Thread: Why the Negativity?

Seriously. The majority of the posts in the Smuggler forum for the past two years have revolved around ideas for the Smuggler Revamp, as well as cries for it to actually get accomplished. We finally get two In-Concept threads outlining some specific features that SOE hopes to implement. For the most part, these two threads incorporate some of the major ideas and requests which have appeared on the forums numerous times. There is even an indication that the concepts presented are not the entire Smuggler Revamp, just some of the bigger changes that are being worked on.
In spite of what should be good news (or at least a step in the right direction)for Smugglers, I have seen a tremedous amount of negative feedback on the forums by Smugglers (and former Smugglers) regarding these two announcements. Now, I realize that seeing something In-Concept does not guarantee it will make it "as written" into the game, and that it is way too early to start opening the champagne and planning the parade but COME ON! With such cynicism and negativity, is it any wonder that SOE is reluctant to address the Smuggler profession in the forums? This is truly becoming a "damned if you do and damned if you don't" situation for SOE.
I guess some people just can't be happy about anything.
P.S. Don't bother respondingwith "we've heard such announcements before" and other such cynicism. I am taking the announcements in the context that they were given, so while I don't believe we should go overboard with excitement, I also don't see why these announcements can't be received with a little more enthusiasm from some of you.

I haven't detected very much negativity at all.
Those of us that were the most negative, like me, seem to have embraced this announcement.
We are discussing the two obvious areas not addressed by Tiggs posts;
1. No player BHs and
2. No player to player smuggling.
I don't consider it negativity to continue to discuss these issues.
The small amount of negativity I've seen isn't coming from the majority of the Smuggler community so I have to say I don't understand what you're talking about.

Personally i never want to see player bounty hunters involved with us smugglers, there is nothing i hate more than forced pvp, its just isnt fun.

Badrunner,
In most of the proposed player BH systems I've read there would be NO forced PvP.
You would be quite aware of the 'deadbeat' level you had obtained and you'd simply lower it by taking less rewarding missions and completing them and not cheat your contracts to the point you get assigned to a BH term.
Other scenarios have only certain missions that risk being placed on the terms for failure.
Neither way are you forced into PvP unless YOU choose to go that far. I see no problem with these ideas.

If there is negativity perhaps its because one of the5 pivotal characters in SW is a Smuggler and one thing Smugglers cant yet do in SWG is smuggle or in anyway do anything that vaquley resembles Han Solo in the films excpet shoot a pistol and Smuggler players have been telling the devs that since Beta...

I think he's talking about SINCE the In Concept posts by Tiggs.
Actually I've seen a HUGE drop in negativity since that...and I'm one that has changed my tune.
It was real simple for SOE to get me off of complaining, all they had to do was start communicating. Amazing how that works.

Yeah, I can't remember the last time I've seen this place so positive. Of course, we may have to measure it on a more relative scale than others, but look around. People are impressed by those concept docs. Most of the suggestion threads you'll read are ways to expand on the foundation they've already set down. There are a couple honest concerns about them (e.g. smuggling for players), and given our history it is harder to get rid of the doubts about whether they'll ever turn the concept into a reality, but there's more optimism and goodwill in this forum than I've seen in a very long time.

I donot forsee ANY player BH's and P2P smuggling because both can be massivelyexploited and abused unless a heck of a lot of preventative codeing and tweekingis done.

I'm cautiously positive.
Once bitten, twice shy they say.
Smugglers have no undamaged skin left, it's all bitescars. So caution is, i feel, permissable.

I'm Very excited about the changes... I have not posted bc i have learned after a long time in this Profession to "believe it when I see it" No Kudos till it hits live. The Devs lost that priviledge when they lied to us about our last revamp.
Ohh im Happy

Thats why Im upset about the "new" concept posts by tiggs previous concepts put forth by greemmarine addressed that issue by giving a two tiered smuggler mission system. Dont like PVP? nobody makes you take the high difficulty missions. The curently proposed concepts remove that and simply leave us one opption.
There is a great varriety of smugglers out there, some crafters, some combat..some that LIKE PVP some that DONT, any revamp for us should relfect that varriety.

Actually I've been waiting for a certain someone to come here and stir the pot a little. Well, a certain couple of people.
Thankfully that has not happened, and to be honest, I haven't really seen too much negativity by the general population, especially the regulars.
I think there's still some skepticism and maybe even some cynicism (sp?), but that's to be expected here.
There's been a collective sigh of relief with how they're approaching this now, but we've been IC before. We're gonna be there for at least 3 months at best this time, so if anything I'm seeing a bit of caution in the community so that our hopes aren't dashed.
