Hi Smugglers!
I have a question:
Recenlty I made some nice Acklay Hammers and Nym VKs and took the plunge and decided to get them sliced.
Now I found a smuggler with the title up and it said in his profile that he'd mastered the Smuggler Profession! "Great!" I thought. I handed over the weapons and he then proceeded to slice half (3)of them as failures at a total cost of 2.5 million credits to myself.
Natrually I'm a bit suspicious and raise a ticket where the CSRs inform me that they cannot check how a weapon was sliced.
Now the guy assures me that he used clamps but with 3 out of 6 failures I'm not so sure. Has anyone else had experience of such a high failure rate? Could it be the fact that he's not a Master Smuggler at all? Or could he not be bothered to use clamps and decide to fleece me?
I'd appreciate your thoughts/input/experiences!

He could still fail if he used clamps but didn't read the text in the box telling him what wire to cut.
Also, lag can play a part, but I'd say three lag failures is pushing it.
In any case, he should know his tools by the time he gets to Master, or if it was lag, he should have moved to a better location after the first failure. Not a very good Smuggler. At the very least, he should have apologized profusely.

Clamps don't fail. Ever. Molecular Clamps grant 100% accuracy on the slice target.
Sounds like he was doing the guessing game, since its a 50-50 shot at calling the ball without any assistance. Heck, even a FAN would have gotten you a 75% success rate.

In 16+ months of slicing I have mesed up on one weapon using clamps and that was due to lag. If he got 3 out of 6 it sounds like he was playing the guessing game.

In my time as smuggler I have only messed up 2 times. Once I just plum cut the wrong wire and the second time I attempted to slice some armor when someone was having a 5 on 5 free for all with launcher pistols right next to me. Anyways I was a new smuggler both of those times and havent had a failure in a long long time.. were talking like 7 months.
Most likely the person is a brand new smuggler or something and just cut the wrong wire three times. Your best bet is to get a smuggler you know and trust. At least the weapon doesnt get distroyed and such... its just not as good as it can be. You never know though some people just dont know what they are doing /shrug

Never go to a Smuggler that's spamming "slicing for 5k" in Theed or Coronet. Half the time they don't know what they're doing.
Usually the best Smugglers you can find are the ones you do a search for (through CTRL + P). Sometimes they'll have "Master Smuggler" up, but sometimes they'll have another Smuggler title up in hopes of getting less tell floods from people wanting slices. If they're nearby, just do a /examine on them to see if they have a badge that says "...has mastered the Smuggler profession".

Like me, I usually leave my title up as "Rouge", for if I put up "Master Smuggler", I get /tell floods from people wanting slices. I also do this because I hate slicing... I'm tired of it being the only use for Smugglers. I'll usually slice if someone asks me, though.
But anyway... that's off the subject. It sounds like your Smuggler was guessing it all, like others have said. Getting only half of those slices correctly is just wrong. I could understand one, but not that many.
Next time you get a slice, make sure the Smuggler is using clamps. If he looks like a newbie, ask him how long he's been a Smuggler (I don't know how many Smugglers I've run into who didn't even know how to use clamps). Or if he shows little interest in your slicing (like saying "yeah... alright, sure..." or something like that), try to find someone else. If a Smuggler shows little interest in the slicing, then most likely he'll do a half-assed job and not even read what the clamps say.

He really should've appologized, though. And given you some of the money back. Heck, when I screw up a slice, I feel so bad that I'll either cut the price down, give them some money back, or (if it's a small order) give it to them for free.
I've even been known to give them a new weapon if I have it and it's a lower-level weapon (and if it's cheap).

Oh man, that's just brutal!
Can't add anymore than what's been said. Clamps don't fail - the person reading the clamp data may fail (only once have i used a clamp and still cut the wrong wire). But yeah, he wasn't using clamps.
I've had people in the past ask me to actually put up my Master Smuggler title before slicing just to make sure I was still legit and I didn't take offense to it.
Hope you have better luck in the future.
Cheers

Molecular clams NEVER Fail, they grant 100pct success.
Thefailure numbers indicate he was guessing or an EBAYED smuggler who has no clue

Okay, first, I have to ask, did you get the failed slice weapons back?
And second, I have only ever failed ONE slice using a clamp, and it was due to my own stupidity AND I paid the customer in full for the cost of his weapon.
My guess is you somehow got hosed.

If you're a good weaponsmith, usually you will know and be friends with other smiths on the server. If you contact them you can get a smuggler contact who they trust. Usually it is best to find them.
