Thread: In-game discussion of slice pricing...

I had someone ask me to slice a weapon last night, and when I responded that it was 5k per slice, he said "wow". After a moment he says, "nm on the slice. prices have really gone up."

I decided this time to not give my usual "Good luck" and responded that slice prices would be higher than they have been, if we can help it.

This prompted him to begin a discussion on slice prices with me. Little did he know that we Smugglers had debated the issue ad nauseum on our forms and I had all the answers ready for him. The discussion was all in /tells and reasonably polite (especially on my end) and went something like this (not exact words, obviously).

His first assertion was that it only cost 50cr for us to slice something and we get XP from it. I told him that I do not receive any XP from it (I am a Master Smuggler) and that it is the value of the service and time taken to perform the service, not the resource costs.

Next, he threw out that we can't guarantee the slice and that he'd pay 20k for a guaranteed 35% slice. My response was that as a Master, I can give him the best percent range allowed by the game and that any improvement to the weapon is valuable, especially since the improvement lasts the lifetime of the weapon. (I should have offered to slice his weapon for 500cr/%, as that would have only been 17.5k for a 35% slice.)

I must point out at this time that while the discussion is going on, I am slicing two weapons for another customer, a very nice lady who's gender I mistook at first because of that blasted armor, until she corrected me and took off her helmet. I apologized profusely and kowtow'd before her. She accepted the apology very graciously and gave me a kiss on the cheek.

Anyway, his next comment was to ask if Doctors should charge 100k for buffs, since it was value and time and all that. I replied that they can if they want to, though their enhancement only lasts three hours...

About this time, I concluded business with the kind lady (one of the two slices was a 34% speed slice, which she seemed pleased with) who asked "How much" (she had asked before I began and responded with "ok" to my 5k price). I told her it would be 10k total and we began the trade. I placed her weapons in the window and she entered 20k in the cash box! We accepted and I thanked her for the generous bonus.

My next /tell to the person I was discussing pricing with was that a very value minded individual had just paid me 20k for two slices, when I had asked only for my usual 5k per. Didn't hear a word from him after that.

I inderstand where you are coming from but i dont agree. We dont need to set our prices. This is an ecomony based game slice for what ever price you feel is fair. If people dont want to pay it tell good luck and move on. 1/2 the fun on the game is lookin for deals. My fee's are:

01% 14% - 2k

15% - 23% -4k

24% - 33% - 6k

34% and up - 8k

now this works for me but not everyone. Some people feel it is a fair price some think it is to high, other think it is to low. My point......charge what YOU FEEL IS FAIR both for your supply, time and service.

thing is i told him how muchit was befor ehand via tells and he said ok then he would pay up. i told him either u pay me now or i sell em for 4k each to make back the cost of tools and u wasting my time. he then offered to pay me, while still moaning about it. i guess you just cant win with some people only gonna slice fo rguild or people i have sliced for previously and people they have told about me

oh one more thing anyone who trys the cost to the smuggler for slicing BS ask them why a new speeder costs 3mil when all the supply are looted (it is a matter of time and service not cost). then just /ignore and turn your back to them. Smugglers are the under world and we dont have to be nice to people who hagle with us. If they press you on this issuetell them the price doubled.

I've recently started charging 200 credits/% and no one has complained yet. Last night someone gave me a vibroknuckle and after Isliced it for 27% speed, they then offered me a comp helmet and chest plate.I received two high slices (one encum, one effect) and the total for the three came to 14,200 credits. Bank tip for 16,000.

While it seems some people will complain about prices others will just pay it and be happy about the improvement.

I say this - charge what YOU think is appropriate. Remember all the pistols and armor and time and money it took you to grind your way through Smuggler. THAT is what they are paying for. Yes, I know it costs me about 300 credits to make a two knives and a clamp, but I'm giving you a permanent upgrade to your weapon.

Good for you man! I'm tired of working my butt off for the slicing tree, and getting diddly squat in terms of cash! I've been charging 90 creds per percent, and I'm definitely raising my price to a set rate.

Hello fellow Smugglers.

Picked up Master Smuggler 2 weeks ago and my business is booming. I love this Job.

I have my Bio set as follows:

Prices for slicing:

19% or lower 5k

20% - 29% 8k

30% or higher 10k

Prices are the same for weapons or armor.

If you accept these terms trade with with me, if not you have a good day.

But remember my slices are forever, a buff only last 3 hours.

I tell everone who ask for slices to examine my bio. 90% of the time ppl agree and we begin. A few want to laugh and say they'll find one cheaper.

I tell them if they come back prices will be double. LOL and i do get a few come backs.

I got a tell asking for my price to slice while in Theed. Always polite, I said "5k per item. What can I enhance for you tonight? I'm at your service." The client then complained that he/she/it (I'll default to 'he') said that he:

  • CLIENT: "! was a smugglera while back and prices were never this high .. blah blah blah .... 100cr / % .... blah blah blah .... you're ripping people off ..... blah blah blah .... no discount under 20% ?? ..... blah blah blah ..... nm I'll look elsewhere."

  • ME: "I understand that people think that 5k is too expensive and you are entitled to look elsewhere. An educated consumer is the best consumer and I hope you get high slices from another Master Smuggler. You know where to reach me if you need me. Good luck!"

5 minutes later

  • CLIENT: "I found another Slicer charging 5k as you were. But he gives a discount for results < 20%. He'll get my business.

  • ME: "Best of luck!"

5 minutes later

  • CLIENT: "Can you slice 2 guns for me?"

  • ME: "Sure. 10k for two guns. How did your other slicing go?"

  • CLIENT: "He wasn't a Master Smuggler and got all low slices. I only paid 3k per item."

  • ME: "Here are your results: FWG5 33% dmg Rep Blastr31% dmg

  • CLIENT: "awesome!!"

  • ME: "That'll be 10k .... apology accepted."

Needless to say, I was pretty darn proud to be Master Smuggler!

I love when people say things like " It use to be cheaper". My responce is usualy:

"And bread was 13 cents in 1921, in 1977i could get a slice of pizza a coke and an italian icy all for $1.15. Things change, deal with it."

It is retarded when people say 5k has "really gone up" as a price.

100 credits per percent was the base price from launch, a 45% slice on a piece of armor was 4.5k... How the hell has a 5k price tag "really gone up"?

I charge 10k per item.
-or-
5k for items 11%-24%
10k for items 25%-34%
15k for items 35-45%

I charge 10k per item period. When someone trys to get me to lower it by offering to pay lets say 5k (it dosent really matter how much he offered) I say"OK you talked me into changing my price, how does 20k grab you?"Dont get much business that way but it is sure fun.
