To quote DogWelder:

"You need 5K experience to advance to Slicing I, and you get 250 XP per success at slicing containers."

That works out to 20 successful container slices. Of course finding them and actually succeding is the challenge...

A way to make yourself more successful is to buy a set of 10 or 20 FAN's from a higher slicer. With these, you'll succeed about 80% of the time vs the 50/50 chance you take without anything but your knife.

I am a noob "novice smuggler" haveing a very hard time getting the containers for the first tier of slicing. I managed to save 4 containers I have found until the point i hit novice smuggler 2 of which i managed to slice and open, the other 2 failed. I have been offering free slicing service and enev offer to pay for locked containers for 2 days and i have managed to asmss a total of 500 exp. So my question is:

#1: What is the easiest way to find these containers?

#2: Is there a system to follow when slicing so i dont fail?

#3: Will I ever get the 5000 exp??? =(

Thanks for your help

I disagree with it being easier to buy them. I did my share of shouting to open/buy containers and never got a tell. So I went outside Tyrene and killed mudglumps for two days and got all the ones I needed myself.

I stood in between the star port and cantina in moenia for a night. I suggested the same thing to an up-and-coming who asked me for advice... he got slice II at the same location in just a day.

At first I was a bit shy about spamming for containers, but now I've found it was a good way to get my name out there and build up a certain level of trust with a growing client base.

The fastest way i found was to find a less popuatled town (usualy means no compitition) I went to mos espnaon tatoonie for mine. And one that has a realatively easy gang mob spawn in or near town kill the gang mobs ( they drop locked containers) while advertising youll open locked containers when you head to the cantina ask around.

1. Advertise on your server baord your buying locked containers for 1.5-2k each.

2. Go to a crowded city and spam you will open locked containers and pay them 500cr if you fail. Also spam that you are buying locked containers for 1.5k each.

I got over 100 in one day this way, cost me quite a bit of money but I had slice 2 almost instantly.

Slice 1 sucks horribly... but I bet the only other time you will be as happy as you will be when you complete it is when someone finally trains you to master.

I have tried to kill npc's in all the suggested places, but since the last patch on July 30 I have not gotten one container.

I have killed a lot of meatlumps. I really wish it wasnt as rare of a drop or we could get slicing xp from another source.

Guess I will have to pan handle my way into getting some containers.

In answer to #2: Buy clamps from someone who has slicing IV so that you dont fail and waste a locked container. Clamps are cheaper than locked containers these days by far.

What I did, and had great success with, was I would walk around busy cities and look for groups of people. Then i would stand next to them and /whisper "Psst... buying locking containers for 700 credits."

Then I would /whistle. Your character willwhistle innocently, like "I'm just a regular guy out for a stroll... do do doo... psst hey buddy wanna buy a watch?" I've found people who would sell me 11 or 12 at a time! Of course, you can set your own price, but I figured 700 was a good number to bring in interest.

Another good tactic is to single out people. Macro this: "Psst... %TT, you got any locked containers for sale? No questions asked." The %TT replaces itself with whoever you have targeted, so it personalizes the message. Hard to ignore someone when they use your name.

These above tactics worked very well for me. I think people really appreciated the RP aspect as well.
