 if the Smuggler revamp goes well, 2 if it doesn't).
Alternatively, you could pick up the buisness tree in Artisan and have vendors selling sliced goods, spice and smuggler tools. It really depends on what you want to do with your character. I know Caylin is a rifleman and smuggler, which isn't the norm, but what suits him - it really does depend on your own style and vision for the game.

Actually I don't believe I've ever said I was a rifleman (though I have experimented with it)... a fencer though.

If you're not into combat, a weaponsmith, or armoursmith is a good combination for smuggler as well. That way you can slice your own weapons or armour.

I'm going merchant, and making TONS of money selling pre-sliced weapons, I mean TONS !!!
each time I log in the game I have between 200k and 1.2M more in my bank account
it's a REAL PLEASURE to not having to do missions to get money
but I still have a fighting character with another account, in case I would go get some loots

You just need novice weapon/armorsmith for that. The good thing is that you are elegible to master DE, so you slice your weapon, your armor and make your own bombs.

I recently dropped most pistol from triple master, and will be going Master Smuggler/Master Swordsman/Novice Pistoleer/TKA 4-4-0-4 (I may be one or two off on the TKA though). As a solo player who wears great armor and is always buffed and full of brandy, I don't need medic anymore. When I need a heal, I feign death. Triple master though (TKA/Pistol/Smug) is very nice though. Great defense, great and varied offense.

I concur, triple master is amazing. I've been a master smuggler since 34 days after release, and have never once dropped the title yet. It's the single most enjoyable profession around, and going triple master just makes it an even better total package.

I'm headed out along the tripple master route myself, but after watching a friend kill anything he set his mind to (if given enough time) with only enough rifleman to fire conseal shot and master scout, I started to think adding Smuggler with FD to that template would make for an unstoppable PvE force. He literally targets something with 5-6 figure HAMs, fills the combat cue with conceal shot, and equips a mid to slow speed rifle before jumping in the shower or going off to make dinner. And he always wins.
On the flip side, tripple master is getting more and more interesting as I climb that TKA ladder. I'll miss TKA when they release SE...
