I really like what I have read for the smuggler revamp, and ITS ABOUT TIME. I have quit smuggler like three times, was one of the first on Gorath and have always wanted to go back since, BUT it's been boring and nothing is there for us.
Our profession is sad and broken and boring.
Hopefully after the JTL expansion and with the promising post by TH SMuggler will be right where it should be in SWG.
Back to the point. IF we are to be hunted by BH and BH are supposed to also be able to kill JEDI we need some good combat moves to make us at least competitive. Now I dont think we should have UBER combat because that is not what Smuggler is about. We use the biggest muscle of all our BRAINS and alot of times our mouths to get out of the situations. We need moves like QUICK DRAW where it literally STUNS the BH while we SMOKE SCREEEN or GETAWAY to our bikes/ships. The thrill of the chase is just that THRILLING and we should be able to take on pretty much everyone and live to talk about it.
Smugglers are not Heroes, we are low down dirty fighting, out for blood or money, get rich and have me some women kinda persons. We love life and it isnt any fun unless its dangerous and challenging.
Just some observations, but I am really pulling for some SMART COMBAT moves in the revamp. Think Brains not Brawn on our part.

Dont forget that the BH coming after us wont only be the MBH. It seems logical that the amout of the Bounty on our head would scale according to the level of criminal activity. If its just some cheap spice smuggling, the Bounty would be pretty low. If its getting caught smuggling lots of sliced weapons and top-end Drugs, then it owuld be more. Hopefully this will lead to natural balancing. If you are a low-level Smuggler (or only participate in low level activities), you get low-level Bounties on you. These low level bounties get picked up by low level BH since higher BH have access to higher paying Bounties.

We need skills- but not combat skills. You must remember that a Master smuggler still has enough SP to Master TWO other pure combat professions. To give us more combat skills would be an inbalance. We need evasion skills.
A smuggler on their own should NOT be able to handle a BH but they shouldn't be easy to kill because of their ability to escape.
The smuggler should be able to baffle- confuse- delay and talk their way out of most of their troubles.
A smuggler with onepure combat professionmight havetrouble with a BH.
Amaster smuggler/master commando should be able to go toe to toe with a BH.
Atriple master: TKA/Smuggler/Pistoleer should be able tomake a BH think twice about taking that bounty.
An idea I had as far as helping the smuggler escape was a disruption charge unit.
This is a device that, once discharged, would send a pulse that would disable all ranged weapons for a 20 second time period (including the smugglers) for a 30m radius.
You could see where this ONE item would render a BH almost weaponless- since all their weapons are ranged really- giving the smuggler a chance to get away or use those Unarmed skills to gain an upperhand OR a triple master just might end the battle right there.

Good post.
We need skills, but I do not believe we need combat skills to compete with a BH. Smugglers are sapose to be good at getting out of sticky situations, not blast their way out.

Why should smugglers any additional skills just because we will be hunted by BHs. If I read GMs post then anyone using spice or sliced items will generate visibility (i.e. become a BH target). This means that joe blow artisan that has a sliced CDEF and maybe uses the occasional spice to save his butt can get a bounty on him. By your reasoning then he should also be beefed up...
Dont get me wrong. I think we as smugglers deserve a little more offensive/deffensive abilities but not just because we will be tracked by BHs.

Because we are THE Smugglers.
Seriously though:
I was thinking along the lines that we are Smugglers and that all the stuff in DF tree needs to be replaces or revamped as well. Especially if we are going to be getting tracked by BHs. Smuggling is our business it's what we do, we should have the skills/know how to do it the best way we can.

Because we are smugglers- Escaping trouble is what we do.
BHs should have the skills to incap people because that is what they do.
Artisans with CDEFs need to stay away from illegal goods 'lest they find themselves in a mess they can't handle. I say that as an artisan who's been in over his head MANY a time so I know what I'm talking about.

You can't base what combat skills Smuggler should have based on what other professions a person may choose to do. Many combat professions leave you enough skill points to master another and get a number of boxes in a 3rd. To do that is to cripple people who choose to be a master smuggler and also master a crafting or entertainer profession instead of another combat prof.
However, I do agree that any skills we do get should be evasion/defensive skills opposed to offensive. Smugglers are thought of as sneaky, underhanded, scoundrels (as seen in the Dirty Fighting line). We should have to use trickery and deceit to survive, rather than having to stand toe-to-toe and fight it out.

Haha I loved to see a bounty hunter take on me. I really would
I think I've been taken out 3 times by a bounty hunter since I started this game in january. The first time I was a month into the game and didn't PvP, I was overt though and getting faction when I got jumped by an overt BH. I jumped on my bike and ran like the smuggler I was. He tracked me down in the end and killed me (I had yet to discover the beauty of foods and moun)
After that the few bounty hunters that have killed me have caught me napping or ganked me with2 or3 other rebels who wore my mind down enough so that after I'd killed them the bounty hunter finished me off with eye shot.
I once got a bounty put on my head when I killed an overt rebel.A bounty hunter swore he would track me down for the overt I had just killed. I never saw or header from either again.

Although I'm not a Smuggler, I would think that combat shouldn't be boosted to high for Smugglers, but evasion should be...
Smugglers typically (at least from what I've seen in movies and such) prefer to run rather then fight...
Thus...Bounty Hunters should have the combat edge, but Smugglers should have better defenses and much better odds at evading and getting away...including such bonuses as;
- Vehicle speed bonus (How fast can you make the Parsec Run?)
- Dodge (He's a Slippery one he is)
- Some sort of temporary radar block (Jam their radar)
- And definitely some seriously Dirty Fighting tactics
- Heck...I'd even like to see Smugglers be able to fake their Alliance status...Make them be able to appear as Rebels when they are Imps or vice versa...
They should have the tricks and abilities to get away more then any other profession...Let Bounty Hunters track them down, but the question would be, once they find them, can they hang on to them...
Anyway...those are just some of the ideas I think of when I think of smugglers...

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm talking about- Really it comes down to how you spend your SP. If you spend your SP on crafting and entertainment skills then you can't expect to handle someone who spends ALL their SP on combat skills.
Moves like- Last Ditch can be used as a kick off to a great offense if you have skills in any of the other combat profs- or as a great way to distract- or disinterest someone if you only have Smuggler skills.
You should know all about that as a Musician/Heavy Swordsman, eh?

I agree with more of an evasion skill set. Or a chance to dump shipment or brib our way out of it.
I think bounties should only be on the smuggler not one who uses the smuggled goods, let local law enforcement worry about that.
