If so, how's it working out?

I ran that template for a while.... seems to work just fine.

Decent crowd control with decent damage. And as a bonus, you can kill those pesky Jedi.

Complain that we have to take an unarmd line and get nothing to do with unarmed in our profession then get given something unarmed in our profession thats totally useless

I recently respeced out of Master Smuggler/Master BH/rest in pistols for a new template that I think I am going to stick with. It was a solid template for pvp/pve so I am sure it will work just fine for you. Before the CU I was a pretty standard template of master smuggler/master pistoleer/some medic. My latest template is Master Smuggler/ Master Combat Medic/rest in pistols. The healing is a nice benefit but what I really enjoy out of this template is setting my target on fire, giving them a disease, and then topping it off with some poison before concussion/stopping shot (currently Concussion until that gets fixed) then trotting off laughing as the fire and poison ticks away at them.

The combination ofMCM heals along with single use stim Ds ensure I can pretty much survive quite some time which is a great benefit as well

Still, my favorite aspect is settingthem on fire, because as the Dead Milkmen song goes, "If you love somebody why not set them on fire?"

I'm a Master Smuggler/Master BH/FS. That's right, found that gettin' Master Smuggler/Master BH and only it's pre-reqs gives you exactly 24 points left over, enough to get the required FS skill trees to get Padawan. (does that mean I'll hunt myself?)

So far it gives me the ability to use Recon and Assault armor, making it so I can choose the armor that I need at the time. I can also use any weapon for Smuggler and BH...and slice it, heh. True that you lose out on some of the weapon accuracy and speed, as well as defenses...but the FS trees can take care of that. I'mplanning climbing theRanged Accuracy, Ramged Speed, Ranged Defense, Melee Defense, Luck, and Vehicle Control for fun, heh. Those bonuses will work with any weapon I pull out, so that's a good thing.

Against Jedi I put on my Adv. Ubese armor and wear my PSG, which gives me energy resist over 9k, and for them melee fights I put on my Adv. Composite. With all the crowd control I do as a Smuggler I can normally keep the enemies at bay, so I normally wear the Ubese armor.

So, that's my point on this one.

Respecced a character out of Master Pistoleer/Master CM to MS/MBH because that character is at some point designed to become a Jedi. MBH allows me to get 900k in Carbines, 900k in Rifles and then because of Smuggler I can get to 1.5 million in Pistols XP. That way each trip to the village is a 200k increase in my banked FS XP.

My other smuggler (this one) is a MS/Master Commando. Deuterium Toss is nice, but when I set someone on fire, I do it right.

PSGs don't work against Jedi. It's for ranged energy attacks only. You can tell when a PSG is working because its has a green effect around your character when you get hit. Next time you fight jedi watch and you'll see that this doesn't happen.

it makes no sense that we are given unarmed mods when not a single box in the smuggler tree uses unarmed experience.

I feel like that when I get rooted by a Jedi... Then they get hit with the Katarn Knucks and I activate CoB.

I kinda like the prereq from a RP standpoint. I can see the point that not all smugglers are bar brawler types though.

To the topic:

I wasn't a big fan of the BH/Smuggler/Pistoleer template... Take the speed line and you get good dps, but you aren't gonna be able to root after CS goes into a mez and having to stay almost in range of Saber Throw is not a good feeling whilst using pistols. For group usage it wasn't bad at all for PvP or PvE.

I didn't mind BH/Smugg with novice carbineer for the added range and the proton carb... hit a bit harder and was fun for a change but still wasn't my thing.

Ahh, true. It'll still work if you root them and run out of thier saber toss range and they break out that rifle, heh.
