Thread: New slicing v. Old slicing

Part of the problem here is that people are making their case on one side or the other of this issue based on a game that we played three months ago. For better or worse, this is a new game. We've already been adapting to this new game as far as combat goes... now we have to adapt to new slicing.

Clearly, the days of loading a pack up with slicing tools and kits are gone. No more camping in Coro, spamming slices for sale. No more bulk slicing jobs -- spending a half-hour slicing crates of weapons only to have the WS trash 70% of them. hmm... come to think of it, this starts sounding better.

lvl 1-2 slices? sure... those'll be done on the fly for some quick cash. Anything more than that? This is a different game. Think in terms of a Firespray. These'll be auctioned, by appointment only. And they'll cost. Oh, how they'll cost.

Worried that people won't pay? Don't. People are looking for any edge they can get and they'll pay for it. If they won't pay today, they'll pay after they get pwned by someone with a sliced weapon.

We can be happy, content, blase', disappointed, angry, or totally p!ssed off about this, but the fact remains that we're playing a new game now.

but it still doesn't solve the issue of an after slicing risk, for the person using an illegal piece of equipment.

Actualy you will need a bunch of stuff for slicing. To apply a lvl 4 Slice, if i saw that correctly, you need to slice the item 4 times. Which bumps up the number of slices for a full armor suit to around 32 slices. Lets say, up to Level 2 you dont need components for the slice, that leaves still 16 items in your inventory.. counted against 1 crate Clamps, 1 Crate AUK and 2 Laser Precision Knives.

They problem will be there as long they dont change the code in the Crackdown/Contraband Scan. As you know, rightnow an Imp, even a low Corporal can better smuggle as a Master Smuggler.

1) There's never been a consequence for carrying sliced items. We'd like there to be one, but since we're not actually losing it (2 says in TC doesn't count as having it), I personally don't have a huge issue with it. I'd rather it be there, but I'm not willing to throw out the whole system because of it's absence.

2) I'm only going to do lvl 4 slices by appointment. Remember, these are supposed to be rare. How rare? We won't know until a month or so into the system. I expect that we'll be putting lvl 4 slices on elite, ADK weapons. Why? b/c it isn't beyond imagination that these slices could cost millions.

Millions?? Is he mad???

Not really. Jellyfish hologram that is looted on the Avatar, for example. Worthless. Stupid little decoration that has no use what-so-ever. However, it is rare and sells for 4 million in the trade forums. So... if a silly decoration is worth 4 mil, a slice that perminently increases the damage on an elite weapon is worth...... I hope you get the picture.

Now, I'm not crazy enough to think that people will go for that two days after live. They've been spoiled by 5k, 35% increases. New game. New slices. 10% chance to hit for double dammage? We can come to an agreement.

btw, I will personally hunt down and pimoslap the first punk I see selling a lvl 4 slice for 25k.

Sure, the guy that sold the lvl 4 components to your customer will make millions. You? Heh. If you want any meaningful amount of money, he'll find some other smuggler that works cheaper. Unlike a WS/AS who has a solid foundation of skill and experimentation points/equipment to differentiate him/her from his competition, you've got jack that will define you from any other slicemonkey.

Now, if something is implemented that limits component loot to smugglers (in MagSeals or something), then fine. Although I still think it's a cop-out, I can better live with that. But this system hands all cash to the Template of the Week loot-camper, not the slicer.

Well assuming that you will be able to get your Handson the Lvl 4 Components. I find it kinda sad that with this System a large base of our fellow Smugglers will be left out in Woods, because they dont have the resources to get those components.
Which basicly negates the meaning of the Master Smuggler box, because we can no longer utilize our skills.

I will keep an eye on the prices and availability of the components.. and if i see that its going downthe sink for most of us... you willhave a nasty surprise if you come to pimpslap me

Personally, I intend to make it well known that I'm interested in buying these. I'll pay 2-3 million for them if I can sell the slice for 4-5 mil. Of course, the first time someone asks me if I'm interested it buying this "junk" they haven't seen before, I'll sigh and let them rob me of the 200k I'll offer.

Sure no more camping Coro, now we have to camp the DWB...and you are also neglecting to note, people won't be looking for the master smuggler anymore, but the smuggler who's camped the right loot spots. I never had to camp Coro except when I was grinding slices way back in July of 2003, I believe it was...it's so long....no ever since I mastered all I had to do is put up the title and make myself searchable and people would find you, which made being a smuggler fun because people sought you out, not because you had the best loot, but because you were a master smuggler. I loved it when people ask, are you a Master Smuggler? Now it will be, do you have the uber loot?

The one thing about the current system is it undervalues the title master, and while I respect you wanting to just adapt and take whatever the devs give you that's great, but some of us want a real revamp, not some made up at the last moment Plan B and that the title Master Smuggler actually mean something.

I'm not saying I dislike the entire system, though, just certain significant parts of it, and I think it is worth trying to get them to change them. For example, I don't think it would be too much to ask for, or too hard to do, them to make these high end slicing components obtainable from smuggling missions, missions that are level gated (i.e. Slicing 1 missions, Slicing 2 missions,...,Master Smuggler missions). And what's more, it would give them a couple weeks to work on those new components since they could push the high end slicing components back to come in with the new smuggling missions. It's going to take a couple weeks to figure the new system out anyways, so holding off putting the high end slicing components into the game until later won't be that unbearable.

Actually, I like the suggestions in GM's thread about having slicing available at all levels and the items enable only the collest of slices. With any luck, we'll see something like that or your level suggestions in the near future. For now, ya kinda gotta play the cards you're dealt.

I actually like the idea about getting the components from MagSeal containers that have to be sliced open. At least then there would actually be a use for them.
