Thread: Why I support the NEW LOOT-SLICE system :)

Excellent point. Any Smuggler worth a darn should have his share of "connections" already established and in place. Doesn't anybody actually get into their character any more? ![]()
"Psst, hey, I found this trigger thinga-ma-jig, and I hear you're the man to see about getting it sliced into my weapon."
"Oh yeah? Let me see that... Yeah, I can do it... And a real nice job of it too... This will be one of the fastestguns in the Galaxy...I'll do it, on one condition..."
"What's that?"
"You find me one of these thinga-ma-jigs for myself as payment."

I'm going to be brutally honest. I don't like the idea of having to go somewhere like the Death Watch Bunker or some other high level place where to stand a chance you have to go with a group. I know, this is supposed to be a group game, but the whole idea here brings a torrent of potential griefing and in my opinion makes things far too difficult. You get one person in the group that grabs all the loot with a loot macro or whatever and then puts it on a vendor for an outrageous price without ever asking if anyone has need of it.
I think the best solution really is to make the looted parts come from the Smuggler missions along with spices and whatever else there is that we'll be getting with the missions. As I said, this would stop the loot camping and potential griefing before it starts. I think this is the best solution. I would prefer that places such as the Death Watch Bunker and Avatar Station are places that someone would go for a new weapon, not a part to make that weapon actually worth carrying.

Too true. The fact is, you can't go with friends all the time so you go to Endor and find a group there, but then you find out they are, in every sense of the term, loot whores. Not trying tobe one myself, I'll probably end up having to buy it from him for more than I usually charge for slicing. While this could be good for the new slicing system, smugglers had better be the only ones who can loot this stuff, in some way, be it a RE-style system or a profession check of some sort, though I'm not sure how the latter could be done.

Don't hunt much? lotto, loot-master, and other options make the macro thing not a problem.

So the answer is simple... Don't go. Get other people to go for you.
Or, if you have a customer that wants that top level slice, have him supply the component for you.
If you don't like these options, then I guess you won't be doing much top-end slicing....
There *are* no Smuggler missions. There is *no* timeline when these Smuggler missions will go in, and they are nothing more than concepts and ideas that have been talked about. So loot drops become the next place for these items.
I really hope our own community doesn't get this nerfed.
What people aren't understanding is that this system makes slicing RISKY, and NOT NORMAL.
Slices on weapons will be rarer than we have ever seen them...is that so bad? I'd much rather have this instead of every single person having their weapon sliced (which makes sliced items the norm.)
High end loots SHOULD have great slices. If you don't want to go out and get them, you don't have to, just wait for someone that has one ask you to slice his weapon.
If you want to go out and have a few stashed away, more power to you. I don't forsee the need to have crates of high-end slicing materials, because I don't WANT to be able to have crates and crates of them. I WANT them to be rare. I WANT them to be hard to get.
Shame on those of you that don't want this to happen, just because you want convenience over risk. You sound like another profession we've come to loathe...

Um, that's why you don't get into a group unless it's on a lottery loot option.

I am SO glad that there are other Smugglers in this community that feel this way. I was beginning to think I was the only one.
This will give my character a *reason* to go out to places and find these components. I'll be getting out more, travelling to other planets, joining combat groups, doing missions, etc....
Sounds great. Let's do it.

I agree, if you can't go then get other perople go for you....but......a couple of points1. If we groups with folsk what is to stop them from keeping all the items they loot then charging us for them?2. Do you honestly think they are going to let us charge them for slicing weapons that they went out and got the high end piece for?3. We are going to lose even more business than we have now.....and it is rare at best....they are going to turn their alts into Smugglers and slice it themselves or get their guildies to do it for free. Solo or non-guilded players are going to get the royal shaft on getting those high end pieces and slices.I am not real keen on the idea of loot drops....they are going to flood the trade boards and AFK selllers at Starports selling these thing for millions. The large combat/Jedi guilds are going to make a fortune off this idea.
1. There are loot options to prevent people from grabbing up every item. You agree ahead of time when you get into a group what loot is going to who. You group with people that you've interacted with before, and have some level of trust if it's their time to get a loot item and it's a slicing component.
2. If someone comes to me wanting me to slice an item and has the component, I'm still going to charge them. Why? Because without me, they don't get their item sliced. And if they don't like it, they're more than welcome to find another Smuggler to slice for them.
3. The only reason our business has been rare recently is because slicing is currently *broken*. Before slicing was broken, I had plenty of customers. And I expect to have them all back when the new system goes in. There was the ability for guilds to have their own Smugglers slice everything for free since this game went live. That didn't stop the slicing business for independent Smugglers.
