Is it ok to keep the persons equipment (this pertains to slicing) if they refuse to pay? And this is assuming that the player agreed to your pricing structure before he handed over the equipment.

For instance...

If someone asks you to slice something and you tell him that it's 3k per slice and he says Ok, then after you slice it he changes his mind, is it ok to tell him that he's not getting his stuff back until he pays for it?

If so, can you get in trouble for this kind of thing?

So long as you were quite clear of the consequences previous to the actual trade, I'd say enjoy your new equipment.

If not, I'd give it back. To do that you need to firmly establish the consequences of what happens if they don't pay up.

I've always operated under the impression that it is kosher to keep unpaid for merchandise.

I usually try and make sure my pricing structure is understood (Rate per % of improvement), but every now and again some idiot thinks I'm offering it at a flat rate per slice and goes "OMG, THAT'S TOO EXPENSIVE."

Relating my own slicing experience, someone gave me a whole set of Ubese to slice and didn't have the money. He then asked me how much for the boots and the helmet (he's in his whities at this point). I quote him the bill for just those and he pays it and I give those pieces to him. Then I tell him that I'll hold onto his armor for the remainder of the night and he can come back at any point to claim it. He'd have to run about 20 missions to do it.

Well, about 15 minutes later, he comes back with the money, still in his whities, and gives me a sob story about how he guesses he can't visit the local ID and pays me the money and I give him the armor.

I honestly don't believe you can get in trouble for witholding product, when you haven't been paid.

Consequences? So you can get in trouble for this?

Then what are we suppose to do if the customer doesn't pay and you already sliced it?

What (s)he means is, you should make sure the customers know you will keep the armor if they don't pay up. If you made sure they knew what would happen if they didn't pay, go ahead and keep it. Otherwise, (s)he says you should return it.

Though I would find it insulting if a vendor had to tell me what happened if I didn't pay. That'd be a very broad generalization. You'd think it'd be assumed.

But do you have to inform the customer of the consequences before or after slicing the items for them? This is what I'm confused about. I've never seen a smuggler use a "Terms and Conditions" agreement before, lol.

It should be a given, but I've known smugglers (and others) who have a macro'd /tell with basic terms, or have full terms in terms in their bio and say "read my bio", to be on the safe side.

Ive never had to deal with this before....but somtimes you get a crazy vibe off some of these folks so I lay it all out for em " flat rate per item, you dont pay I dont give them back. if they have a hard time comprehending that,I dont do the deal.....and screenshots anytime i get a bad vibe from a customer i take a screen shot including chat box showing the explaination and that the trade was completed after the explaination.

I attempt to get the person to pay. If not, then I inform the player of my intentions and I walk to the nearest vendor and place the item up for sale. That usually gets me my money in short order. Either from the person who originally wanted the piece sliced, or by someone else who just got themselves a great deal.

You don't have to make them aware of the consequences before you trade. If you take your car to be fixed by a mechanic you ever hear him say to you

"I will undertake the work at x cost. Should you refuse to pay the car will remain mine until such time as you pay the balance in full together with interest at X% per day."

If you take the item and change the terms you're guilty but if he doesnt pay enjoy your new equipment.

I suggest you deal with it the way I do. In the event that the customer doesnt pay take the item to the nearest bazaar ( Having the customer follow you is even better ) and place the item for 6k ( only works if you charge less then 6k for a slice ) then say;

I've just placed your item on the bazaar for instant purchase at 6000 credits. I'll leave itto your decision what happens now but I suggest you make your mind up quickly. Its a very nice weapon and should sell reasonably soon at that price. But whatever your decision don't come to me for any slicing again"

Then walk away

If I take my stuff to a dry cleaners, and don't pay them, I don't expect to get my stuff back.

If I don't pay for my gas, I don't expect to not get in trouble.

Therefore, if I don't pay someone in-game for their services, I don't expect to receive those services. If you are in question about whether you can afford a slicers services, make sure you ask them beforehand. Otherwise, once the service has been rendered, you will be expected to pay.

I've never had anyone flat out refuse to pay me, but my prices (at slicing IV, not master yet) are quite reasonable. I did have one kid (who later admitted to being in 4th grade) unable to afford the full 2k for his LVA slice. He gave me something like 1692credits and asked if that was enough...for the sake of getting back to what I was doing, I said yes. He then asked if I'd slice something else for him. O_o I said no. He'd already evidenced he didn't have the cash. [sigh] He must have asked me in three different ways about three different items if I'd slice for free. =P

But other than that, no troubles yet. But you can bet when I do, I won't hand over gear unpaid for.

I havent , or herd of anyone telling the "Terms and Conditions" of the deal.

They should know what happens if you dont pay up. Its a given isnt it?

They won't do anything. Just tell the guy, pay up or I keep yer stuff. You've got a rep to protect. that's what keeps you honest, and why you need to stick to your guns. Or everyone's going to think you're an easy touch chump.
