My fellow guild mates and I were talking today in our ventrilo voice chat server and we were discussing if a jedi should be able to know his visibility. Obviously there were multiple oppinions but the idea was brought up that perhaps a Smuggler should have the ability to show a jedi his visibility.... for a fee.... Having the underworld connections that a smuggler would have developed through the course of his career hewould be able to access certain info channels. In turn, a bounty hunter could use this same information system to track his marks more efficiently.Weseem to lackthe type of connection that a smuggler would have to the pollitical and criminal infrastructure which dominatesthe corruptgovernment that is the empire.

I think this is a great idea. Actually the whole spynet thing can be re-thought so that Smugglers are included in the loop. Afterall in Star Wars these were the folks you'd go to.

Actually you'd go to a BH guild spy or a slicer... we just want to be smugglers.

Thanks for the thought though.

"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

I think it'd be an interesting idea to have Slicers that did stuff like this. Say there's a BH who is a bit low in creds and droids. He goes to a smuggler and asks him to slice the space terminals to see what planet his jedi went to last. The Slicer goes to the term and slices it (for a fee) and the BH could go off and find him. Taking it a step further, if the slicer went with him he could slice into the shuttle terms on that planet to see which shuttle he took last.

But dammit, asa smuggler, I want to Smuggle. ferfecksake

The entire structure of an underworld realy would add alot to this game. It is very probably what the smuggler profession could use as opposed to trying to simply beef up their combat ability. Granted, a smugger should definately have a decent set of skills to keep himself out of a shallow grave somewhere. There just is little real depth in the criminal orginizations within the world of SWG. At least with factional affiliation there is plenty of player interactivity, and developing the political and criminal worldcould bring a whole new life to our time in game.

Thinking about the entire game before himself.

God bless you!

Theed was a bustling commerce city...people hawked their wares, danced, laughed, dueled, and had a rollicking good time. Cantinas packed with Entertainers of every race, shape and size...along with scoundrels, Stormtroopers, and drunks. People grouped up and stuck together in the wilderness, and you ALWAYS took a Scout or a Ranger with you. We lived our own Star Wars saga. We created our own personas, our own histories, and it all blended into this wonderful, magical experience that I will always remember...

That magic is gone now, but I'd pay 50 bucks a month to have it back.

Editor's Note: The author of the above post has quit giving SOE her money. She suggests you do the same, because this game will never be what you want it to be.

Sounds promising for the visibility, but I think the whole slicing the terminal to find where the BH is takes it too far. That removes the need for the BH's using Arakyds completely, and to a point Seekers as well. I don't think anything needs to be added in that further screws over Droid Engies.

Well, if you think about it in a role play aspect you realy see the need for an underworld that is interactive. There is great pontential here. Can you imagin, once you have completed Jabba's Palace and become a friend to Jabba you get a degree of clout with other criminals, most of whom can provide information or even certain services. Liken this to that lovely Event Coordinator that was recently added (THANK YOU SOE!! I frigen love the Juke Boxes!!). One could pay a visit to an underwold agent and perhaps hire a body guard NPC, rent a hideout, be given missions for combatants and crafters alike, not to mention the information buisness.... There are alot of possibilities that could realy liven up player interactivity in a way that is not strictly combat oriented. And a side note for the Devs, I just want to be one to provide my testiment that the people who subscribe do so for reasons other than combat and PvP. It would definately be awesome if we could liven up player interactivity some in an effect other than beating the snot out of eachother. I love SWG and will never cancel my subscriptions and have for almost 2 years now. We can realy bring a greater sense of community and interaction with just a little effort.

Thanks for the common sense posting muddyman, it really is appreciated. But you've hit the nail on the head, this game needs a lot more work on the underworld aspect of it. As a matte of fact, they need a better authority aspect to come with it since you can't really have one without the other. I think you'd gladly see Smugglers give up a lot of slicing, if not all of it, for an actual underworld, smuggling missions, and a legitimate authority backed up by a real risk vs reward system.

All in all, the slicing you're talking about would be better suited towards a new profession fleshed out to be a part of a better underworld.

I do appreciate it, but most of my first paragraph is really conversation that's been had here for a very long time to the point that we really don't even say it anymore.

If you'll notice I havnt said anything about slicing. I believe personaly that such an aspect though important realy isn't what smuggling is by nature. Smugglers should be our slicers and drug dealers but while someone is engaged in such illegal activities he would have knowledge about the goings on of both criminal and government officials. This not only could potentialy give the smuggler the ability to provide information to jedi regarding his visibilty but could also serve bounty hunters to one degree or another (maybe a buff of some sort giving the BH better tracking or a combat bonus - call it advanced knowlege about his mark). There could also be some type of payoff system, where someone who is being hunted can provide a service or fee to an agency and be lowered in visibility, all of this through a smuggler of appropriate skill. Sure, we could create another profession to cater to this type of activity but a huge part of smuggling is maintianing a connection to this underworld. A Master Smugger would have developed great insight into these criminal orginizations and curry large ammounts of clout with other criminals. We should concern ourselves with the issue at hand which is rebuilding the smuggler profession so that it gives greater depth in SWG and is a desirable and valuable profession even for those who do not wish to participate in combat.

I was trying to get a discussion going on the Jedi Forums for us (Jedi)to see our visibilities; utilizing Smugglers was one of the conclusions of how we would access it, but it didn't go very far because all they wanna do is b!tch and whine, not resolve. I'm behind you 100% as a Smuggler and a Jedi, escpecially since I won't have to pay anyone to check my own Vis! ROFL
