UPDATE: It seems only the first knife in a crate is working as it should. The fix we hoped to have, is apparently incomplete. I will be trying to get word from the developers ASAP. They told me they were going to bring the issue up in their next meeting... as they accidently passed over the issue in the previous one. I don't know when the next meeting is.
Fellow Smugglers,
With the publish 9 patch notes, there was a rather disturbing change.
Profession: Smuggler
You will no longer be able to slice an item by using a tool in a crate. You will have to remove it from the crate first.
However, it apparently means that the problems we had with laser knife charges has been fixed, according to testing done by Baehoo.
You can find his results here.
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=smuggler&message.id=100245
I will continue to pester the devs to clarify these patch notes, but I feel this is convincing that the change is not to ALL crates, but to the laser knife crates specifically.
So instead of cries of outrage, perhaps we should try rejoicing
It's a fix that's been needed for a LONG time!

After further testing -
When using a crate that has NOT been used prior to today:
I examine the crate and find it has 25 items in it, and under charges it says 10.
Through the slicing of the first 5 weapons, and examining the crate after EVERY use of the PLK i am finding that the number of items stays the same, while the number of charges goes down correctly, and once the charges hits 0, it takes away an item from the crate.
however,
After that first knife poofs, then upon examining the crate you see:
number of items: 24
number of uses: 1
and from there on out, it is like it always was. with 1 use per knife.
damn.

By "not used prior to today" i meant that has not been used yet today =P
It doesnt need to be a crate of 25 items, but rather a crate of(#) items that you did not use yet today. Otherwise you could have already used some of the 10 uses or poofed that first knife all together.

ok tested some more.. at first i left my PLK's in my non wearbale container ( for tidyness) this pulled 1 PLK for every "cut"
half way thru the slicing i moved them to the main Inv and still 1 PLK per cut
I started a new slice and now im getting 5 full slices per PLK.. so it looks a little buggy still and we have to be disorganised a little

Well...they tried...
Ok everyone...back to the gnashing of teeth...and praying that the "fix" doesn't actually start working as noted in the patch notes...

Hehe, I'm having to reinstall my client as well... long story...
So the first knife worked correctly, the others gave the finger? Odd...
Maybe a new crate is required for all knives to work that way?
/emote looks for ray of hope.

So close...
Ah well,
I've been pulling one from the crate and letting it sit in my inventory anyway and will continue to do so- This is a habit I picked up from being a medic- I have to have my stims out of the crate to be used while I am fighting so i just carried that behavior over to slicing.
THis is a little off subject but-
MAN, you guys should really read the patch discussion thread- people are ANGRY about this weapon/armor swap thing.
How do you think they will react to contrabrand being treated like it's contrabrand.

Ill make my mind up in a min
Ok more testing
From the main Inv
1st cut used 1 PLK charge
2nd cut used 1 PLK (whole)
next item
1st cut used 1 PLK (whole)
2nd cut used 1 PLK (whole)
doesnt look like this is a complete fix

actnjcksn wrote:If the patch notes were supposed to convey the message that the PLK crate problem has been fixed, then they need to work on how they word things. When I read the patch notes it in no way says that you can now autopull your PLK's from crates and have them work correctly.
Maybe it was written by the same person who came up with the "fence" and "fixer" titles.

well getting in game anytime soon, and seeing anything but a blue sky with stars is looking pretty bleak.
Anyone else that can make up a crate of PLKs (run a NEW crate in your factory) please do and post results.

If it's just knives I have no problem with that. If it's ALL of our tools...yuck. Anyway...good fix. Cool on the devs!
