First incident: Got bored a few weeks ago. Couldn't really find anything to do. Overheard some people talking about running Janta missions. At first I envisioned Faambas, but then remembered they were those cavemen. So pull out the droid that stores my composite. I get buffed all around. Get to Dantooine, get into a solo group, pick up some missions and then pop a couple Brandies just in case.
I go out, and I'm have a rough time of it. Why? Because I'm a Pistoleer. I was constantly switching between DX2 and FWG5. I'd go to a base, they would aggro, so I would run off. I'd end up killing the Jantas (or Mokks) but when I went back to destroy the base, there would be more of them. This is a vocal solo group, so in the meanwhile we're still groupchatting. I'm asking questions about my predicament. This one guy is convinced I'm a 'noob' and that I bought my character. It was the first time I'd ever done 'Janta missions' on purpose farmingfor cash. Can I be blamed for never really being on Dantooine that much before? It was actually pretty insulting. I'd probably been on the game alot longer than he had. I'm a day-twoer dammit! =) Eventually I left because I got pissed that I got killed... by cavemen with STICKS and ROCKS, and that myPISTOLS didn't do much to them and my ARMOR didn't work great. How can a fully comparmored Rodian lose to a gang of friggin' cavemen is beyond me (no Rodian jokes).
Second incident: The other night, during a Bestine Tusken Raid of all times, this guy offers me 6k for my full suit of Marauder Armor. I run a macro whenever I'm on (and I rarely AFK) to try to sell some of the higher dollar stuff I have. On the line with the armor, I stated 'make an offer'. So I say someting like that 'lol I mean a real offer' (not insulting him, but I figured he was joking =)and he says 'well, you said make an offer'. And I said something like '6k is nothing though, it's totally not worth selling it that low'. Then he says 'well Ican get the armor for 6k, a roundtrip ticket to Endor' thengoes into this diatribe how I'm ruining the economy selling my 'loot junk' (I was also selling 3 Naboo Sculptures and a gong for 300k each, which IIRC is pretty low for our galaxy and 2 glass tables for 500k each which is also pretty low) for such a high price, and how he wished he could find 100 crystals and put them on the market for 1 credit each. I was confused mostly, as I don't even get why he's targeting me. There are people who macro plenty without even being there, and there are vendors who sell stuff far more expensive than me out there. But apparently I'm ruining the economy. I told him I just wanted these numbers because people are stillpaying them... it's how the market works. THEN, and here's his realinsult to me, he says 'I bet you buy your credits huh?' andI was like 'HELL no. I make my credits through slicing and selling stuff.' He assumed I must have been totally loaded because '6k must be insulting to you'. Let's face it folks, if you've been playing since day 2, you can pick up 6k in five minutes doing... uh...anything. And I'm FAR from loaded. In actuality I have a little less than 3 mil. I don't spend a lot or buy expensive items which is how I keep my money level. I'm not one of those people who can spend 2 mil without batting an eye. I had to really really force myself to buy my DE-10. I'm a smuggler-pistoleer, a workingprofession that lends itself to having towork formoneyrather the sit back and watch it just roll in.
So basically I got crap from both types of 'l33ts', the 'power-gaming newb-callers' and the '"hard working" working-class schlep', and both because they jumped to conclusions about me without taking the time to know what I'm about. I'm just sick of these people. They are rare in the sense thatI barely run into 'em, but god they are annoying when they show up.

Just a note on the first incident...
Jantas just laugh at Heat and Acid and keep coming. You really need a Geo Blaster to take care of Jantas efficiently, then switch to the FWG to kill the lair. You can get away with using Heat on Mokks though.
Also, with a full set of buffs and decent kinetic resist armor (along with some Brandy and Canape for Mind), you should be able to stand your ground and pick off the Jantas / Mokks while they beat on you, and you shouldn't have to run off from the fight.
If, for some reason you do have to run, stay within 100m of the lair...otherwise you get a whole new spawn to kill. Which, if you're XPing, isn't that bad.
I killed many Jantas and Mokks as just a Smuggler / Pistoleer before I went and picked up TK.

Well I was checking their resists-- Heat and Acid were themost effectiveIIRC. I have a Geo, but it's weak, and I refuse to spend all the money on one of the high end ones with stats that still don't look impressive...

Yeah...I hated spending the creds that I spent on my Geo...but you can't beat it for Janta missions. And even though the resists say they're vuln to Heat, my FWG has never been effective against Jantas. Works fine on Mokks though...
And, I found the most effective strategy was to just spam Healthshot 2...
Shame...all the shots I have at my disposal (Last Ditch, Fan Shot, Stopping Shot, Bodyshot 3, etc.), and the most effective attack is the one you get from Novice Pistoleer...
Now, I picked up TK and just Unarmed Spin 2 until everything's dead...

Heat is definatly not what you want to use on Jantas. Your best bet on those is your DX2 or a Republic Blaster. Ive never had a problem taking those out. Theyre NPCs that like to melee so just keep running back and fourth spamming fan-shot.
Mokks your best bet is Heat, FWGS, same exact tactic...if ya wanna call that a tactic. Piece o cake.
Quite frankly those missions arent that fun as a pistoleer, good money but take a long time because the stupid lair has a billionhitpoints. The npcs themselves arent too tough as long as your buffed and have decent ubese or composite.

I think lairs are a pistoleer's bane full stop. I had the exact same problem doing faction missions (I've beenworking at rank on and off the past few weeks), and I've actually got into the habit of stacking up last ditches on my combat queue and tabbing out to read the forums...

It's true what they say...smugglers really do deal with the scum of the galaxy on a daily basis.

My smuggler's best friend is a Modfied Republic Blaster, with a damage slice. I even got the WS to make me a whole crate of them, for when the enevitable happens, and mine breaks.

Well, considering lairs take a *lot* more damage when there's no defenders, it sounds like you're just trying to nuke the lair and run out.

No. I used to do that, but since the village quests came out, I've wanted the XP for the defenders too ... and I haven't actually noticed any difference between the two methodsin the time to kill the lair.

Not for missions, no, but if you are fighting wild spawns, the lair will take almost 10x damage once you have completely exhausted the supply of creatures (3 -5 waves of autospawns, plus 2 waves of "tapping" spawns). This only works for creatures, as NPC lairs do not spawn, except when you go out of range, and then return later.

I had a guy ask me to slice some armor and i told him my price (6k per) he told me he had been a master smuggler and if i used high quality tools, i told him "good enough" and he proceded to tell me of all the 40%+ slices he used to get with high quality tools then called me a noob, (been playing sience may and smuggler was the first profession i mastered) I imedetly put him on my ignore list and went my marry way.
