Thread: My experience with concussion shot
However, i looked at the new concussion shot and the rest of the smuggler specials and decided i needed to adapt my template as I am NOT going to drop smuggler!!
My template pre pub 19 was Master Smuggler/Master Commando and Pistols 4404, a template which i have enjoyed!. With the new concussion shot, I quickly realised that I would need to adapt my template to fit the fix. So, I promptly dropped Pistols to pistol xxx4 (i will drop it entirely when i have enough FS to get all six branches) and instead, used my remaining skill points to quickly grind up Medic xx4x which is the healing efficiency Branch. This template, allows me the mezz from Smuggler and the damage from commando. However, dropping those pistol trees means that I now do approx. 25% less damage. But this new template utilises the concussion shot, as i can now root/daze, heal me back up and get back in the fight.
With this new template, I did what you did, and headed str8 out to dathomir to find some nightsisters. The first NPC i found was a nightsister slave. this dude i wiped out relatively quickly, I then started to attack a Nighsister dragoness (level 79 or 80), however, I had me good ol' flamer out.. AoE look out. Couple this with the fact that (due to a toolbar reshuffle) I lobbed a Proton nade with radius of 30 at the unsuspecting nightsister instead of healing myself. This of course, roused the attention of TWO more nightsister dragoons and a Gaping Spider.
I was not purturbed, as this was a good test of the new specials and my new template, I proceeded to fight, dazeing and rooting all, then pulling back to get the inevitable 'one that got away'. The end result was a LONG fight, that ended in my death, but I did however, manage to take out one of the nightsisters. SO, 4 high level mobs Vs. smuggler/commando with heals worked out very well indeed i feel. And of course, at any point, I still had the option to root/FD and runaway!
The moral of the storage is:
Adapt or die (or winge)!
I've said it before and I'll say it again....
Concussion Shot is now the absolute ultimate getaway move in the game. It doesn't get any more Smugglery than that.
It also works wonderfully on any stray adds you might pick up.
It's like saying "Freeze, mister... I'll deal with you in a minute."
I like it. No, I can't solo some of the stuff I used to, like krayts, but I can seriously control any extra aggro that comes along. I had a canyon krayt locked down last night to where he couldn't do anything at all while me and a fellow guildie killed another one. No moving, no melee attacks, and none of the AOE ranged stuff that krayts are famous for. Granted, it's now harder to actually kill a krayt than it was before, but if I don't want something to attack me, that thing ain't gonna get the chance.
I may be in the minority, but I absolutely love the new Concussion Shot. It ranks right up there with Last Ditch as a truly Smuggler-type maneuver.

Maybe we 'shouldnt' have to, but, IF it changes again, until then, you have to utilise what you've got available. Personally, i think this game would suck after two years playing if the game didnt constantly change and adapt to the majorities request (within the boundaries of the devs constraints). Maybe the new concussion shot etc. arent to everyone liking, we got used to the CU and now i personally love the CU, we'll get used to these new specials. And it always weeds out the worst from the best smugglers
just my two pennies worth mate
You don't. I realize that the second poster did, but I haven't. You need to "adapt and change" your strategy/technique/play-style.

I agree with you mate. Concussion shot previously had its uses, but against anything with a ranged attack, it was next to useless. Granted it helped you get away sometimes, but when the time comes to run, I often dont have a great deal of health left, so they often still got me whilst i was legging it,.. they couldnt move before, but they could still shoot

Yes your right, but in this instance, with my template and my playing style, i felt that the best way to adapt, was to slightly adjust my template!

Im interested what you did to:
Change stratedy?
Change technique?
Change playstyle?
That or get some medic in your template so those time outs are more effective and less costly.

now do that same thing with a group... run through the cave down to Min... run around and hit the elders and the sentinels (why elders are so weak now who knows)... play CROWD control for the group so the damage dealers have only one or two target to slice through at a time.

That is part of my point outside of a group i dont stand a chance and as someone who plays 80% of the game solo this effects me alot, and the idea of having to change my template to fight something below my level isnt what im looking for.

Ilike concussion shot but still believe Smuggler needs a root. Last night hunting several different types of mobs I had lots of problems. Concussion seems to hold most of the time but several times the mobs just broke the mez and started attacking before the timer was up which makes it kinda dangerous of a shot. On top of it my stopping shot wasn't landing worth adarn last night. On one mob alone it landed once out of 5 times. Luckily I have a good snare and that along with the now and then KD was saving my butt. Then of course there was the annoying retreat bug and that was that.
