I was reading this and found this very disturbing :

Encumbrance, the second functional characteristic of armor, will continue to have an impact. We have redefined how encumbrance works as we were not happy with the severe potential punishments that were possible by wearing armor. Rather than reducing both drain and regeneration stats, it will now only reduce the relevant drain stat. We have also added four new hindrance types that will be mitigated by various profession skills. These hindrances will not be able to be altered during the crafting process and will remain a fixed value on the armor to maintain an overall balance. This will enable us to envision what level of armor we see everyone wearing at a specific stage of their advancement. A player will take full set armor hindrances for wearing any piece of armor of a particular type and the highest hindrance stat will take precedence. We wanted to ensure people do not try and beat the system by mixing and matching high and low hindrance items, hence why we added the rule about the highest hindrance value determining your overall hindrance level. Encumbrance to the drain stat however will remain cumulative for the total amount of pieces you actually wear.

Is it my poor english skill or do i have to believe that other people than smugglers will have the ability to "slice" armors?

More generally speaking, i find it a bit strange to make a full feature on the new armors and their place in the CURB, and not to talk of their being sliced. Who has a non-sliced armor today?

Please, if that's my poor english comprehension, let me know what they meant because i still don't see.

I read it as not being something you do to the armour, but something that just happens when you're wearing the armour. Think of it as being like certifications, in a way ... anybody can use an armour, but some classes have the "extra" penalties reduced.

Yeah I read it that say Commando's would have reduced Enc on say Battle armor and say Scouts severely increased

I saw it as a way of basically moulding armour types to professions, which would then allow for a greater degree of system control

Well it does make sense to have a class style affect the armor you wear but what happens if your a tka and pistoleer, does the bonuses change when you have said weapon in hand? This would sux if you have say an armor onthat bonuses for pistol but neg's out if you switch to melee. /shrug

assuming that this armor requires overtness to wear (it would just be silly if it didn't) i wonder if composite and the other armors we see today will become the "neutral" set of armors?

Personally, I'd prefer it if Factional Armor didn't require you to go Overt, but made you Overt. In other words, we could equip the armor without visiting a Recruiter, but equiping(even just one piece) it sets us to Overt status automatically. Taking the armor off, would likewise, make us Covert. However, to avoid people using this to keep from dieing in PvP, taking off Factional Armor TEFs you, so that you remain a valid target in firefights.

This would allow for Covert Infiltrations of areas. And to keep base destructions balanced, simply keepan Overt timer on for using terminals. Meaning you have to be Overt for X amount of time before you can use a base's terminal, for defence or offence. That way, you don't have people run into bases, equip a Bicep or something, and hit a terminal.

Just an idea to think over, anyway.

Great idea Nick.

"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

on a related note, anyone else hoping tk m 's won't have to wear armor? like Jedi, they shouldn't really have to, IMO

Actually from how I read it I am not sure if its good for smuggler or bad for smuggler.

I am guessing if we slice a whole set of armor only one slice will stick. The worst?

If this is the case will we still have to slice armors one peice at a time, or will we slice armors as a unit?

If armor is slices as a unit. Will it be viewed as a single item in inventory, or will say chestplates be the slice?

I do not think your paranoid. Though I think the cert issue is not the big one. I think the big one will be will anyone use a non armorsmith smuggler to ever slice their armor? If armor becomes a unit slice. Its that much faster for a smith to do it. If its one peice at a time as usual. Then players will only be buying 35 percent slices from smiths. Especially if the worst slice is the one that sticks. Plus surprise surprise with the armor loopholes removed we already lose 2 sliceable items the gloves and the boots.
